NASA's New Horizons spacecraft has returned the best color and the highest resolution images yet of Pluto's largest moon, Charon - and these pictures show a surprisingly complex and violent history.

Not to kick sand on an interesting post, but what real evidence is there that this image is actually a real Moon?
It certainly looks pretty fake to this viewer. Looks like something a ten year old child makes in art class at school.
I have ever yet to see an image of Earth from NASA that wasn't also faked using photo-shopped/ computer generated imagery/ or just down right cheesy human art.
Lets see if other members on Avalon can spot the obvious flaws and stupidity that is easily apparent in the above photo :pop2:

well, you did kick sand and well, it is impossible to tell, due to the advancement in computing power that is now available to the average person. One who might invest in the time required to learn photo and image manipulation.
Due to the advent of digital studios for game development and editing suites for CGI and similar creation and manipulation, even many a course at university and college..besides all those people who currently have the know-how.....well.....due to all that...
Essentially, no one ever knows anything for sure, anymore, regarding imagery. These days we have to fall back on the question of the origin points of the imagery. Face value has lost it's.....value.
As for this specific Charon image, please, don't be derogatory and negative to a crowd that has not the learning and discernment.
That is a leading statement, that embodies a push into a negative position for the given reader. It is a form of NLP programming, and it is not something I'm inclined to ignore or invest in.

Hah! Nah... Someone hacked into NASA server and substituted something to some other*:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at solarsystem.nasa.gov.
* speculation of the moment...

Thank you for your input.
I guess it boils down to folks only wish to hear what they want to hear, and Truth of the matter is irrelevant.

Can you prove this is a fake? You said it was easy to tell and any 10 year old could have done an equal job. I wish to verify the credibility of your claim but can only do that if you provide your evidence that this is fake for me to evaluate. I don't take anything at face value, not NASA and not you, nor should anyone. Please provide backup for you claims. I am a 3D and visual artist myself and am very interested in hearing your expertise on this subject, if you don't mind; thanks.

Hello DeDukshun: The same thoughts have come to my mind. The above image, inside the discolored ring at the N pole appears to have a face in it. I am so tired of seeing Einstein's face on moon images, etc. At least I know not to trust anything they claim for the image. If this is not bogus, then the orb appears to have had a brush with the same thing that ruined Mars.

I saw a cloud once that looked like Einstein ... pretty sure it was a real cloud though. It is your (as a metaphor) word against NASA. Not that I trust NASA ... I do not, do not mistake. But they have at least an image. So far no one has any evidence to the contrary to present except "believe me" -- isn't that the same thing NASA does? Should I believe anything without evidence? At least NASA produced an image ... sure it might be fake, but isn't that better than just a broadly applied "believe me"? I am not saying you don't see Einstein in the planets, I just don't see it. Is there anyway you could describe it or even better provide an overlay? If we could provide evidence to the masses, we then could properly out the NASA lies. I am searching for evidence to do this.

This question can simply be turned around. Can you prove they are not fake?
The only way you could prove they are not fake is if you personally went to Pluto and verified that indeed this is what the Moon looked like.
I would assume that anyone having two brain cells going around in the same direction could possibly ask the question, why is the Moon light up like our Earth Moon if it is 3,670,050,000 miles from the Sun (nearly 40x times the distance from Earth and the Sun) . How could there possibly be that much light out in space to take such an image that is so bright? How come there are no other stars showing in the field around it. How come we are not shown a series of images showing various images of this Moon at various distances including the star fields?
Perhaps these questions are just simply too far outside of your present awareness. I must admit, it took me a few decades to wake up and smell the coffee.
If you are a 3D and visual artist as you claim, please provide me with any real proof that any footage of imagery showing planet Earth from space is not computer generated.
It might surprise you to discover that there is none.
Yes please go and find me some of those wonderful images on line from NASA that is suppose to be showing the Earth rotating Earth Seen From Space Station ISS and explain how the clouds are not moving.
Go and do some research ..... I did.

why is the Moon light up like our Earth Moon
Leave the camera shutter open longer? Use sensors that are more sensitive to low light? Adjust the brightness of the resulting image?

Sorry folks...
The rhetorical, circular non-discussion has been cut short:
