"New Jersey Senator Michael Doherty (R-Warren, Hunterdon) announced today that he has introduced three pieces of legislation drafted to eliminate any immunity TSA agents might enjoy when violating New Jersey law during unnecessary and invasive airport screenings:

“For more than a month now, the TSA has quite literally stuck their finger in the eye of law-abiding American citizens while trampling on their constitutionally guaranteed liberties,” Doherty stated. “We call upon every state legislature in our great country to immediately act to put our federal government on notice that the dignity of our citizens shall not be the cost of a failed federal open border policy.”

The following bills were introduced:

* Makes certain body searches third degree crime of sexual assault under certain circumstances. View as PDF.
* Prohibits use of body imaging scanners to screen passengers and airline crew members. View as PDF.
* Specifies that certain images generated by body scans violate State statutes, prohibiting invasion of privacy, pornography, and endangerment of child welfare under certain circumstances. View as PDF.

“All of these bills remove any claim that TSA agents are immune to any state statutes that they violate when searching passengers or crew,” Doherty concluded. “If we don’t take strong action against these violations, where will it lead? Today planes, tomorrow trains and buses, what then? Will the drive to the market be viewed as a ‘privilege,’ the walk to church? Will we stand upon the slippery slope of paranoia that leads to invasive searches becoming a way of daily life, or say ‘No’ and defend our rights to privacy now while we still have them.”

Senator Doherty has launched an online petition to support his efforts to stop invasive TSA screening procedures at http://www.stopthetsa.org."

No, internet or e-mail petitions are not valid. There is no way of validating who's name has been added or if they are even of legal age. It is common for people to add the names of their neighbors, spouses, and children which would be forgery, making government officials not give them much credence. If an e-mail petition is asking for information to validate who you are, they become a security risk seeing that they are being forwarded on and on to hundreds or thousands of people you have never heard of and could potentially wind up in the hands of a spammer or worse. Then, petitions usually ask people to forward the message to the proper government official when the names reach a certain number. However, most people just keep adding their names and forwarding it on, never stopping to check which official it should be forwarded to. In the end, the same petition e-mail floats around for years and years, well past the time the bill was being considered by any public official, still being forwarded to everyone on your list. I am still getting petitions in my mail box that I had already received four years ago. I always look into the information in any petition I have been forwarded. Nine out of ten times, it is inaccurate to downright false. People should always gather the facts on their own before making a stand. Then, when you do, don't forward your stand away. If it turns out you really believe in the cause, then look up the e-mail or phone number to your local, state, or federal representatives and send them your own thoughts directly. If you do, they might actually count for something.

Even it if turned out that there were no personal security issues here it still seems like a great way to get yourself on some kind of watch list.

Sorry, but federal law trumps local laws. Still, New Jersey is right in standing up for its citizens. I hope more states follow suits and reassert some authority ceded to los federales.

I wasn't slamming your posting of this article. We need to get more of this kind of positive action and reaction! I just wanted to help people be aware of the dangers of submitting your personal info, and also the fact that E-Petitions are not legally valid anyway.

But it was a good newsworthy find!

This is not a done deal and won't be. Good idea, but he'll have little support to actually make it law.

You cannot just mentally rally around the man by clicking buttons on the internet., you have to physically rally around him. I know people who understand that and go our and do those physically required things. Ie GET INVOLVED. Writing letters to the right people, organizing protests, attending protests, bringing contrary people, interests and corporations into the situation - whatever it takes.

Those situations sometimes -Do- end up working out well, it is just, well... if you think "they" are taking our life bits away, then you have to physically involve your life in stopping it.

Rather simple really.

Deposit your unwanted effluent, or step away from the receptacle.

As a case in point, this thing in Jersey, this could take two-three years of haggling and in fighting to get it done..or NOT done. ie fail, in the end. Like someone telling you, "just hang on for a second, while I get this thing to work...." and you end up standing there for hours, when you could be off doing something else that actually IS effective.

Meaning, everyone pays attention to this little bit in Jersey (a real known paragon of governmental justice and clarity -NOT). Jersey is the same place this 'connected' bust went down involving slaves and Rabbi's quite recently, is it not?

so it could simply be a distraction. The only way to figure that out soonest is for people in the area to get involved.

So you find yourself, maybe, two years after this current moment...waiting for a 'decision' on this point, with still nothing happening. That's the scenario. So, what you gonna do, sit there and wait for the situation to resolve itself, hanging, like some sort of chad....waiting for something to maybe happen? All of America waiting for some decision of a potential for the maybe existence of a law, that might appear two years from now, that had the guts ripped out of it so it does nothing?? This is largely the history of all the laws passed in congress over the past years, a situation that it has evolved into, this problematic congressional/senate condition.

No, no, no.

Multiple directions of attack, on multiple fronts, bulldozing with only one direction -forward. Constant pressure on the pedal.

After all, that's exactly what they are doing to you.

If it is a distraction, push it, make it show it's face. Identify it soonest. If it is not, then...support it. Directly. Keep it moving, make it happen.

For example, bills in some governmental situations must be done in sequence. If it is real, or especially if it is fake (push it regardless, is the key thing), look for delays in the bill readings. Then, find out about bill readings being pushed ahead of the rest, for reasons of importance. Get the bill assigned into that level of importance by the correct people so it can be accelerated into the government system. Ie, follow all the rules and regs. Besides the bill itself. After all, the problem is happening now.... and multiple years passing with appeals, hold ups, conditions needing to be met, hoops to jump through..and then in the end..maybe gutted wording is all that passes. Getting directly involved allows you to see the thing for what it is, not what it might be.
