With a judge's round springing Australia into a virtually unassailable lead the people voted the Ukraine's entry to finish as the winner.here are the lyrics of the song about the tarters treatment in Crimea being expelled from the homeland.
When strangers are coming
They come to your house
They kill you all
And say
We’re not guilty
Not guilty

Where is your mind?
Humanity cries
You think you are gods
But everyone dies
Don’t swallow my soul
Our souls

I couldn’t spend my youth there
Because you took away my peace
I couldn’t spend my youth there
Because you took away my peace

We could build a future
Where people are free
To live and love
The happiest time

Where is your heart?
Humanity rise
You think you are gods
But everyone dies
Don’t swallow my soul
Our souls

I couldn’t spend my youth there
Because you took away my peace
I couldn’t spend my youth there
Because you took away my peace

This is not an anti Russion song, but it is a song against each kind of war, agression, occupation - regardless who is doing it.
Also it is a well done song, good composition, presented in a honest and credibly way. Also this story is a very personal story about her own grandmother - and that could be felt.

Jamala made it very clear, that she wishes every one (including the Russions) peace and love.
She made wordly that statement after she won the show.

Every nation has its own collective ego and distorts history to strengthen its identity. Same thing with the Tatars of Ukraine who somehow managed to gain popularity through the circus of Eurovision.

What really happened, as modern historians say, is that the Ukrainian people bravely resisted the Nazi during WW2, but not all of them. A part of them surrendered and actually sided and fought with the German. Those were Tatars who . The infamous Russian dictator Stalin, didn't deport them violently, but moved them out of Crimea to protect them, because they were considered traitors in Ukraine and they weren't safe by the local population anymore. This is Refat Chubarov, the Tatars' leader, still rocking the nazi salute today.

As in every national history, there are many sides to a story, most of them subjective. The least we can do here, is have a spherical knowledge of the situation and not get easily brainwashed by the cheesy and commercial victimization stories.

There is some truth in that the decision on the winner of Eurovision can be somewhat political.

But for Will and me, we LOVED our Australian contestant - and she should have been the winner!!

Take a look and see if you agree:

Yes what would we do without our yearly dose of Eurovision??

Its a pity politics has to raise its ugly head.

But lets think about another amazing performer - the amazing, the unstoppable

CONCHITA!!!

Sounds like appropriate lyrics for a Palestinian entry, particularly in light of the 68th anniversary of the Nakba (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakba_Day) two days ago.

@Callista

yes the Austrailian represenative was very good but she's not exactly Australian (and since when does Australia have something to do with Europe?)-

the Austrian contestant, well, we've already had that before: Israel's entry a few yrs. ago (a transexual)- Austria's entry was nothing new-

so what do we have here?- an Australian entry into the Eurovision song contest even though Australia doesn't exactly belong to Europe (or did I miss something somewhere?) + (yet again) a transvestite/transsexual representing a whole country (as if normal people are not good enough to represent a country)-

look, we all need to have tolerance for abberations but when the abberation seems to become the norm/representative I think we need to rethink some things...

and the world isn't "fornicated up"?- you tell me-
