I grew up with parents who understood this and I have only worn shoes when I absolutely had to ...I haven't been sick for even a day for over 30 years(I'm 40) and I'm sure that being grounded and connected with the "Mother" is a major reason for that..please consider this info..peace,Rick

Interesting...I love my barefeet...
Just look at many indigenous tribes, all over the world.
your soles expel toxins, so, shove em in socks n shoes and you have a stewing pool of unwanted muck...let em breath, massaging feet through natural means (barefoot) is excellent!

my kids went barefoot alot.. i used to get "looks" from other parents about it..
i too love being barefoot..

I'm 63 years old and rarely wore shoes unless I was going out somewhere where I wanted to dress up, and I did have some very nice shoes but they stayed nice for years since they got such rare use. In high school (in So. Calif.) I got kicked out several times for not wearing shoes to school. They would call my mother and say "why won't Nancy wear shoes to school"? My mother would answer "Nancy feels she has a closer connection to the earth when she's barefooted and I can't make her do something she doesn't want to do". So I was thought to be rather weird back then, which I suppose I was but I was rarely convinced by anyone else's opinions if they didn't seem logical to me.
I moved with my first husband to Chicago in about 1965 and made it almost through the winter without wearing shoes, just my usual flip flops, until we had a huge storm. I had to wear boots then. We also lived in Canada for a while and I wore boots when it snowed. Living on the west coast I rarely wear shoes now. I think I've worn shoes just once or twice in the last 3 years since being in Vancouver WA. I never wear shoes at home and just flip flops when going shopping, etc. They're easy to slip on and off.
My feet almost never get cold. I didn't start going barefoot because of anything I read or because it was the thing to do, it just felt better, and I always did what I wanted to do even if everyone else thought it was strange. I also raised my children to be barefoot most of the time.

Perhaps the real benefit of going barefoot has to do with stimulating the reflexology points underneath the feet?
I know how good it feels to have your feet massaged; used to pay for foot massage.;)
Try walking along a shallow stream with lots of pebbles, or construct a reflexology footpath in your garden, you will feel your circulation and metabolism getting a lift.

Well im a recent subscriber to the barefooted running fad. From what i've read, your body makes minute adjustments as to how to displace your bodyweight every time you take step, these happen without you noticing. Shoes rob your body of doing this almost entirely. Keeping you from getting sick?? I can't fully subscribe to that notion yet. I think what keeps us sick and weak is ourselves, our lethargic, sendentary lifestyles keep us weak and sick. When i'm not running I wear shoes, and I, too, almost never get sick so I don't know what the greater truth is. I have noticed the muscles around my ankles and calves get much bigger and stronger, and my 5k time has increased greatly, but i dont know if barefootedness is the fountain of youth that TS believes.

I have been dowsing for a number of years ( easy to learn and very useful skill to have), and i was able to identify and rectify a few "energy" issues in my house.
Its made a noticeable difference to sleep patterns, health issues, and my general energy levels.
Buildings get sick, just like we do, and living in a sick building is no fun at all....

I saw the thread title "shoes are making you sick" and the first thing I thought of was walk through any shoe store or the shoe dept. of Walmart or other like place. All the cheap chemicals used in China (likely ones that are illegal to use in North America but are legal for export) to make all those shoes, leeching out and forming that toxic cloud that hangs thick in those places. Funny how in this age of "product safety" Nobody is testing the air in those stores and it's effect on the people that work and shop in them.
But about WEARING shoes. I like them. It wasn't until I was planting rice in Indonesia that I figured out what toes are for. You see all the locals walking around with these highly developed tendons in their feet. But I just laugh at the people, westerners, who walk around barefoot in Africa or wearing sandals, ignorant of the things that can bore through the skin of your feet, lay eggs and cause really big problems.

Great suggestion, just be careful you don't step on a rusty nail (tetanus) or stand on soil with an open cut or wound on your foot...

what does one lose for wearing shoes? Is it the massaging effect of uneven ground or the grounding or both.

I greatly enjoy bare feet in the dew laden grass, glistening in the early morning sun. This practice was recommended to me by another healer, and although I may not attest to all the benefits she did, it does feel very good to do so.
