I am very convinced that the awakening process is to a great deal happening spiritually/emotionally and I think that this part of the awakening process is also one that leads people forward towards truth in a very good way. I think that it is very optimal to seek balance between aiming for awakening spiritually/emotionally and physically/scientifically.
Now, what exactly that means, is kind of personal, I mean every person is at various stages in life at different points in time and hence the spiritual needs might vary. I am personally convinced that great spiritual guidance is found along themes that want to explore the spiritual paths that lead toward unconditional love, peace and spiritual healing and for me that is through Christ consciousness. Tons of spiritual teachings out there are very self focused. One of the reasons why I find Christ consciousness to match the unconditional love theme so well is because it also expresses the force of love in the direction from self outwards, rather than towards the self only. The core of the Christian message is basically to love others so unconditionally that even life itself is not put as a condition on that love - to die for your friend. An example of this would be that in a hostage situation when your friend is about to get shot, you would boldly step forward and ask them to shoot you instead. In other words, the Christian message is very focused on removing limitations of love towards others, to the max. I love that, it is something I can definitely become better at, it is something I find this world needs - it says end all of your military activities, violance and hate and bring peace. Freedom is in loving one another unconditionally.

Reading the above, I was reminded of this Maxim :

Yes. And that total unconditional love can only come when we unconditionally love ourselves first. We cannot give what we don't have. So if one feels a lack there and most all of us do to one degree or another, we have to tend to that first.
When we have nothing but love for ourselves then we have nothing but love to give others. Especially when you start to get that we are all One being expressing ourselves in individual bodies and personalities.
This is exactly why so many other teachings are self focused.
I think also Jesus's teachings were self focused as well. It's all in how you look at it. I believe that message was purposefully obscured as well by those in power in the creation of the bible.

This will look as a contradiction, but it isn't.
The first step that one needs to take is towards oneself.
One has to first love oneself.
If this first step is missed, then all other steps that will follow will also be missed steps.
Because one will be moving further & further away from oneself, from one's own being.
Loving oneself is primary. One has to totally love oneself first & foremost.
And in the process of totally loving oneself, one will know who one really is.
Moving more within, one comes to know more & more of who they are.
Knowing more of who one is, one will automatically come to know who others are.
Loving oneself totally, one will also come to loving others for who they are.
What happens with this process of going within & totally loving oneself, one will become a cup over-flowing. As a cup over-flows, love will flow outwardly from the person in all directions. Others that are in close proximity will feel the over-flowing love coming from such an individual.
Consider:
How can one really know how to take care of another, without first knowing what it means to take care of oneself? How can one love another, without first knowing what it means to love oneself?
Looking for love to come from others, is being a beggar.
Expecting to be loved by others, will only end in frustration.
Hoping to find someone that will accept your love is being naive & immature.
Love oneself deeply & totally & others will be attracted to such a person.
The power of love grows from within, and radiates outwardly like the Sun.

I agree that loving yourself is a big step towards spiritual awakening. Learning
to forgive everyone that has wronged you is an even bigger step. Not getting stuck
in the duality of good vs. evil is something i struggle with at times. Five years ago
i took to path of service to others and unconditional love. I had some truly
beautiful experiences during these times, but i had to isolate myself to maintain
it.
Lets be honest, we live in a world far from unconditional love. My new journey
involves mastering neutrality. Its hard to do but i take no sides be it good or evil
they are all tools for people on this planet to learn. If you truly want to awaken
learn to see the world through a neutral lens. Ramblings of an old scholar soul
