Years ago I saw an interview of an owner of a bread company in California. He decided to pay everyone in the company the same. He made just as much as the janitor. I think it came out out to about 60 or 70 thousand a year. The company became more profitable because of it. Everyone took pride in what they did because they felt like they were important to the company. If they didn't do a good job it affected the company badly which affected their pay. It was like they were all owners of the company.
