I know many have posted about the amazing benefits of coconut oil in the past but this just came through from NextWorldTV and is very interesting and deserves another mention in my opinion. Be sure and watch the 4 minute video below to hear what the good doc says about what they found out about cancers and coconut oil.

If You Ever Wind Up On A Desert Island, You Won't Have To Bring Any Medicines

With millions of Americans unable to maintain insurance payments, there has been a tremendous surge in interest in natural healing. Even those who are fairly well versed in alternative healing modalities are stunned to learn the latest on a very affordable oil that was used for thousands of years, before the anti-saturated fat campaigns wiped it from our consciousness: Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil has so many health benefits it's hard to know where to begin. This video features Bruce Fife, doctor of neuropathy and author of Coconut Oil Miracle, speaking about the staggering results of cancer research conducted over many decades, showing that mice exposed to cancer via carcinogens ALL got cancer, EXCEPT the ones who had been given coconut oil. It is a very potent anti-cancer remedy that every single person can take for pennies a day.

What is in coconut oil and why is it so powerful?

Coconut oil contains three medium chain fatty acids, lauric, caprylic, and myristic acid. The dominant one is lauric acid, which has potent anti-viral activity, and is in human breast milk. The human body converts lauric acid to a derivative called monolaurin (which can be purchased as a supplement) which is THE substance that protects infants from viral, bacterial, protozoal and other infections. Research done in the early 1980s showed that monolaurin also had a virucidal effects on RNA and DNA viruses, as well as bacteria, yeast and fungi.

Many emerging schools of research today posit that cancer and many other illnesses are fungal based, so maybe that is why coconut oil protects against cancer.

Coconut oil has been credited with the following:

Broad spectrum virucidal that debilitates viruses associated with flu, herpes, and more.

Kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, gum disease and cavities, pneumonia, and gonorrhea, and other diseases.
Kills fungi and yeasts that cause candidiasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, thrush, diaper rash, and other infections.
Expels or kills tapeworms, lice, giardia, and other parasites.
Provides a nutritional source of quick energy.
Boosts energy and endurance, enhancing physical and athletic performance.
Improves digestion and absorption of other nutrients including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.
Improves insulin secretion and utilization of blood glucose.
Relieves stress on pancreas and enzyme systems of the body.
Reduces symptoms associated with pancreatitis.
Helps relieve symptoms and reduce health risks associated with diabetes.
Reduces problems associated with malabsorption syndrome and cystic fibrosis.
Improves calcium and magnesium absorption and supports the development of strong bones and teeth.
Helps protect against osteoporosis.
Helps relieve symptoms associated with gallbladder disease.
Relieves symptoms associated with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and stomach ulcers.
Improves digestion and bowel function.
Relieves pain and irritation caused by hemorrhoids.
Reduces inflammation.
Supports tissue healing and repair.
Supports and aids immune system function.
Helps protect the body from breast, colon, and other cancers.
Is heart healthy; improves cholesterol ratio reducing risk of heart disease.
Protects arteries from injury that causes atherosclerosis and thus protects against heart disease.
Helps prevent periodontal disease and tooth decay.
Functions as a protective antioxidant.
Helps to protect the body from harmful free radicals that promote premature aging and degenerative disease.
Does not deplete the body's antioxidant reserves like other oils do.
Improves utilization of essential fatty acids and protects them from oxidation.
Helps relieve symptoms associated with chronic fatigue syndrome.
Relieves symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate enlargement).
Reduces epileptic seizures.
Helps protect against kidney disease and bladder infections.
Dissolves kidney stones.
Helps prevent liver disease.
Is lower in calories than all other fats.
Supports thyroid function.
Promotes loss of excess weight by increasing metabolic rate.
Is utilized by the body to produce energy in preference to being stored as body fat like other dietary fats.
Helps prevent obesity and overweight problems.
Applied topically helps to form a chemical barrier on the skin to ward of infection.
Reduces symptoms associated the psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis.
Supports the natural chemical balance of the skin.
Softens skin and helps relieve dryness and flaking.
Prevents wrinkles, sagging skin, and age spots.
Promotes healthy looking hair and complexion.
Provides protection from damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
Helps control dandruff.
Does not form harmful by-products when heated to normal cooking temperature like other vegetable oils do.
Has no harmful or discomforting side effects.
Is completely non-toxic to humans.

I have heard that heated coconut oil (which pretty much sums up all coconut oil on the shelves) raises cholesterol and should be taken minimally. Although raw and cold pressed like through a juicer doesn't have those detrimental effects. There have been several studies on this and all of them have been pretty conclusive. Best to make it yourself than buy over the counter.

“Spectrum Organic Virgin Coconut Oil: Unrefined Medium Heat” is expeller pressed.

Among the things I use it for are: oil pull (https://authoritynutrition.com/oil-pulling-coconut-oil/), in pasta and veggie dishes, quick stir fries and for kicks this morning I added a little to my black coffee. I also make organic coconut (https://nuts.com/driedfruit/coconut/organic-shredded.html), almond (https://nuts.com/nuts/almonds/organic.html) milk.

I've never seen anything for sale in the stores that wasn't labeled as raw cold pressed.

maybe it's just where I am?

for kicks this morning I added a little to my black coffee.

Coffee with a half stick of butter & a table spoon of coconut oil or MCT.... creamy delicious super food drink.

I use coconut oil for:

Home made deodorant:

1/2 cup coconut oil softened
1/4 cup raw shea butter
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder
plus I add in a few drops each of:
clove oil
frankincense
myrrh
lavender
peppermint
rose
Make a paste of the mixture and put into containers with lids.

Works wonderfully and no harmful ingredients to be concerned about.
And it smells good too.

I use Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar as a creme rinse. The ratio for medium length hair is - 1 oz to 16 oz (2c) water.

For face regimen, I have a spray bottle with Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar and filter water. Then apply Moringa Oil (http://greenvirginproducts.com/product-category/moringa/moringa-oil/) (100% Pure Certified Organic). Good stuff...

And believe me I'd never be a hand model lol, I've got long man hands. :) thank you, coconuts, for giving us your awesome sauce.

This is true of all fats and oils. The heating and processing destroy the electrical properties of the fats at a cellular level. Dr. Johanna Budwig's work (she was a protégé of the Nobel prize winning Dr. Otto Warburg) clearly explains how the cells of fatty acids communicate electrically with the cells of our body. Heat, light, and pressure are all the enemy of fats, and of all foods. There is a living essence, derived from the Sun, that enters our body and nourishes us. Processing foods renders this wonderful essence inert, even dangerous. Better said, the living essence disappears and what is left in it's absence is dangerous.

Further down the bunny rabbit hole, clean, raw fats/foods have a vibratory rate that sets the tone for good health. Processed foods vibrate at a rate that is anathema to a healthful existence. As with everything, it comes down to energy. :highfive:

And yes, really do use it for oil pulling. It will whiten teeth very well. Pull oil and occasionally empty a capsule of powdered charcoal and swish it around in the mouth, coating the teeth. Amazing results. The charcoal eats the tannins that stain teeth. Between the pulling and charcoal, no dentist's expensive treatments come close to the whitening ability of the natural approach.

Great thread. So glad to be part of such an intelligent, thoughtful, non-judgmental forum.

Coconut oil's "smoke point" is 350°F/175°C as long as you are cooking below that you'll be fine (most people cook below that temp).

only use two oils in my food preparation. The first, extra-virgin olive oil, is a better monounsaturated fat that works great as a salad dressing. However, it should not be used for cooking. Due to its chemical structure, heat makes it susceptible to oxidative damage. And polyunsaturated fats, which include common vegetable oils such as corn, soy, safflower, sunflower, and canola, are absolutely the worst oils to use in cooking . These omega-6 oils are highly susceptible to heat damage because of their double bonds. I strongly urge you to throw out those omega-6 vegetable oils in your cabinets.

Why?

Reason # 1: Most people believe that frying creates trans-fat. That is not the major problem, in my opinion. Although some are created, they are relatively minor. There are FAR more toxic chemicals produced by frying omega-6 oils than trans-fat.

Frying destroys the antioxidants in oil and as a result oxidizes the oil. This causes cross-linking, cyclization, double-bond shifts, fragmentation, and polymerization of oils that cause far more damage than trans-fat.

Reason # 2: Most of the vegetable oils are GMO. This would include over 90 percent of the soy, corn, and canola oils.

Reason # 3: Vegetable oils contribute to the overabundance of damaged omega-6 fats in your diet, which creates an imbalance in the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3. As you know from my extensive writing on this subject, I believe that excessive consumption of damaged omega-6 fats contributes to many health concerns.

They are all highly processed and consumed in amounts that are about 100 times more than our ancestors did a century ago. This causes them to distort the sensitive omega-6/omega-3 ratio that controls many delicate biochemical pathways, which results in accelerating many chronic degenerative diseases.

There is only one oil that is stable enough to resist mild heat-induced damage, while it also helps you promote heart health and even supports weight loss and thyroid function -- coconut oil.

So, whenever you need an oil to cook with, use coconut oil instead of butter, olive oil, vegetable oil, margarine, or any other type of oil called for in recipes. Even though I don't fully recommend frying foods, if you must fry, by all means use coconut oil -- it's your smartest choice.

[QUOTE] there may be two distinct issues here Target. Agree, cooking below the smoke point is much safer, however, any heat above that which kills enzymes (115?) hinders the ability of the free electrons to make the transfer. I'm not 100% on this, just something to study further.

We do cook with coconut oil at low temps. The results are quite good. A marinated chicken tender, coated in quinoa flour and spices, cooked lightly in coconut oil is delicious!

Yeah, I was mostly worried about damaged fats (can be really bad for you), but for an even HEALTHIER meal enzymes should be considered... absolutely...

enzymes are deactivated at a wet-heat temperature of 118 degrees Fahrenheit, and a dry-heat temperature of about 150 degrees. It is one of those happy designs of nature that foods and liquids at 117 degrees can be touched without pain, but liquids over 118 degrees will burn. Thus we have a built-in mechanism for determining whether or not the food we are eating still contains its enzyme content.

great point there.

Coconut oil mixed with some flavored stevia makes for a GREAT jelly replacement for your tea and biscuits (totaly sterio typing you here.. sorry.. haha) as long as it's cool enough for the coconut oil to stay mostly solid.

a high fat low sugar/carb diet will help correct some of those issues... sugar encourages really nasty microbes that produce a lot of acids and our bodies don't react well to acids (causes vascular issues among many other things).

Oh hey, Pro tip, for those with gum issues and are trying the oil pulling. Try soaking or leaving some threads of dental floss to soak in the coconut oil and the. Use them to floss with. It gets the oil into the tight spot and under the gum line.

I'm a dental assistant. I know these things. ;) jk. I know some things.

But anyway, I would never have suspected that coconut macaroons could actually help so many people with their bowels! (I made some myself rather than store bought ones. 3 days, like the comments claim, and sure enough, sucess!)

Loved that video palehorse, which brought back memories so thanks for sharing. I lived in Haiti for two years in the late 70s where coconut was plentiful and you could eat them straight from the tree, that is if you could get someone to shin up and get you one. They would use a machete very skilfully and cut a hole in the top (from memory there are three softer indents) so you could drink the water and then itwould be cut in half and you'd use a bit of the shell to scoop out coconut. The texture was very very soft, hence they were called "jelly nuts". The coconut milk described in the video was available everywhere, although the part on how to extract the oil was new to me. I also appreciated the massage element from the hard shell, especially with the emphasis now being on pain relieving fascia massage which, although it may seem faddy to some, has been a revelation for me after years of discomfort. Sadly many doctors are still unaware of the fascia "phenomenon".

While writing, and a little off topic, in Haiti mango trees grow wild, as do banana and plantain, thankfully for the Haitian people, and Haitian coffee is, imo, the best in the world. Unfortunately it's not easy to find in the UK.

Regarding the coconut oil, the hot extraction may or may not degrade a little bit the nutrients and antioxidants, I really don't know, but what I know, they don't use distillation to extract oil of coconut milk because it would need to heat up really high temps and that would absolutely degrade the quality of the oil, so slow cooking like in the video it may work well.. again I don't know. I always heard the cold extraction (cold-pressed to produce virgin coconut oil) is the ideal one but it produces less oil than hot extraction or other processes to extract the oil, so in commercial terms I think the methods used to extract may be one of these: "hot extraction, low-pressure extraction, chilling, freezing and thawing method, fermentation, centrifugation, enzymatic extraction and supercritical fluid carbon dioxide" as per this document:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8132276/

I was doing some research on coconut oil a while ago, I am really interested in doing some large batches to stock, something like go crazy doing coco oil for a week and storing. I just need to find that mental edge to jump into it haha
Coconut I can get here for as low as 5 Bath per coco, which is something like 0.13 Euro, of course I would have to buy a small truck full of it for that price, but it is relatively cheap product here, you can find it on every corner, it is like mangoes, papayas, bananas.

I am an absolute believer in the myriad of benefits of coconut oil. Not only do I put it on my skin but I literally eat it by the spoonful (probably sound gross, I know) every day and can almost feel my brain soaking it up. I would so love to have access to fresh coconuts from the tree as Miller describes. Out of all the magnificent foods provided to us I believe the wonderful coconut is one of the greatest. I have to admit buying a coconut in the shell from the US they are obviously quite old is disapointing, they are nothing as beautifully described by Miller.

I also wanted to thank you Miller, for sharing the lovely memories of the abundance and beauty of Haiti, all we seem to hear about it is what the political machine has done to destroy it. May it return to the paradise it was meant to be.
