Green coffee has become known thanks to special components - chlorogenic acid, which enters into its composition. It's the most powerful natural antioxidant known to mankind today. It should be noted that in a conventional coffee it too, but in smaller amounts. What makes this acid:
cleanses the skin, it helps get rid of acne.
normalize blood sugar.
increases efficiency and concentration.
burns body fat.
As the enforcement of its "fat-'abilities green coffee can reduce the level of insulin in the blood, and thus speed up the metabolism. When accelerating metabolic process of weight loss is particularly effective.

Oh dear. Yet another unwitting but great example of Berrteridge's Law (http://www.omgfacts.com/lists/13881/Does-this-article-violate-Betteridge-s-law-of-headlines-Learn-how-you-should-approach-the-articles-you-read-ab964-2).
(There are so many examples on PA!)
For anyone who can't be bothered to read the info in the link, invariably a headline with a question mark can be answered "No" simply because whoever wrote it probably knows the story is bull****, and doesn't actually have the sources and facts to back it up.
Could we on this forum try not to do this? It might be OK for the MSM, but aren't we at least trying to elevate ourselves above that?
(No doubt the next example somewhere on PA of thread doing this will be tomorrow.)

Yes, and that's precisely why I made my post about the coffee glut. To keep the price of coffee up, they have to keep some of the harvest of beans to roast off the market. But they still want to sell the whole harvest if they can, so articles like the link in the OP get written.

We have known for years what causes weight gain - refined sugars, stress and lack of exercise, so therefore in order to induce weight loss avoid refined sugars (all of them), learn stress beating therapies / techniques, and exercise at least twice a week. But apparently that is never good enough for people and all they want is a pill to fix their sorry lives.
One can even eat fat and meats excessively and still lose weight because without the refined sugars, you don't get huge spikes in sugar which causes your liver to start producing fats.
That said ...
There is some peer reviewed research behind green coffee bean extract and the effects of chlorogenic acid on weight loss, but it's not powerfully convincing ... yet - it seems to me more of fad that will pass; it likely works as an aid to good eating and exercise for weight loss. I work in the natural health product industry and am privy to tonnes of info and actual scientific research on most natural health supplements. Most things that claim "weight loss!" work at best as aides to lifestyle changes, but rarely ever work like "magic" as some imagine (or hope) it would. You just have to look at the track record for the bazillions of products that claimed to help you lose weight in the last 50 years. So far not one has been a great success.
BTW welcome to Avalon Bradoral!
UPDATE:
Abstracts of peer reviewed studies relating to chlorogenic acid or green coffee bean extracts are viewable here: http://www.aor.ca/products-page/advanced/_green-coffee-bean-extract/#abstracts_tab
