It doesn't matter what your situation is or what is going on around you God wants to give you peace in the midst of the storm.

May the Lord bless you and keep you. Let the Lord's face shine upon you and give you peace.

Humans have the gift of logic. Perhaps, I am limited in my thinking, but I give credence to those things that are logical. The age old question still remains. Why would Jesus, or God allow suffering only to provide comfort from the atrocities that are allowed to happen? If I, as a parent of a young child allow my child to play on the freeway, am I any less responsible for his injuries because I will provide loving comfort to him after he is run over? What kind of parent am I? If your response is that God allows us to suffer, because life is a sort of school, then why provide comfort after the fact at all? Would we not become stronger if we learned to self comfort? The same goes for God getting us out of a situation we don't like. What doe that do for the learning or building of character? Does that not resemble a child that is always being bailed out by parents that want the child to avoid suffering.

I don't mean to be disrespectful in any way, but the Christian religion as I understand it simply defies logic.

Yes and yes.
