I don't think it's all that strange that Brazil this week determined that it only recognizes the 1967 boundaries set out between Israel and Palestine and said so quite clearly in the international press, after all, Brazil is becoming quite a prominent nation in the world lately.

What raised my eyebrows is that two days later Argentina came out with the exact same statement, as did Uruguay.

What does this mean?

That the South American nations are noticing a little crack in the power of Israel and US as this would never would have been said a couple of years ago, even if they all thought it. I think they are trying to create an even stronger Mercosur with member nations banding together with one voice. And they're not alone. Accoeding to the BBC, there are 100 nations in the world that have the same opinion, which is beginning to put Israel under somewhat of a strain.

It should be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Steve what it means is that South America is finally stepping forward and united, the countries in South America are truly a force to be reckoned with. I am sure you are aware that in recent years there has been a so-called shift to the left. Actually that is FAKE - the facts are that the countries are waking up to their own power and it is convenient for extreme right-wing ideologues in the US to characterize them as "left-wing." I'll go so far as to say that those left/right paradigms are breaking apart - and South America is one of the prime examples of that. The countries have forged agreements across borders amongst themselves with islands that continue to hold onto their relationships with the US (Columbia) and to less of an extent, Chile and Argentina. But as the countries 'come on line' as true international partners in their own right, less beholden to the World Bank and the IMF, they are a force to be reckoned with economically, politically - and yes, due to new alliances, militarily. A factor not to be underestimated is their large indigenous populations. These people are very aware of their history, particularly since the brutal colonialization by the Spanish Conquistadors. and are fiercely proud of their cultures and traditions. They may NOT be disposed to simply rolling over to the same-old-same old dictates by old rich white (sorry Steve!) men. Push back has started. The new paradigm is emerging. The old order is on its way out, there is no way they can preserve their dominance, and thank goodness - it is high time someone else had a crack at providing world leadership! When the economy of the US falls to the ground - and it will - the Empire will have expired. There are others waiting, and they have been there for thousands of years - to step into the breach!

Good. The more the world awakens, the less Israel can do about it. The less they can do about it, the more power they lose!

Hi folks.

I believe that somethings are related into this discussion;

a) Brazil and mercosur are trying to be out of the economics problems that are runing in US and Europe. To say yes to the muslings means to assure access to huge market, that can easily consume what South americam countries can produce. In the opposite side, Israel never was a significant economic partner for us;
b) Wikileaks some days before it, showed what US governement thinks about terrorism in here. For them we are a bunch of cucarachas that does not know what is happening here. The metter is that saying yes to Palestin, we almost assure that we wil never suffer terrorists acts. Simple like that, and Brazil is aware that this can be much more effective to keep peace in the region than voting against Iran, for example. Someone has to take in account the in the near future we will have a world cup and olympics games in the region. Makes perfect sense to recognise Palestin and avoid terrorism. Meaning South american Countries knows exactly what is going down here;
c) Brazil is much more aligned to the other BRICīs (Russia, India and China) than to US, Israel and UK. To recognise Palestin is much more compatible with one can expect from BRICīs. I canīt simply imagine one BRIC saying that Palestin has not the right to be a State/Government, and that Israel is right.
d) I agree to Steve. the more powerfull you get more room you need. It seems that our Countries are really trying to test how big is the room?

Namaste

Brazil is fast becoming a strong influence. Great place to park some money. Vast oil fields off the coast. HRT Oil & Gas, and Petrobras are good investments. Sao Paulo, with it's 20M people, is booming. Their mortgage and building industry is about to go crazy. Agriculture, farming, dairy, cattle, all great investments.

S. America is poised to become a dominant world power, yes.
