Yeah, unfortunately our own luminous celestial body is losing it's luster and appears to be growing a bit dimmer. But, hey, it's tough to keep up with the Kardashians.

:sun:

Did any one else notice that the pictures on the NASA site are from three days ago according to the dates on the corners of the picture.

In the [rather sensationally titled!] Daily Express article (http://www.express.co.uk/news/science/674234/Is-the-sun-DISINTEGRATING-NASA-spots-monster-hole-open-up-on-our-star) quoted in post #1, it states

The remarkable footage was captured by the US space agency's Solar Dynamics Observatory between May 17 and 19.

I believe the same large coronal hole was mentioned a few days earlier, on 14 May, by Ben Davidson (Suspicious Observers, always highly recommended) in his daily video here:

The title of that article in the op is what I'd call honest-to-goodness fear porn.... absurd!

Here's what the sun looks like now...

Coronal holes come and go... It seems that their presence on our Earth-facing side may affect earth in several ways i.e. earthquakes, tides, altering the jet stream, causing bizzare storms here on the ground, solar wind plasma making auroras... but I don't think that the sun is self-destructing.
