View Full Version : Stranger Things on Netflix Hints that Stranger Things have actually happened (SPOILERS)

So I just finished watching a great little series on Netflix called "Stranger Things". If you haven't seen the series and like paranormal/scifi/suspense/thriller stuff I recommend you stop reading now and watch the show first! It will fly by!
Anyway, according to one thing I read, the writers wanted to base the show around a government laboratory based in a water location but ended up having to move to a land based filming location. The entire show seems to be inspired by a real life conspiracy known as the Montauk Project in New York back in the 1980's (the show is set in the 80's as well). Just as in the series, the original conspiracy revolves around government research into parapsychology, MKUltra, and quantum physics. The real life conspiracy includes the allegation that children were abducted (as is depicted in the show) and that the government was successful at opening a portal to alternate dimensions including making time travel possible. I have decide to purchase the first book in a series of books from someone claiming to have been part of the project. Of course he has officially been discredited but I'm curious if anyone is familiar with the conspiracy and it's ties to the netflix series.

It seems many movies and TV programs about 'out there' subject matter are born of some semblance of reality.
And yes, this is a very good show. Can't wait for season 2.

I Am is a GREAT documentary on Netflix as well. It is about the creator of Ace Ventura having a concussion and coming to grips with what is really important in this life.
Sense8 is weird as all heck, but very beautiful in concept if understood properly. It is about 8 individuals across the world who are all connected in their minds such that they see, feel, and understand each other. All their skills, all their fears, all of them together as one entity across space and time fighting against those who will not allow them to live freely.
I do not have netflix, but I will have to check out Stranger Things. Thank you for the tip.

The series sure seems to be based on Montauk, and MJ-12. If you read the Montauk books by Peter Moon, the similarities will leap out at you.
As well, there is a 1956 movie called "Forbidden Planet", which rumor says is also based on the Montauk monster that shows up in "Stranger Things".

Me and my wife binge watched it. I was blown away by some of the stuff they were alluding to.
Entertaining, it was like a combination of "Firestarter" and "Stand by Me".
It's basically the kids from "stand by me" running into Drew Berrymore from "Firestarter" and they hide her in their house and then they all go out in search of the Dead Body on the railroad tracks together.
The whole series felt more like a Steven King series than any series I have seen that was based on an actual Steven King book.
Pretty cool.

If you hadn't seen, Steven King says he's a big fan of the show and sees in it himself a story that is worthy of his own storytelling. I can't remember his exact words but basically he said the show was something EXACTLY like it came out of his brain. :)

WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT WATCHED THE SERIES
So here is a question for folks who have seen the series.
At the end, we have our heroine fighting the monster from the alternate earth in a classroom in the local school I believe.
There is a moment when the little girl heroine stands in front of the monster she has pinned up against the chalkboard.
In this moment the little girl heroine has a reaction of surprise and disgust when she moves her arm and hand and the monster moves it's own in exactly the same fashion.
Now here is the question.
Was this monster a manifestation of the little girl heroine in the shadow earth?
This was what I got from my viewing, and I expected the little girl heroine to die when she killed the monster from the shadow earth being as they were probably linked somehow, but there is a scene at the end where the sherriff is dropping off food near a air pipe in the woods. This air pipe is often associated with survival type bomb shelters.
So is this an underground bomb shelter? And if the sherrif is dropping off food, does that mean that our little girl heroine is still alive?

If the series is based on the Montauk monster, then yes, the monster is her/hers/herself, and my assumption, a side effect of messing with abilities that ought not to be messed with until the spirit we are, says it's time. The forcing of the abilities, by rape, murder, torture, overwhelming fear making tiny children kill puppies, kittens, other children... It is satanic. And involuntary on the part of children forced to commit satanic acts. It is almost as if the law that governs the birth of these abilities, the corruption of the innocent to create these abilities, must balance the scales with a monstrous manifestation.
The girl chose to join/absorb the monster out of love for those who gave her love, so I think we'll see her again.
The above is just my .02. Peter Moon had no opinion/theory on what created the Montauk monster or what happened to it afterwards...

To support your question, the girl did claim that she was responsible for the monster so perhaps she knows she created it or that it was her and perhaps that's why she knew she could defeat it. I did kind of question the Sheriff leaving the eggo's as being he believed the girl could still come and go from the upside down. Perhaps she is there now and he leaves her things she enjoyed so she can come snatch them from time to time. I never assumed that she was alive in the physical world anymore but it is interesting to consider.
A buddy and I got discussing whether the creature was inconsistent toward the end of the movie. To make a long discussion short, we were discussing how the creature is able to come and go from our world. It seems to me it requires blood. Blood either opens a portal for it or allows it to open a portal. In the case of Will I don't recall seeing him bleeding but he did crash his bike so we can maybe assume that one. Then of course Barbara cut her hand and opened the portal, and later the bleeding deer opened a portal and of course the teens used blood to open the portal and draw it in. This led to two questions, was the first portal created by blood or was it crated by energy? Did the creature come and go from the portal at the lab freely and if not, why? My friend remembers a scene at the very beginning where the creature is in the lab and jumps back into the portal but I don't remember that. We also discussed the portals only stay open for a short time. Perhaps the lab found a way to keep the portal open with energy/power. However, my friend thought the portals were inconsistent in that the portal for the deer (lots of blood) was only open a short time while the portal Will was open even the next day when the government came to research. Thoughts on the portals and how they are supposed to work in this world?

I'm a little confused about the authors Peter Moon and Preston Nichols. if I understand it, Preston Nichols was the man who supposedly was actually involved in the project and started to remember pieces of it through repressed memories. Seems there are a series of books by him on it. It also seems a series of more "fictionalized" books from Peter Moon came out adding the Montauk monster? I'm not sure having not read either books yet. Can anyone clarify the authors and what the books from each author offer?

The only thing they have that hasn't been told and retold ( rebooting TV series/ movies franchises etc) is stories to close the truth. We have reality TV to thank for it, it was boring us so they scripted and faked it and got caught. Now the masses crave things closer to reality and strangers things gives us that, 60 % have heard of MK Ultra/ Montauk but they do not know from where or why. My family members who have seen the show asked me about those very things ( i've mentioned them before in some of my get your head out of your ass rants to them) There is very little truth in this show, it mentions things from reality but has little facts, this will only cause more "Oh I saw that in a fictional TV show attitude" as I have experienced, causing more disbelief when the topics are mentioned in a real discussion.
The next show will be a fictional story called Taller Tales about a young man named Davi Dike who finds and befriends a friendly reptile alien whom secretly rules the world. Hollywood knows how to make things look unreal and how to cause us to ridicule the truth. So quickly we forgot Harry and the Hendersons and Alf..

Truthster your quote above reflects the quote as my own, when in fact it is Sierra's. (*) My quote tab reflects who the quote belongs to. In order for your statement to be directed to whom it was meant for you should hit edit and erase my name from the quote.
I'll answer your question though. Per the Montaulk experts Al Bielek, Duncan Cameron, Preston Nichols, and Stewart Swerdlow.
The head psychic at Montaulk was Duncan Cameron. In an effort to short circuit the Montaulk project and end what was going on there, Duncan while hooked up to the Montaulk chair manifested and or created a monster. This monster was powerful enough to destroy most of the compound and the fear of it's return was said to have ended the Montaulk project.
Sierra is stating that the inspiration for the story and the monster in it came from the actual montaulk project, and I agree with her.

Sorry for the quote confusion. I'm kind of a noob at the whole quoting others thing and how to properly edit it. i hope I got it right this time.
Thanks for the added detail. It makes sense if the girl in the show created the monster in order to end the experiments. Originally it looked like the intent was to use the power as a means to spying on their adversaries (depicted in the movie as Russians). I assumed that during those travels they just stumbled upon the monster and didn't know it was there until then. However, it sounds like the suggestion is that the girl did not want to continue the project and thus created a monster as a way of derailing the project. This leads me to an enormous side tangent....
When I was studying "magic" it appeared to me that most of it had to do with the practitioners own belief. A person expert at "magic" could create or manifest anything into existence if they had the proper faith/belief. However, it would also be possible for the "magician" to create or manifest something so terrible that it scares them badly enough to forget that THEY are the one who created it and if they created it, they can uncreate it. But fear takes over the magician and he/she can be killed by their own creation or manifestation because they forget they have the power. Ok...that's WAY off topic.

Well said. And I will never forget Alf. If we examine the stories being told by a lot of these Netflix/Amazon Prime/Showtime/HBO Originals (coming at us at a fast and furious speed), we start to take a little bit of truth from each show and come closer to assembling the message. There is a show about human clones killed off one by one (Orphan Black). There is another show about human trafficking/murder/drug running with a lot of family drama (Bloodline). Let's look at the world of Finance by watching the SEC go against Wall Street on the show "Billions". Speaking of the 80's, I remember being made to believe that sources such as the Enquirer and others at the check out line were pure garbage. Turns out maybe the rag news was closer to the truth than we thought. And at this point, anything the supposed truth movement points out, I head for the hills ---> in the opposite direction. Because I find individuals like Alex Jones, Jimmy Church, Sean Stone, etc. to be in it for the money and ultimately all reporting to Ted Turner or Mike Aquino (either directly or indirectly).
No one seems to be coming out and telling us that on the other side of this Satanic/MK Ultra/Lizard/Alien thing is the MORMON CHURCH. Where is the show on what goes on underground their temples? Where is that big blockbuster movie about who OWNS every single hotel in the United States (The Latter Day Saints do) and that there are certain rooms/pools used in them for above ground parties while also showing the "pure snow white" types perform their rituals in the pools in the basements of the Latter Day Saint Temples in their white magic undergarments?
Back to topic. :cash: IMHO, the "soul" of Eleven is the same "soul" as Chief Hopper's daughter. So, Sarah (I think that was her name) lives on through new models/bodies and maybe we will see "Twelve" come out in season two representing the soul of the lost daughter once again.

People have made film scripts and film script points and flow-logic-meaning, etc..from stuff off this forum.
I've seen some film stuff that I swear has plot points and high level ideological aspects of physic sensitivity, dimensionality, astral travel, physics, etc, that come straight off some of the posts here.
Some of the stuff does not exist anywhere else.... from my understanding..... so it has to have come from right here.
Which I don't mind. It was kinda the point of mentioning the given aspects of complex reality. (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/redhotchilipeppers/giveitaway.html)

Yes, you are correct, co-authored (and the source of the first book material) by Preston Nichols. I always search Amazon by the name Peter Moon because he has multiple co-authors.
Peter Moon is a difficult author to summarize, and it's been years since I read them, so pardon the paucity of description.
Peter Moon has also written Montauk books without Preston Nichols (one is with Stewart Swerdlow), but I've only listed the books co-authored by Preston Nichols on the subject of Montauk (two other co-authored books are The Music of Time and Encounter in the Pleiades: an Inside Look at UFOs).
The Montauk Project: Experiment in Time Paperback -June 1, 1992
by Peter Moon (Author), Preston B Nichols (Author), & 1 more
Philadelphia Experiment, Montauk, the beginning of mind control experiments, evidence of two lives lived simultaneously by one man, time travel
Montauk Revisited: Adventures in Synchronicity (The Montauk, Book 2) Paperback – September, 1993
by Preston B. Nichols (Author), Peter Moon (Author), & 1 more
I think this is the book where it is described how Duncan Cameron manifested a beast from his subconscious that trashed the Montauk base
The Black Sun: Montauk's Nazi-Tibetan Connection Paperback – May 1, 1997
by Peter Moon (Author), Preston B. Nichols (Author), & 1 more
Order of the Black Sun, a Nazi occult group with ties to Montauk experimentation
Pyramids of Montauk: Explorations in Consciousness Paperback – January, 1992

What happened to barbs family ? They may have been influenced by the lady from the government faculty that was killing peeps.

I am watching the series currently and while the story contains a lot suspense (which is good) it pictures also a "pissing contest" amongst the youngsters. (So - it deals mainly with family and inter-personal conflicts.)
It's funny how so many series live on "television soap opera".
Reminds me at a cheap newspaper.
What I would like to see would be a Sci-Fi - suspense type drama without interpersonal guilt and blame trips but focused on the sane attributes of man.
But then again - it wouldn't sell to the masses!

Seemed like they were covering a lot of stuff on "remote viewing" as well.. at least that's what I assume the isolation tank was used for with 11 (she was spying on Russians at one point).

Before I heard of the Montauk Project I kind of assumed that 11 was being used by the government for remote viewing too but somehow they "discovered" that there are monsters in this place she uses and sort of unwittingly unleashed a monster. A friend of mind pointed out however that when she is remote viewing or using sensory deprivation tanks she is in a place totally empty with what looks like water on the ground. It seems to be an entirely different place than the Upside Down which has trees, buildings, etc and is a mirror image of our world in some ways. Based on that, it seems the show depicts two different places 11 can travel. She can go to whatever place she is when she is doing remote viewing (empty, watery place) and she can go to the upside down (shadow world of our world). Someone here however suggested that in the books on the Montauk Project the lead psychic (depicted as 11 in the show) may have become disillusioned with what they were doing and purposefully created a monster with their mind to derail the project. If that is correct and the inspiration for the show, perhaps 11 was being used for her psychic abilities but then decided she wanted to stop and created a monster. This might explain why she says its "her fault". She literally created the monster with her mind. In the end scenes when she defeats the monster she moves her arm and the creature moves in time with her. It is perhaps showing that she IS the monster in some way. It is a creation of hers. Because she created it, she can un-create it too.

When I saw the isolation tank scene I couldn't help think of the movie "Altered States". Which, by the way if you haven't seen it, it's pretty freaking good.
A UCLA professor is doing consciousness experiments, he starts off with the isolation tank, then he runs into an anthropologist that that takes him to a medicine man who makes him a concoction of mushrooms and peyote, (I couldn't help but think that the movie was influenced by Castaneda here). So William Hurt trips balls in the isolation tank and starts to open up a vortex to a primoridial state of existence which starts to affect the envioroment around him.
