In this broadcast Jan Irvin (GnosticMedia) and Dr. Hans Utter discuss the secret history of FM Radio.
They talk about its developers, its various ties, its influence on the counter culture, the introduction of rock and roll music, how FM Radio`s been used as an experimental medium also -how it has been (or being) used to socially engineer its listeners, among other things.
Excerpts and a few quotes from the first part (with some links):
-Radio is so much tied in with our modern world and our modern technological environment
-How we see ourselves, how we experience time and space is so much affected by these particular inventions. Radio was the first major collective media broadcasting format and allowed for the first mass presentation of ideas, media information, advertising, propaganda etc. that presented both a lot of potential (and a lot of that potential has been realized in a negative way) but also helped to continue the dissociative process between ourselves, our local families or communities and things like that.
-This idea of not only doing demographic research but to construct and shape the audience through programming (radio programming (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_programming)).
-FM Radio with its inception as a major force in the public consciousness didn`t really begin until the early 1960s. Prior to that it had been reserved for educational programming, foreign language programming etc. The fact is that FM Radio itself developed out of the counter culture and was really an underground movement that can be looked upon as an experiment.
«My pet theory about the `60s is that there is a sinister plot behind it... The lessons learnt in the `60s about merchandising stupidity to the American public on a large scale have been used over and over again since that time», Frank Zappa (1986).
