Curious what works best for you, and for which purposes?

I personally like to breathe in slowly for 12 seconds and than hold 3 seconds and then the same pattern for exhalation.

Hello Skyheaven.
There is a quantum breathing technic which goes as follow. Breath in while counting, for example until 4 then hold it while counting until 4 then breath out while counting 4 , hold again until 4 before starting again. Then you have to do 4 series of 4 complete breath in /breath out. If you can hold until 5. ,6,7 or what ever you'l have to do the same number of series the same number of times.
This technic is perfect for OBE.
In-joy it.
Much love

I just breathe in and breathe out. It slows down on its own depending on how calm the mind is. The gap between breathing in and out increases on is own.

First thing to make sure of is:

Nose in mouth out!
(Once you are breathing cleanly you might Nose in and nose out)

Full abdomen to chest breathing.
First breath out all gasses from your system, starting at the depths of your abdomen, then through to your lower lung, then upper lung, breath it all out
(But don't strain or force, strain and force causes pollution)

Then start the in breath at the very depth of your abdomen and so going through the same sequence as the out breath.
This is how cats breath, cyclically.

If you aim to fill from the depth of your abdomen the air coming in goes through your lungs on it's way down then through you lungs again on the way out!
This will clear out any stale air/gasses from your abdomen, keeping it healthy.

Nose in mouth out

1)
One of my mediation breathing styles is:

Nose, breath in but!
Mental visualize and feel it is coming in through the base of your spine.
It rises up your spine through your neck, through your brain, out the top of your head in a forwards tumbling motion.
Then back down through your brow, down your chest bone into your heart.
this is a base that can be built upon.

2)
This is a great meditative breathing technique I developed:

Start this medation/breathing while a passenger, say on a bus etc.
First do lots of deep breathing to energize your system.
Then sit up straight and concentrate of the motion of the bus IE forwards, backwards, left and right.
This counteracts the need to use mussels to keep your self comfortable within the buffeting motion of the bus!
When the bus exhilarates breath in (Trying as you do to match the time to your inward breath)

Do the opposite for slowing down motion of the bus (Breath out, timed to the length needed)

Practice this and you will get to the point where you no longer are affected by the forward/backward motion of the bus, in those directions you are still in relation to the bus :)
Practice that until you no longer need to try, then you can start working out how to do the same for the left/right motion of the bus/body.
You will get to the point of looking still to an onlooker, you will feel still, no buffeting or swaying :)
Once you have mastered the above you can then move on to the up and down motions of the bus and your body. This then leads to a levitation effect on your body.

It will feel like you are connected to a beam coming out of your brow to which you are suspended and or projecting:sun:
then use it anywhere, to negate any force put upon your body.
I once had 4 big police officers trying to move me against my will, I resisted by that breathing method. I stopped just before I was about to be hit. I then said look I'm not resisting by demonstrating how I could have been resisting, I dragged to 2 offices who where holding my arms, then stepped forwards and did a little circle.
They all let go and I walked to where they wanted me to go:)
They realized I could have been bouncing them around, twisting them together if I had wanted to fully resist:sun:

I used to practice 'Sticky Hands' which used in conjunction to the above breathing technique is as good as a martial art in it's own right!
Simply move to where you wan't to go, anything in your way either goes with you or is just pushed aside, and I don't mean you have to be moving fast, slow walking will do it :)
Breathing is a very deep tool and can be developed for many reasons, not just health!

Leonard Orr studied under the Immortal Babaji.

Orr personally told me to NEVER hold the breath for any reason as this facilitates death. Also the inhale/exhale should flow smoothly.

Whether or not Orr has gained anything which sets him apart form other conscious breathers is up to you to decide. After knowing him since the 90's I like him and think he is sincere as much of his information comes directly from Masters or through study. However, I have not seen any noticeable benefit by him through his techniques, at least towards physical immortality. He has obviously aged throughout the years.

For evening meditation, I start with four seconds in, hold for two, breath out, hold for two, for a 12 second cycle. From there I try to go up to 12 seconds in, hold for three, 12 out, hold for three. for a 30 second cycle, or 2 breaths per minute (which looks like your technique as well ... interesting). Can do it for 10 - 20 minutes sustained.

Slow controlled breathing, as opposed to outright "deep breathing" is the key.

Like I said above:

Breathing is a very deep tool and can be developed for many reasons, not just health!

The Tao and Buddhist monks
use breathing for many reasons, one is to advance their souls evolution as preparation for death!
A way of being able to by pass the white Light Tunnel and chose their next and best reincarnation, and so keep their knowledge upon return (That is if they did not break the chain of reincarnation)
The above is from their 'Forbidden knowledge'
The breath in this use is to actually bypass the breathing, to hold breath past the next gasp, then the next gasp and so on, that is why it is forbidden knowledge!

Dr Richard Miller AKA RAM
uses special breathing techniques for training 'Navy Seals' and altering time, altering your position/actions within time, and attaining 'jaunting', like teleportation effects.
So breathing can have these main conditions:
Time in and out, holding and compressing of the air/gases in different areas of the body to gain different outcomes!

It has also been my experience that you really can 'Call up a wind' by breathing out and whistling in a certain way!

breath and it's uses are the key to many things.

so true...this is how it seems to work for me also.
