Over on another website I just read the following in response to a small (fun) piece about faeries.
Hmmm so that's why Comet won't go in the back yard any more.. Seriously I use to play fetch with the frizzbie in the back yard for about a year then for some unknown reason, well unknown to me, he refused to fetch it if it went into certain parts of the yard. Slowly the area he would fetch it in got smaller and smaller.
I would throw it and then have to go get it myself he would go so far stop and just stare at where it was. If I picked him up and went towards the frizzbie he would growl and snarl at me, and if I put him down he would run back to his "safe" area and watch me. Even food wont get him in there.
Now he wont even venture in the back apart for the first about 10 ft . He will look from the porch only.. If i go outside he follows me as soon as I go into the back he stops and waits for me or goes back inside.
Can anyone shed any light, or know of similar?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmS5pVEZHzg maybe it is something like this? possibly from next door. Could be termites or a previous bad experience/pain occurred in a particular spot in the yard.

It's a puzzle because the opening paragraph suggests there were multiple areas the dog became fearful of. Then the area the dog found acceptable steadily shrunk. I think I need to find out more about the general dog temprament and the location and size of the property, rural, urban etc.
When I initially read the description it fitted a lot of dog behaviour with bigfoot/alien encounters. (shrug).

Here is more information direct from owner when I gave the little feedback garnered so far.
No he has never been hurt in that area, as you say the area just gets bigger.
We don't have termites in NZ just borer lol
We live in rural and have a 1/2 acre section.
As far as I know there is no radiation. We had a smart meter recently put in by the power company but he goes in that part of the section as its on the opposite side of the house we have wi-fi inside and he will lie under the table it is sitting on.
The only thing that has happened is our elderly neighbour on that side died in his house. He use to live alone there. His family spread his ashes down the bottom of his section, and the people that brought the house (which was run down) had the section blessed and they then pulled the house down and rebuilt and re-landscaped the whole back yard.
Prior to all that happening Comet just wouldn't go near the fence on that side (it was a wire mesh fence) if the ball or frizbee went by the the fence I had to get it.
Another strange incident also happened down there after his ashes where spread there. Our grand daughter and my daughter (her mum) were staying with us for a while and one day her mum found her sitting down by the fence down (under a grape vine that use to grow on that fence line, and seem to be talking to herself, looking into that the neighbouring section, so my daughter went down to her and said "Who are you talking to/" and she said "sit down mummy and talk to my friend". My daughter said where is your friend?" and she pointed into the net door neighbours section and said "there he is." She said nobody was there and it freaked her out so she got my grand daughter (who was 3 at the time) and brought her inside.
When Comet's behaviour got stranger and stranger my wife and I joked about how Ivan must have moved from his place to our back section.

Could I nominate this thread for the 'Hall of Fame' as it has been so successful? Do we even have a 'Hall of Fame'? :sun:
Seriously though, I think the guy has answered his own queries even if he cannot understand or accept what he himself has revealed. It seesm we had a straggler, one who did not want to depart.
