Alternative method against asthma, hypertension and also extremely effective for a whole range of related disorders such as allergies, rhinitis, bronchitis, sleeping disorders (such as sleep apnea), breathing problems, etc.

Years ago I was addicted to nose sprays/drops which I used because of a chronic nasal obstruction. Because I really had to kick this habit I developed a way of breathing that helped me to overcome my respiratory problems.

How great was my surprise when I found this writing in a Dutch News Letter I subscribe to .
It’s about the The Buteyko method or Buteyko Breathing Technique.
A practice originally used for the treatment of asthma.

I have tried to translate the letter into the best of my English….. So bare with me.

It is amazing to find out that nose drops, nasal sprays, asthma ‘puffs’ and many of these things are in fact superfluous once you know the correct way of breathing. Recently I was on a course of Buteyko.
This teaches you a different method of breathing. When applying, all respiratory diseases can be overcome and to my great joy, this really works. It's just a law of nature.
It also significantly reduces high blood pressure and regulates cholesterol. And one person was even free from rheumatic joint ache.
I asked my regular doctor if he was aware of this and he shrugged his shoulders and said, “Ah there is so much to deal with, perhaps one day we will get into this. (although the pharmacists will not be going to like it)”

You can do the test, for example, if your nose is congested .You'll see that it works right away, so all that chemistry is in fact is unnecessary.
In case of a blocked nose; just quietly sit down and relax. Like that you need less air.
Slowly breath in with your mouth closed, through that very tiny hole in your nostril, that’s still (barely) free, thus inhaling much less air than you're used to and then softly exhale..
Stop a few seconds (10-20) after exhaling before you breath in again. During those 10 to 20 seconds your nose will completely open without drops or sprays. If not in the first breathing then it will happen little by little in the second or third one.

If there isn’t even a small hole in your nostril to inhale then breath slowly through your mouth while you relax !!
Breathe out and try not to breathe until you feel you need to breathe, do this a few times in a row and your nose will ‘open’. Remember to stay relaxed.

How is this possible? When we have an irritation or defect in our respiratory organs it is most of the time due to a shortage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in our blood. Our body is trying to protect us by lowering the amount of oxygen in our blood. By shutting down the respiratory organs temporarily the CO2 content in our blood increases and the problems is resolved.
Also snoring and sleep apnea will disappear.

It is concluded that we take in too much air at times we don't need it. ( when we don’t do things that need much effort) It is claimed that even emphysema can be reduced by this breathing method.

The punch line lies in the fact not to take in more breaths that you strictly need.

I think for many people it will be an eye opener so they can eventually throw away all the chemical stuff they have been relying on.

Even high blood pressure can be cured according to Dr Buteyko

***The majority of the vessels of the circulatory system have a smooth muscle wrapped around them. When CO2 levels are low smooth muscle becomes tense and vessels are constricted. This in turn causes blood pressure to rise to overcome this resistance. It was in fact Dr Buteyko's own high blood pressure which led him to develop his breathing technique. With the Buteyko Method, breathing is normalised, CO2 levels return to normal and vessel constriction is reduced, so blood pressure falls back to normal levels.***

THE HISTORY OF BUTEYKO

http://members.westnet.com.au/pkolb/but_hist.htm

About the man and his discovery:

......During the second month of this independent work it occurred to Buteyko that certain diseases may develop as a result of deep breathing. He himself had suffered form hypertension for some time, and had often pondered its causes. By measuring his carbon dioxide levels, Buteyko discovered that his body's carbon dioxide level was lower than recommended. It was known that over breathing lowered carbon dioxide levels in the body. He theorised that if his low levels were caused by over-breathing, then by correcting his breathing he may able to cure his disorder.

He immediately began experimenting on himself. Soon he had trained himself to breathe in a more shallow fashion. He found that by reducing his breathing, some symptoms such as headache and rapid heart beat also reduced. When he increases the depth of his breathing, the symptoms returned. Buteyko concluded that he had discovered the reason for his disease. He immediately set out to devise a programme by which a patient's breathing could be quickly and effectively measured and then, if need be, reconditioned. He had shortly healed himself completely........

Yes bluestflame, it's all about reducing breath and relaxing.
Pssst..... I smoke as well from time to time....but always slow and easy LOL

yes , key is being present and releasing the conflict , though the breath is the focus , being aware of the fight assists us to release it

This is in conflict with most everything we read about breathing. I've always been taught to breath deeply. Is this protocol only for providing remedy to those with breathing difficulties? I'm confused.

When you read the links I provide in the first two posts, you will see that it really makes sense.

One deep (belly) breath is good though to relax the diaphragm area... to get rid of that knot in your stomach.....

The deep breathing that is taught in (western way of ) Yoga practice, should actually be done mentally....... ( manipulating of Shiva and Shakti energy )
