Vrillon, representative of the Ashtar Collective, was the name used by an
unidentified voice that was broadcast on Southern Television transmitters in the UK
for about five minutes, at 17.10 Saturday, November 26, 1977. The voice, which
was scrambled and accompanied by a serious buzz interrupted a broadcast of
Independent Television News to warn viewers of "the fate of your kind" and
that "you should contact your next generation to begin to prevent a disaster that
threatens your world and the beings of other worlds around you. "(This release

Hm, I don't buy it. It sounds like his script was written by someone very keen to "new age" wording.
Is there any proof of this actually happening? It would be very easy with modern video eiditing to create a hoax like this, and if they are so concerned about us why not reach us in a larger scale? And why leave this plane of existence?

edit: ok I followed a few links on the youtube comments that lead me to the wikipedia page on it, and it appears that this really did happen. They never found any person responsible for it, and then it was mostly written off as a hoax.

I'm pretty sure its a hoax, and I was trying to find some original
newspaper reports , but could not find them. I do seem to remember
something going on back then, but I'd have to see some literature
of the time to be sure. Close Encounter had just come out and
MK Ultra was in its hayday.......

I had a strong sense that this was a hoax.

For starters, the voice had a southern english accent.
At 4:39 the speaker says: '...and exist to pass on the...'
The word 'pass' is said with a southern english accent as if
the word were spelt (phonetically) as 'parrs'.
In nothern english, irish-english and american english the 'a' is short in 'pass'.
Here the 'a' is long.

And some of the sentence structures were recognisably drawn
from english literature, and the mode of expression is obviously poetic.
You can get a sense of this from just one sentence:

"We speak to you now in peace and wisdom as we have done
to your brothers and sisters all over this, your planet Earth."

Other human beings elsewhere on the planet are not literally brothers and sisters.
It's clearly a poetic use of "your brothers and sisters".
An accurate expression of this idea might be 'other members of your species'
or 'other members of the human race'

"We speak to you now in peace and wisdom"
Again, this is poetic. You can not literally speak 'in' peace nor 'in' wisdom'.
You can communicate with peaceful intentions, or you can seek to offer wisdom.
But literally you can not speak in peace and wisdom.
So this phrase is poetic not literal.
Probably, this phrase "in peace and wisdom" appears in the work of shakespeare
or another famous english writer or poet (but I haven't checked)

Finally there is this sentence construction which is rare in modern english:
"...this, your planet Earth."
This sounds like it's come from the english of the 19th century.

In my humble opinion, this is a hoax.
Somebody's has messed around with a recording of a human voice
to make it sound strange and 'other worldly'.
The sound distortions are somehow dated. They're 1970's sound distortions.
The recording reminds me of the sound effects produced by the BBC Sound Lab
for science fiction dramas, like 'Dr Who' and 'Sky'

I don't see that aliens would bother to give the voice an english accent.
I wonder whether aliens 'could' give a voice a specific accent ?
Speech isn't their home terrain, it's our home terrain.

An accent neutral version of english would sound as different to english-english
as english-english sounds to american-english, or irish-english.

It's interesting to me that this 'script' sets up some themes that will
be obviously significant for the new age movement decades later.

=> The great awakening
=> planet passing into the new age of Aquarius
=> The new age can be a time of great peace ...
=> pass to the high planes of evolution
=> pass on the light
=> pass to the higher realms of spiritual evolution
=> your inner divine self will protect you from this
=> may you be blessed by the supreme truth and love of the cosmos

According to Wikipedia the modern New Age movement started in the 1970s.
(inevitably some of it's key themes were around earlier).

Is this an astonishing coincidence ? Putative alien message specifies
the dominant themes of the New Age Moment ? In the mid 1970s,
right at the birth of the New Age Movement.

These hoaxers must have had some very fringe interests to have
hit that nail so squarely on the head.

Who did this hoax ? Maybe it wasn't university students with some
broadcasting equipment and a synthesiser.

Perhaps this was a deliberate project to seed the New Age Movement.
Something for believers to believe in.

If it is real it could be the electromagnetic pulse of the craft leaking into the audio, when the frequency increases it could be that the craft accelerates into its original dimension.

The first thing that came to mind was that the pulse is the carrier wave for the narration, adapting the frequency to precisely fit with the radio stations transmission, they were fine tuning the signal so to speak. But if it's a true ET signal they might also embed other information and with time technology gets good enough to decode it. As far as the accent, maybe the ETs speak in the mind of the contacees own language? The Italian friendship case showed that the ETs spoke perfect Italian with a precise dialect. Personally prefer not to dismiss this interesting case until more is known. If it was a hoax likely people would speak confessing the hoax, in this case nobody laid claim to it. Im not sure how many watts the original radio station signal was, maybe 50,000, and have never heard of any other cases where someone hi-jacked a radio station transmission.

The broadcast itself may have been hoaxed, but this is not a made up latter day story - this really did happen in 1977 (I personally have known about it for years and years, definitely long before sorcha fail). There really was an interruption in the ITV broadcast, and regardless of its actual source, that message was heard:
