E. O. Wilson: "Aliens Are Out There and They Probably Look Like This"
eS875xBs1T4

The real problem of humanity is the following: we have paleolithic emotions; medieval institutions; and god-like technology. And it is terrifically dangerous, and it is now approaching a point of crisis overall.

Until we answer those huge questions of philosophy that the philosophers abandoned a couple of generations ago—Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?—rationally, we’re on very thin ground. (source (https://www.reddit.com/r/quotes/comments/3rj77p/the_tragedy_of_humanity_is_that_we_have_stone_age/))

E. O. Wilson, “The one process ongoing…that will take millions of years to correct is the loss of genetic and species diversity by the destruction of natural habitats. This is the folly our descendants are least likely to forgive us.”

Good post

Just one thought:
In relation to ET not having claws, well I understand what E. O. Wilson is saying but:
Clawed ET could in my mind just as easily be out there, they would have developed there tech to suite their need and physical abilities.
If they got to an advanced mind level they could also make gloves and such like aides to allow manipulation of any material and or shaped object!
I agree from our evolution (?) view point claws are seen to be not ideal!

And what about the possibility of Hybrid clawed ET's

and of course what about ET's that could have no limbs to speak of but have telekinesis and or direct creator manipulation abilities!

It could be an open ended universe of possibilities ha!

It is great though to hear respected peoples of hi learning speaking out on such matters :) (Wish I was one Doh!)

Brilliant.

He really got me with the group selection and how selfishness wins on an individual level of competition with altruistic individuals but on a group level the altruistic group wins over the selfish group.

Thank you, great post.

To fix this requires that one directly threaten and take absolute and total risk with their own life.

Risk yourself totally, or die on the vine.

It really is that simple.

Nobody gets out alive.

The only decision on your plate is if you have children.... and if those children.... live short tortured brutish lives in a fully blow hell.... or not.

The alien probably lives across the street from you , and the whole time you're looking o out there, she shakes her head saying silly humans, I've got a lot of work to do here ... lol. On a serious note, we encounter them all the time., we just aren't so perceptive ...

Philosophy is the foundation and reason for the existence of science. There would be no science (which is a philosophy in itself) ...without an underlying philosophy to justify its pursuit in the first place.

I wonder what he is thinking or meaning when he uses the term "philosophy" ..."religion" maybe? (another form of philosophy) or the half baked stuff taught in ivory towered universities, used to make philosophy look like a joke and waste of time?
