A lot of people here in the uk are talking about the gulf stream or atlantic conveyer failing which is responsible for these last two harsh winters . I suppose all of that oil from the gulf of mexico definately didnt help !
Another version i heard today was that its not the gulf stream but the jet stream has moved .
Does anyone know if there is any truth to these rumours ?
Cheers

I'll never forget one day on Fox news, in the midst of a global warming discussion, a prominent republican politician leans forward and says,"I don't need a weatherman to tell me about the weather!" To that man: Yes sir, you do. It's called meteorology, and due to its complex subject matter, people study it for many years before they ever get on tv and point to a green screen :) A harsh winter it is thusfar..

yeah and Bob Dylan said something like I don't need a weatherman to tell me which way the wind blows............sounds like that guy was being a wise guy. (especially when you feel you are controlling events including the weather!)

Experts say this type of iceberg calving happens from time to time and these are not record large icebergs.
This area of water had been kept clear because of the glacier, said Steve Rintoul, a leading climate expert. With part of the glacier gone, the area could fill with sea ice, which would disrupt the sinking ability of the dense and cold water.
This sinking water is what spills into ocean basins and feeds the global ocean currents with oxygen, Rintoul explained.
As there are only a few areas in the world where this occurs, a slowing of the process would mean less oxygen supplied into the deep currents that feed the oceans.

Scientists say a vast iceberg weighing billions of tonnes which broke off the Antarctic continent this month poses a potential threat to the circulation of the world's oceans.
They say the 2,500 square kilometre iceberg, floating south of Australia, could block an area that produces a quarter of the world's dense and very cold seawater, known as bottom water.
This water drives ocean currents, and scientists say weather patterns could be affected in decades to come...

well no worries, no climate changes happening for decades... ;)

It's the only career where they teach you HOW to be wrong and still come out looking good.
Just another form of acting.

There is a French meteorological diagram of what the jet stream looked like at time

Also When the BP Oil spill spued all that oil out into the Gulf I got to thinking about how many litres of water the Gulf of Mexico would be evaporating. Well a thin coat of oil will stop water evaporation. Next thing you know Russia does not have any rain. All that evaporation not happening from the very hot Gulf of Mexico must of effected someone.
Looks like a mini ice age is on its way too. Once that current switches round and then flows round the cape of good hope then thats when the big freeze will really kick into effect.

I agree with you chelmostef, I went down to FL for vacation when the spill happened and it was hotter then the devil's ass....lol.
But on a more serious note.....I don't think we're going into an ice age, I thinks we are already in the beginning stages, I kept saying to people about 8 months ago "why do they keep playing the movie The Day After Tomorrow so much", here in the US was being played almost everyday for about 2 months straight. Well I guess that they really have to tell you what they are going to do before they do it, cause here it is!!!
