If you have been following Graham Hancocks and others work over the years, you
will be familiar with his theory something dramatic happened around the end of the
last ice age in a lost/hidden period of history. This is not new in the alternate
community and many speculate humanity is much older and has been on the planet
in various communities and civilisations for much longer. Just another possible
piece in our puzzle ?.........

LOST CIVILIZATION: The 15,000 year old ‘unknown chapter in human history’

21st Century Wire says…

Here’s another story that adds another piece to the jigsaw puzzle of our past.

Watch a video of this report here:

An extensive study of DNA evidence obtained from the bones and teeth of ancient
people who lived in Europe has revealed that a major, and at this point
unexplained, population shift occurred around 15,000 years ago.Local hunter-
gatherers were almost completely replaced by a group from another area during
the shift.Johannes Krause, one of the scientists involved, said that, “we uncovered
a completely unknown chapter of human history: a major population turnover at
the end of the last Ice Age.”

Adam Powell, another author of the report, says, “our model suggests that during
this period of climatic upheaval, the descendants of the hunter-gatherers who
survived through the last glacial maximum [Ice Age] were largely replaced by a
population from another source.”

In order to try and find out what could have caused this huge population shift,
researchers now need to construct a more comprehensive picture of European
genetics from this period. It is possible that we will never know what exactly caused
this shift.

A German professor has just discovered that ancient Babylonians were able to track
Jupiter in the skies 1,400 years before Europeans, who were previously credited
with being the first to do so.Interestingly, this discovery coincides with the analysis
of alternative researchers who have long pointed out that there is ample evidence
of vast human civilizations and lost histories from the same period.

How many other important events and discoveries have been lost to history?

Ancient Secrets: Babylonians Tracked Jupiter 1400 Years BEFORE Europeans Using Geometry

February 2, 2016 By Stuart Hooper 3 Comments
21st Century Wire says…

Stuff just keeps getting older.

Tablets discovered in Ancient Babylon, found in modern day Iraq and thought to have been
written between 350 and 50 BC, depict two intervals from when Jupiter first appears along
the horizon, calculating the planet’s position at 60 and 120 days.

Dr. Mathieu Ossendrijver, a professor of ancient science from Berlin, says the texts contain
geometrical calculations based on a trapezoid’s area and its “long” and “short” sides.

The Guardian reports that ‘the ancient astronomers also computed the time when Jupiter covers
half of the 60-day distance by partitioning the trapezoid into two smaller ones of equal area’.

Ossendrijver believes European scholars in Oxford and Paris previously credited with developing
such calculation in the 14th century were far behind their Babylonian colleagues:

“These computations predate the use of similar techniques by medieval European scholars by at least 14 centuries.”

This impressive feat accomplished by Babylonian astronomers could just be the very tip of the iceberg.

Some believe that an entire human civilization, from around 10,500BC, has been completely lost to
history. Moreover, scientists have recently uncovered evidence that could suggest there was once
ancient life on Mars.

What else might these ancient civilizations have known about?

DNA Offers Insights into European Hunter Gatherers

Posted By: Daryl WorthingtonPosted date: February 07, 2016in: Breaking NewsNo Comments

Scientists from the Max Planck Institute For the Science of Human History have
found evidence that a previously unknown major population shift took place in
Europe 14,500 years ago.Their findings come as part of a wide ranging study of
early human hunter-gatherer DNA. The results have offered several valuable
insights into prehistoric European demography, from the initial human dispersal
from Africa into Asia and Europe, to the consequences of the last Ice Age.

The hitherto unheard of European population shift occurred as the last Ice Age was
coming to an end. “During this period of drastic warming, it looks like the European
hunter-gatherers were largely replaced by a population from a different maternal
source,” explained Adam Powell, a senior author of the study at the MPI in Jena; in
a press release published by the institute. The team’s results have the potential to
drastically change the understanding of the demography of early human hunter-
gatherers. “Our modeling of ancient European hunter-gatherers demonstrates that
their demography was likely far more complicated than previously assumed.” said
Dr. Powell.

Powell and colleagues’ surprising discovery was made as part of a broader study
into early European population dynamics. It is a subject which is highly
controversial, in large part thanks to the lack of genetic information available on
the period. In particular, the timing and number of human dispersals out of Africa is
subject to intense debate.

The basis of the team’s study was the DNA of 35 modern human hunter gatherers,
spanning a period of 28,000 years of human prehistory. The 35 hunter gatherers
lived across Europe, with samples taken from Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, the
Czech Republic and Romania. The oldest was alive 35,000 years ago, the youngest
7,000 years ago.

Using molecular and bioinformatic techniques, the team was able to completely
reconstruct the inherited mitochondrial DNA of the ancient hunter-gatherers.
Mitochondrial DNA can be used to gain insights into patterns of maternal ancestry.
Crucially, the team discovered that the DNA of three hunter-gatherers who lived in
what is today France and Belgium before the coldest point of the last Ice Age, was
part of haplogroup M. Essentially absent from modern Europeans, haplogroup M is
extremely common in Native Americans, Asians and Australasian populations.

“I couldn’t believe it. The first time I got this result I thought it must be a mistake,
because in contemporary Europeans haplogroup M is effectively absent, but is
found at high frequency in modern Asians, Australians and Native American
populations.” said Cosimo Posth of Tübingen University, the lead author of the
study, in the MPI press release.

The team believes that the haplogroup M DNA group was lost from European
populations during the last Ice Age. When the Late Glacial Maximum began, hunter-
gatherer populations migrated to southern Europe to avoid the harshest conditions.
The authors of the study suggest that haplogroup M disappeared as a result of the
massive reduction in population size.

The extensive mitochondrial DNA gathered by the team also adds substantial
weight to the argument that a single dispersal of non-European populations out of
of Africa took place, and offers a date for when this occurred. Taking advantage of
the radio carbon dated mitochondrial DNA, they managed to precisely date the
origins of two non-African DNA types to around 50,000 years ago.

“This date estimate supports a late and rapid dispersal of all non-African
populations carrying both M and N haplogroups, not only across Asia but also into
Europe,” explained Johannes Krause, director at the MPI for the Science of Human
History.Future study of ancient hunter-gatherer DNA could shed even more light on
this fascinating part of the origins of European history. In particular, the team want
to better understand the genetic consequences of the Late Glacial Maximum, and
identify the source of the later incoming hunter-gatherer population.

DNA discovery unearths 'unknown chapter in human history'

A major and unexplained population shift occurred in Europe around
15,000 years ago when local hunter-gatherers were almost completely
replaced by a group from another area, scientists researching our
ancestors' genetics have discovered. The findings were made after the
extensive study of DNA evidence obtained from the bones and teeth of
ancient people who lived in Europe during from the Late Pleistocene to
the early Holocene, a period of roughly 30,000 years. While attempting
to find more genetic data from this time period, researchers from the
Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Germany
made an unexpected discovery. The Institute's Johannes Krause said:
"We uncovered a completely unknown chapter of human history: a
major population turnover at the end of the last Ice Age."

To try and piece together the facts of this 'lost period' the team analysed
the mitochondrial genomes of 35 hunter-gatherers who lived in Italy,
Germany, Belgium, France, the Czech Republic and Romania, from
around 35,000 to 7,000 years ago.Three of these 35 people had DNA that
belonged to 'haplogroup M', meaning they all were part of a single line of
descent. This haplogroup is almost completely absent in modern Europeans,
but it's very common among modern Asian, Australasian and Native
American populations.

The absence of this haplogroup in places other than these led scientists to
believe that non-African people dispersed gradually throughout history to
colonise other parts of the world. However, the discovery that this haplogroup
existed in Europe relatively recently instead suggests that all non-Africans
quickly dispered from a single group at a specific time, which scientists believe
occurred around 50,000 years ago.

This is a major discovery in itself, but the researchers' biggest surprise came
when they found evidence that there was a major population turnover in Europe
around 14,500 years ago, as the last Ice Age ended and the world began to warm.
As Adam Powell, another Max Planck Institute author explained: "Our model
suggests that during this period of climatic upheaval, the descendants of the
hunter-gatherers who survived through the last glacial maximum [Ice Age] were
largely replaced by a population from another source."

The next step for the researchers is to construct a more comprehensive picture of
European genetics from this period, in order to find out what could have caused
this huge population change.

years later, rewriting the history books.

Newly translated ancient tablets show that ancient Babylonian astronomers used
unexpectedly advanced geometry to understand the planets. The find, described on
Thursday in the journal Science, reveals that Babylonians tracked Jupiter by
calculating the areas of trapezoids they used to symbolize the planet’s motion
across the sky. This geometrical trick rewrites the history books: The technique was
thought to have originated in England more than a millennium later.

The study also fills in crucial gaps, says Niek Veldhuis of the University of California,
Berkeley, who wasn’t involved with the study, since it “finally connects Babylonian
mathematical astronomy with geometrical mathematics”—a missing link that has
eluded scholars for more than a century.

The Right Angle

Researchers have long known that the Babylonians, who lived in what is now
Iraq, had considerable mathematical skill: They successfully approximated the
square root of 2 and understood the Pythagorean theorem nearly 4,000 years
ago—more than a millennium before Pythagoras was born. They were also talented
astronomers, maintaining nightly catalogs detailed enough to record the passage
of Halley’s comet. Babylonians regularly used arithmetic to boost their astronomical
predictions. But no one had ever found a Babylonian astronomical calculation that
leveraged their impressive knowledge of pure geometry, until Mathieu Ossendrijver
of Germany’s Humboldt University of Berlin spent 13 years deciphering what he
described as a “small bunch of four weird trapezoid computations” between 2,000
and 2,400 years old.

Ossendrijver was the first to notice that the tablets—stored in the British Museum
since the 1880s—had something to do with the planet Jupiter. However, they didn’t
make much sense without knowing how the Babylonians encoded aspects of Jupiter’s
motion, such as its appearances on the horizon.

Ossendrijver eventually found an undeciphered, remarkably intact tablet in the
museum’s vast collections that described a full cycle of Jupiter’s journey through
the sky, allowing him to carefully reconstruct what the other tablets actually meant.

His translations reveal that Babylonian astronomers used trapezoids to abstractly
represent speed, time, and position. To find how far Jupiter moved between two
different sightings, for instance, they would measure its apparent speed across the
sky during each sighting, average them, and then multiply the average speed by
the time between sightings. The tablets explicitly link this formula to calculating the
area of a trapezoid, with sides representing the speeds and elapsed time.

A Top-Shelf Find

The Babylonians’ techniques outshine those used by contemporary Greek and
Egyptian astronomers—and shockingly mirror the mean speed theorem, a
mathematical description of motion developed by a 14th-century English group
known as the Oxford Calculators. And the findings probably represent the tip of
a mathematical iceberg. “There are thousands of tablets in various museums
that were never translated,” says Ossendrijver, “and often we can translate a
tablet but don’t understand what is going on until much later.”

Ossendrijver’s newly deciphered tablet also heartens researchers after years of war
and the rise of ISIS have damaged or destroyed much of Iraq’s archaeological heritage.
“That such an important, and almost completely preserved, example can now be added
to the corpus...speaks volumes about the untold treasures that may still be found in the
drawers of the British Museum and other such collections,” says Veldhuis.

Such a find also speaks to the human spirit of discovery—both of the ancient astronomers
who gazed at the heavens, and the modern researchers who seek to reconstruct their
understanding of the cosmos.
