I cannot believe that Pope Francis said this and is still alive. I left the Catholic church back in the 50s when I was 12 years old. I felt at odds with their divisionism ways. (Eventually, I left all churches for similar reasons.)

Through acts of love and charity the atheist acknowledges God as well, and redeems his own soul, becoming an active participant in the redemption of humanity.”
One statement in the Pope’s speech has sent traditionalists into a fit of confusion and hysteria ... “God is changing and evolving as we are, for God lives in us and in our hearts. When we spread love and kindness in the world, we touch our own divinity and recognize it.
The Bible is a beautiful holy book, but like all great and ancient works, some passages are outdated. Some even call for intolerance or judgment. The time has come to see these verses as later interpolations, contrary to the message of love and truth, which otherwise radiates through scripture.
In accordance with our new understanding, we will begin to ordain women as cardinals, bishops and priests. In the future, it is my hope that we will have a woman pope one day. Let no door be closed to women that is open to men!”

To my knowledge, Pope Francis has NEVER said anything about ordaining women nor of the possibility one might ever become Pope.

I did read that he is taking out a couple of the ten commandments and adding a couple new ones that are more tolerant about gays:

Addressing the inclusion of the new Commandments, which bring the total number to eleven, Pope Francis praised the rapid growth of technology in the digital age but said “progress comes at a price.” The new Fifth Commandment, which replaces the prohibition of adultery, forbids all aspects of genetic engineering and bans the consumption of genetically modified foods.

Lastly, the Eleventh Commandment disallows personal idolization and the glorification of one’s self over God. Using the Kardashians, a highly publicized celebrity family, as an example, Pope Francis said, “Selfies are an abomination in the eyes of our Lord.”

A spokesman for the Vatican, Father Federico Lombardi, said the Eleven Commandments are currently being etched into marble by an Italian sculptor and, upon completion, will be unveiled to the world in Saint Peter’s Square following an internationally televised mass.

These are great changes in their own right but giving more power to women wasn't part of these planned changes. That part to me raised a red flag. The Catholic Church is still taking a hard line as far as ordaining women and certainly have no intention to have a women as Pope. I'm surprised the paper this was written on didn't burst into flames at the very idea :ROFL:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets

this being said by christians messenger, does that mean what the pope is saying in darla's quotes is that he is a practicing jew? Why talk the 10 when it is trumped by the 2?

...that being said, if Jesus was a myth, what is wrong with following the 2 commandments he gave? I find it funny the "vicar of christ" does not put it more simply the way Jesus did , regardless of him being a histroical figure or not.....
