Would anyone be interested in watching some sort of group movie, lecture, or documentary using a a social media (video/audio) chat platform like Google Hangouts our something where we all watch a shared video and the people can request to pause the movie, lecture, or topic to comment on the video and have short discusisons? I think it would be fun to get some of the interesting perspectives together here from this site and then talk over something that is presented. The moderator would serve both as a peace keeper in case the discussion gets a little heated and also saying when a topic has been discussed enough and the movie, lecture, etc continues to play. I'm thinking good candidates for a movie discussion could be a conspiracy documentary, an episode of ancient aliens maybe, a David Icke presenation, or the teachings of a spiritual guru of some sort. If there is any interest in this I'll take up finding a platform to work with and helping pick a starter topic/video.

ADDITION:

So after some initial testing the platform of choice for watching a movie together and discussing is rabb.it located at https://rabb.it

My vote is ALWAYS Cloud Atlas (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWnAqFyaQ5s).

But definitely have a number of other ideas that would probably also get boo'd off the stage.

Sounds good but you can take ancient aliens off your list since those "scientists" dont know **** about what they are talking...

I think these two would be good to watch.....

Packing for Mars

Alien Reptilian Legacy

...If the licensing agreement permits?

Another vote for Cloud Atlas.

A friend recommended me to watch The Forecaster.

Other possible films:

Reconvergence
The Thought Exchange
We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll take a few days to see if others are interested, compile a list, and find a platform to do this on and let everyone know. Shooting for maybe something next weekend?

Cloud Atlas is pretty good, my suggestion if you like this movie is to read the Jane Roberts "Seth" material, especially "The Adverntures of Oversoul 7". I would be more inclined to watch a speaking from say a UFO congress or the like.

This appears to be a full feature film right? It might be a little hard to have a lot to talk about during that sort of movie. Maybe a movie discussion after everyone watches the movie? My idea however was something with a lot more topics or points covered that generate discussion in real time.

Those look like promising possibilities. I'll dig deeper.

I'm going to do some testing this long weekend with Google Hangouts. It seems to have youtube integration (not surprising) and allows you to start a hang out watching a shared youtube video. If this is the case, I might suggest we stick to video content available on youtube since it will both have been vetted for copyright infringement and will potentially easily allow us to share and comment on in real time.

Rabbit is a web-based environment like google hangouts that lets the moderator share screen or even stream straight from netflix/youtube/etc. Did the 'but will it work on Linux test' and it fits the bill for an appropriate place for all to meet. Give a time and I am down for a Mystery Science Theater 3000 movie night with my lovely avalonians.
