Not since 1977 has a full moon dawned in the skies on Christmas. But this year, a bright full moon will be an added gift for the holidays.

December’s full moon, the last of the year, is called the full cold moon because it occurs during the beginning of winter.

The moon’s peak this year will occur at 6:11 a.m. EST. The rising time of the Moon depends entirely on your geographic location, both longitude and latitude.

This will be the first Christmas Day full moon since 1977.

Just think about that: there was no internet, no cellphones, no flat-screen TVs and 8-tracks were still alive. Jimmy Carter was president of the United States and we had a different Trudeau as prime minister of Canada...:o The Bee Gees were on the radio, Saturday Night Fever was in the theaters. ;) and J.R.R. Tolkien was a best-selling author.

In that full moon in 1977 there was also the first Star Wars movie :clapping:

The Full Moon in Cancer fits very snugly into these traditions and themes. For one thing, Cancer is very much about family and childhood. It represents both the family that you have now in your adulthood and your family of origin that you grew up with. It's your overall family: parents, siblings and extended family.

This is a time when you are likely to feel that homing instinct the urge to reconnect with the best of the past, to revisit the nest from whence you sprang all those years ago, either physically or in spirit. If that's not possible or if your memories of home are more upsetting than uplifting, you may find your mind swimming with visions of what might have been.

On one hand, there is an open-hearted receptivity that Neptune aspecting the Cancer Moon can bring. This is wonderful for joyous camaraderie, creative inspiration, deep appreciation for anything that warms the heart, and coasting along with the prevailing flow happening around you.

Even if you don't partake in Christmas, you should get out for a walk with your family on Christmas Eve. Leave phones and electronics behind. Think about our connections to each other as we all view the same moon every day. Love one another.

Much love to you all!:sun:

That was a very interesting post Gaia. I noticed the full(ish) moon at 3am when I couldn't sleep a couple of nights ago because of the heat (it having been 44 C in the day, with bush fires). We also had a showing of the Aurora Australis, the southern lights on the same night and the sky was a weird orange shade! And yesterday was our longest day.

All of which means that we do not have a cold full moon here, but a sweaty hot one---but good to see anyway!
