There are several pieces to this story.

The bottom line - it looks like the "American Patriots" (the one's that the main stream would label as "gun nuts") are being setup to lose a bloody conflict with US Federal forces, as justification for Obama to institute the regulations needed to substantially increase Federal control of guns in America.

The lead up to this standoff involves a longer running conflict between the Hammonds and the Federal government.

The Hammonds are ranchers on the last bit of private land in a large area of southern Oregon that has been taken as Federal property. The Feds would "like" (have been pushing hard for years to have) the Hammonds to leave their ranch. Most recently, two of the Hammonds have been convicted of burning some federal land (arson), and are due to turn themselves in tomorrow, Monday.

A previous standoff similar to this occurred a couple of years ago, at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada, with a large contingent of armed militia and Federal forces facing off, before standing down without shooting. I've been wondering what the last minute lame duck agendas were going to be. The Hammonds used a fire to protect their land from a bigger fire threat and then were accused of arson and terrorism. All of this because the BLM is tying to push them off the cattle land their family has used for over 100 years.

In 2006 a massive lightning storm started multiple fires that joined together inflaming the countryside. To prevent the fire from destroying their winter range and possibly their home, Steven Hammond (Son) started a backfire on their private property. The backfire was successful in putting out the lightning fires that had covered thousands of acres within a short period of time. The backfire saved much of the range and vegetation needed to feed the cattle through the winter. Steven’s mother, Susan Hammond said: “The backfire worked perfectly, it put out the fire, saved the range and possibly our home”.

It's not primarily our freedom, nor our guns, that they are after so much as it is the planet's resources, such as this case, the mineral rights under that area of land. Taking our freedom and our guns is just collateral damage ... a necessary means to the desired end.

Since at least the time of Clinton's presidency, back in the 1990's, the Federal government has been taking vast swaths of land, especially in the Western US and Alaska. For example in Nevada (where the Bundy Ranch standoff occurred back in April 2014) the Federal government now owns 84% of the entire state's land.

The bastards in power don't view that as land owned by ordinary Americans, but as a source of raw materials from "their" planet, and would rather we just get the heck out of the way, or kneel down and start digging (die or slave labor or at least comatose and infertile coach potatoes, transferring whatever remaining income or assets we might have to the banksters.)

Historically speaking, Obama gets what Obama wants. He understands when to apply pressure based upon the collective temperature created by the controlled media, and he understands when to back off. Not sure this is about mineral rights, given that we are in a glut. I have only been approached once in several years about rights, by the Bluegrass Pipeline, that folded under grass roots public pressure.

Gun rights and the Second Amendment will never be repealed. What we need to do is put the nuts back in the jar (repeal Reagan/Thatcher release of the mentally ill onto the streets). And maybe that is where this is headed, albeit not politically correct.

Our main menu for the holiday was hunted, shot and processed in the wild. Ammunition is expensive and harder to come by these days so if you want to eat, you had better be a good shot. I realize that all of the gun control propaganda is aimed at disarming Americans because it is damn hard to control a population that can defend ourselves against tyranny. My 11 year old daughter who got her hunting license last year provided us with our holiday meal. To us backwoods folks who have to rely on our own savvy to survive, taking away our guns equates with not being able to feed our families. Starving is not an option. We give great thanks and bury the heart of the animal to give back to earth and pay our respect for a life given so that we may have sustenance and survive. This is no small thing. It is sacred. And we will break bread and feed our neighbors like they are our next of kin. You can try to hold us back but you can't break us.
