I've suddenly come down with another attack of flu, very unusual for me. . . & my boss's wife insisted I get some of the above meds (spelling?) which she said were homeopathic. I did so, & took several of the vials, before checking casually online to see what the actual ingredients were. . . to my horror, I discovered that the original "base" source is the fermented heart & liver of a certain kind of DUCK!

I don't understand how this can be considered homeopathic?? Perhaps I am wrong in assuming that homeopathic meds are based on plants & minerals, not living organic substances?

In any case, I am revolted that there was no warning on the packaging that the contents were not acceptable to vegans or even vegetarians.. . my bad, as I
I just assumed the word "hepatic" would refer to liverwort, or whatever herb. . so please be warned, fellow vegans, that this is not a vegan substance & as such is not acceptable to me (I can only speak for myself)

PS I have had so many typos etc, it feels as if I am fighting something here. . . .hope I've corrected all!

I used Gelsemium for flu symptoms.

Homeopathy is a little bit of poison or allergens, as opposed to a little bit of pathogens used by Allopathy.

Liver and heart sound nutritious, I'm not familiar with those being used, as I would typically agree with you about the treatments being vegetable based. Sounds more like a supplement than homeopathy.

Of course Oscilllococcinum is a homeopathic remedy.

You can make homeopathic remedies out of everything that exist:
- minerals
- plants
- animals and humans (such as: lac humanum, carcinosinum, lac caninum, tuberculinum...)
- crystals
- energy (x-ray, positronum)
- ideas and thoughts

What it turns into a homeopathic remedy is the process of titruating and homeopathic potentiation across severall steps of dilution.

We are using many homeopathic remedies that are made from animals. And even from humans (see above).

I had lots of flus in the 1990's until I discovered Oscillococcinum. Usually a flu would last about a week, but if I felt a flu coming on in the evening, I would take within a few hours and the next day would wake up feeling a little week and tired but fully normal by evening after taking the day easy.

For Oscillococcinum to work , you must take it at the onset of the flu.

The amount of duck organs in a dose of anything homeopathic is about non existent. Basically, one set of organs was used for all the homeopathic Oscillococcinum every ingested . I have mostly been vegetarian, but I don't have a problem with this.

"Hepatic" definitely means something to do with liver specifically. Sorry to hearyour ordeal; if it is any consolation, a ferment started from a starting material, contains pretty much none of the original material - it is the ferment that is used, and that is created by fungi and bacteria - which are not animal.

Keep in mind any fresh herb is a "living organic substance" - the cells are still alive (unless dried, or essential oils extracted), whereas with meat the cells are always dead - just a terminology clarification, I like to point those out :) sorry, its my nature.

My last flu was alleviated by an excellent all vegetable garlic and onion, "chicken" soup (artificial chicken flavour that was vegan), with a few peppercorns thrown in. Of course it was the onion and garlic that was the main thing. It didn't "cure" me but it sure made me feel better for several hours after eating it. Warmed me up, and cleared my congestion, and got me some needed fluids. 12 cloves of garlic and two onions, and whatever other veggies you want to throw in.

Feel better!

Thanks for the replies & clarifications! In future I'll be going with garlic again (which I love) but have always been concerned not to offend (or knock horizontal) with my garlic dragon breath :)

Very interesting and thanks for the warning, kirolak. My mother used to swear on it (meaning totally recomended it) and it seems to became very popular substance all of a sudden against flue. I suspect this to be another way to put substances in people's bodies without notifying them exactly what's inside, isn't that the world around us? So it's worthwhile letting us know and the objection you experience when writing this only serves to confirms. Blessings. Limor
