IT WILL soon be legal to carry unloaded firearms in checked-baggage on trains in the US after Congress has lifted restrictions imposed in the wake of September 11, 2001 attacks.

"In December 2009 the US Congress passed a law that told us that we had to reinstate firearms as part of checked baggage service," said US national rail corporation Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm.

Weapons allowed when the new policy begins on December 15 include shotguns, rifles and pistols, and a passenger can also carry up to five kilos of ammunition.

"Amtrak operates over 300 trains a day... We anticipate less than 100 have checked baggage service. So less than a third of our trains have checked baggage service," the train service said in a statement.

Since the 2009 vote, Amtrak has invested $US2 million ($2.07 million) to modify 142 cars that carry checked luggage to install secure cabinets, and the passenger themselves can be the sole holder of the key or lock combination to access the firearms.

This makes no sense at all, but posting it for discussion...

( if true , maybe this is a set up to get people firing the first shot??)

astrid,

I understand where you are coming from, However you need to understand the US Constitution.

i.e. The 2nd Amendment in the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights.

If the US Govt. stuck to the Constitution there would have been no Wars in Iraq or Afghanistan for they are illegal under the Constitution. Why? Because a 'Declaration of War' must be made by a majority vote by Congress not by the President, under the Constitution Congress must state when the War will start and finish and state how much it is going to cost!

Another thing that is Unconstitutional is the US Federal Reserve which has illegally brought America to it's knees, they illegally print "Fiat" money out of thin air backed by nothing and are Accountable to no-one!

I merely pointed this out because the Founding Fathers knew what they were doing when they wrote the Constitution.

Patrick Henry (Founding Father) Quote:

"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -- lest it come to dominate our lives and interests."

So if the Corrupt US Govt. & Fed were strict Constitutionalists and adhered to ALL the Amendments, America and the world for that matter would not be in the mess it is in today!

...and that means adhering to all the amendments including the 2nd 'The Right to Bare Arms'! Loaded or Unloaded!

As Jack points out it is our constitutional right in the US to own and carry (with certain restrictions) guns. I am certainly happy for that although this right is under constant attack from those who would like to see a disarmed population. But it is people who kill, not guns. If one truly wishes to stop the killing then people must be outlawed.

It does seem a bit silly to have to carry an unloaded gun as when you really need it there is rarely time to load the ammo. We have lots of guns and swords and knives, but my husband doesn't need anything besides his mind and body to defend himself. I am not as strong as he so I do like to have the option of having a gun. These weapons are more for fun and if you don't think weapons are fun, oh well. They still are marvelous tools if you need to make a little hole at a distance really fast.

Yes, they are hair trigger explosively released knives - with a distance aspect. See it for what it is. They are actually, quite primitive, and only one technological step up from a bow.

I heard a while back that: in the country I'm in, the government actually began an assessment to look at trying to ban large kitchen knives..due to violence in the home.

Speaking of bows I was looking at some great crossbows the other day! We do have a couple but these were pretty high tech for such a primitive weapon. Yes, there are some fearsome weapons that are much more lethal than guns, bows and knives.... like the human mind!

Amazing how stupid most governments are but nothing they do surprises me and I'm sure you're used to the utter insanity of how they attempt to control people. I find it rather amusing to see the rampant insanity and how blatant the lies are. If they ban large kitchen knives in your country, what's next? baseball bats?
