exactly... what happened to the close up shot?... and that whole shot looked very ambiguous... just didn't do anything for me... the switch from water to land?... is that misdirection? I think Musk is in over his head... there's just so much money involved...

...that's when you start seeing "weird scenes in the goldmine"...

Considering they were supposed to have the technology in 1969, I'd like to think so... but there is nothing in this video that conclusively validates that... wishful thinking doesn't cut it... you have to admit, it would be nice to have a more believable video...

Maybe those earlier closeups were too telling... but unfortunately we know that if he WANTED to, he could have had a spectacular close up of this historical first... maybe he didn't want to get his investors too excited? It's not like he is a showman... naaah

it's not like they didn't know when and where it was going to land right? o.O... so let's set up a camera a mile away? really?... this is how they want to capture a world first? a historical accomplishment? from a mile away when we know they were filming the previous landings from 30 feet away? (....oops)

No wonder it's so easy to fool the masses... you can't hypnotize people without their willingness... it's true... the subject has to be complicit and participate... it may, or may not have landed... but the video doesn't provide clear confirmation either way, it's ambiguous by definition... when it absolutely didn't have to be... ... this we do know for sure...

This video fairly shouts out something entirely different to my mind... but that's the difference between me and you... no biggie...

SpaceX rocket in historic upright landing

US company SpaceX has successfully landed an unmanned rocket upright,
after sending 11 satellites into orbit.The Falcon-9 craft touched down late
on Monday night, about 10km from its launch pad at Cape Canaveral, Florida.

It is not the first spacecraft to land a booster vertically; that feat was claimed
by the much smaller New Shepard rocket in Texas last month.

Nonetheless the Falcon-9 flight, which also went twice as high as New Shepard,
is a milestone towards reusing rockets.

SpaceX aims to slash the cost of private space operations with such reusable
components - but the company has not launched a rocket since one exploded in June.

Sounds great on paper but consider who's paying for it... (totally gullible and manipulated taxpayers) this is just another corporate welfare scheme with minimal payout.... Considering the whole thing is a farce to begin with, since if we do create a viable and cost effective off world mining industry... Do you really think it would ever be cost effective flying up and down guzzling a million tons of oil and gas or hydrogen?... Get real! ...here is where everyone is living in television land again... and not doing the math... i.e. this definitely doesn't apply to future mining... (as much as I loved Ripley and the Alien movies...)

IF and WHEN we get around to it, it would have to be zero point energy based anti-gravity technology... like when we become a Type 1 Civilization... this is just smoke and mirrors... he's a front for "continued military funding"... at the most extreme and worst case scenario, for all we know, he is caught between a rock and a hard place and laundering money for black op military operations... Try and calculate how much one rocket shot cost... then times 2 for the landing plus extra for a huge payload supposedly... even if it was gold (even more weight) This would never be viable under these circumstances, ergo, this is not the game... it just doesn't apply

Realistically, it is for mickey mouse supply launches to a low orbit space station and/or satellite launches... and technically they already have the mini military space shuttle that could do that... or build one large enough for a two man crew...

... but if you want to think alternatively... and still have some semblance of "commercial viability" (relatively speaking of course because this is astronomical costs to begin with) would be a military application (or course, that's why we have to keep killing each other, or our economies would "fail"... ) But consider, in the event of a REAL ALL OUT WW3 scenario... the first thing to go would be satellites... A study of WW2 would show it was a war of attrition... i.e. kill the most soldiers, destroy the most tanks, drop the most bombs, or who could sink the most shipping especially, was highly correlated with who won the war and nothing else... It was literally the side that could manufacture the most supplies and ships that won...

Now... whoever could replace satellites the quickest could have a potentially huge advantage... logistically in a war with over a 10,000,000 soldiers involved... and replaceable boosters could shift that balance... you would have to have a system to replace satellites faster then they could be destroyed... again price and economics, outside of this thin definition just doesn't factor otherwise...

And realistically speaking (coming back down to earth for a minute) Right now ANYTHING that could deliver a payload into low earth orbit would be an achievement for the West...

anyhow... that was fun while it lasted... ; -P

The ability for a rocket to takeoff and land again (vertically) is not that new. (Getting the same rocket into orbit is another thing altogether)... ;)

The DC-X, short for Delta Clipper or Delta Clipper Experimental, was an unmanned prototype of a reusable single-stage-to-orbit launch vehicle built by McDonnell Douglas in conjunction with the United States Department of Defense's Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) from 1991 to 1993. Starting 1994 until 1995, testing continued through funding of the US civil space agency NASA. Although it never went into orbit, it's flight demonstrations were almost unbelievable (displaying, dare I say it, almost UFO type maneuvers). Unfortunately, the prototype "fell-over" on its last flight/landing and exploded - that's the last the public ever saw of it.

In 1996, the DC-X technology was completely transferred to NASA, which upgraded the design for improved performance to create the DC-XA. (Should give you a clue where THAT ended up ;)

Not directly linked but an interesting article I thought after all the Russia
'bashing' and sanctions led by the US and the EU . It looks like congress
has removed the ban to buy some new rocket engines. It was not worth
a new thread , but wanted to post it on a related thread.

‘Two US companies have ordered a new batch of Russian rocket engines
for civil and commercial launches, shortly after Congress removed a ban
on using such rockets.

United Launch Alliance (ULA), a joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Boeing,
said Wednesday it had ordered 20 new RD-180 rocket engines from Russia on
top of 29 engines it ordered last year.

The Russian engines will be used to lift off the Atlas 5 rockets until a new
American-made engine is developed and certified, the ULA said.’

Thanks Sigma 6 enjoyed your perceptive down to Earth ( sorry ) perspective. Ever since Space X came out of the woodwork I was convinced it was another space scam but puzzlingly, transparently so.
The Moon and Mars ambitions are ludicrous. Russia has been working on a manned moon landing since 2010 and hopes to achieve it in 2034. Space X can, we are told, now deliver two people to the ISS, the fulfilment of a 9 year project bearing in mind that it took just 8 years to achieve the first moon landing.
Considering the incalculable costs of colony projects, especially Mars, I unreservedly agree with you that even if gold diamonds and lithium were stock piled and ready for pick up, payload limitations would invalidate any opportunity of financial return.
Little did we know that when Kennedy made the most ridiculous boast ever to made in the whole of human history what a tangled web was to be woven
