Good grief.... I have been out all day since very very early this morning and have just found out about this new huge earthquake... obviously, I did not feel it here way up north.

I'll be getting back with some news in a bit.

The ancient town of Norcia in central Italy is in ruins following the powerful earthquake which knocked its historical 13th century Basilica of St Benedict and other buildings to the ground.

Sunday’s earthquake was the latest in a series of seismic events to strike central Italy, and comes just two months after another violent earthquake hit the same area of central and southern Italy, killing 300 people and destroying several towns.

https://img.rt.com/files/2016.10/original/5815c16fc4618862078b456f.jpg

There was widespread devastation, with many buildings, already compromised by earlier quakes, suffering severe damage.

Many of the town’s residents had been evacuated after quakes on Wednesday, meaning they avoided the worst of the damage. The Civil Protection agency reported several injuries but no fatalities.

Authorities say it’s the strongest quake to hit the country since the Irpinia earthquake which killed more than 2,500 people in southern Italy in November 1980, with reports that the tremors were felt in the capital Rome, and as far away as Venice in the north.

another 6.5 magnitude #earthquake (https://twitter.com/hashtag/earthquake?src=hash) hits Central #Italy (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Italy?src=hash) at 7.41am today: this is Norcia's San Benedetto basilica (XIV century)

The Basilica of St Benedict had survived the August shock but the force of this quake proved too powerful, causing the church to collapse.

The Monks of Norcia, who cared for the church built atop St Benedict’s birthplace, issued a statement (https://en.nursia.org/2016/10/30/the-basilica-is-destroyed/) confirming the basilica’s destruction. The statement also reassured the public that the monks are all safe despite the devastation.

They also warned, however, that some buildings were on the brink of collapse.

The American monks brew their own beer and urged people to buy the beverage to help fund the recovery in the aftermath of the August quake.

Photos and videos have been released showing the monks and nuns standing in solidarity with locals turning to prayer after the disaster. Priests in the Umbria region have been told by Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti to hold masses outside for fear of building collapses, according to AP. (https://apnews.com/5819a1c44e564dbe9a86fd0e39dc0b26?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP)

News of the basilica’s destruction has left many heartbroken.

The cathedral of Saint Maria Silver and the town hall are also reported to have been damaged according to Ansa. (http://www.ansa.it/sito/notizie/cronaca/2016/10/30/terremoto-oggi-nuova-scossa-di-magnitudo-6.1-epicentro-tra-norcia-e-preci_ba5f3d9b-0a35-46c3-b4db-9a63e584cadf.html)

San Francesco Church in Norcia also appears to have been devastated by the quake.

Meanwhile, the Basilica of St Paul in Rome has been closed for further inspection due to fallen rubble and cracks in the building from the shock.

Radio Vatican reports that Pope Francis prayed for the victims, “I pray for the wounded and the families that have suffered major damage; as well as for the personnel.”

Other small towns are also reeling from the shock. The Mayor of Arquata del Tronto Aleandro Petrucci said (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/30/italy-earthquake-powerful-quake-hits-central-italy-near-norcia/): “There are no towns left. Everything came down."

"This morning's quake has hit the few things that were left standing. We will have to start from scratch," Michele Franchi, the deputy mayor of Arquata del Tronto, told (https://www.rt.com/news/364721-italy-central-quake-damage/) RAI TV.

The Mayor of Ussita, Marco Rinaldi said:“I slept in the car, I saw hell.”

The government revealed an initial allocation of €40 million to deal with the aftermath of the quake on top of the money committed to the August quake relief efforts, according to Ansa (http://www.ansa.it/english/news/2016/10/28/around-100-more-aftershocks-overnight_8097fbcf-0142-4396-a0b4-3f9b227e2940.html).

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has pledged to rebuild all homes and churches destroyed in Sunday's quake, Reuters reported.

"We will rebuild everything, the houses, the churches and the businesses," Renzi said. "Everything that needs to be done to rebuild these areas will be done."

Here's a map of the area:
http://images2.corriereobjects.it/methode_image/2016/10/27/Interni/Foto%20Interni%20-%20Trattate/mappa-epicentro-terremoto-norcia-kZRF-U432402250475896BD-593x443@Corriere-Web-Sezioni.jpg

There are many reports from as far as 150km away by those who say they felt the tremor, objects moved or fell in their homes or even some small damage such as cracks in walls.

It appears that there have not been any fatalities, though there are many injuries reported. Most of the areas near recent earthquakes (also the ones in August) have had even more buildings collapsing completely.

This 6.5 mag EQ was originally and initially reported as 7.1. The epicenter was in the town of Norcia, exactly as the biggie in August. There was nearly no damage to Norcia in August. Today's EQ has caused huge damage which can be compared to the damage at Amatrice in August. The mayor of Norcia has announced that the area of the town called Castelluccio has been completely leveled.

The 14th century Basilica of Saint Benedict (Norcia) collapsed in this morning's quake. At Amatrice, already damaged from the EQ in August, the Civil Towers and the chruch of St. Augustino are now just rubbble.

The mayor of the town of Tolentino has asked that all of its citizens evacuate the area because of the severe strutural damage to most of the town's buildings and the fact that noone can guarantee any normalcy in their lives.

In Rome, the church of St. Paul Outside the Walls was damaged and many monuments were closed for controlls.

Even in Aquilla, hit by EQ six years ago, a building fell.

Many roads in and around the sismic area, which covers up to 50km radius, are blocked by landslides or huge boulders, some bridges are crippled or have fallen, and a few tunnels have structural damage. Trains were halted but this afternoon are now working.

Minister Hints Italy’s Earthquakes Divine Punishment for UNESCO Decision
By Abra Forman October 30, 2016 , 10:30 am

“And Hashem said unto Moshe: ‘Whosoever hath sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.” Exodus 32:33 (The Israel Bible™)

Deputy Minister Ayoob Kara caused a diplomatic incident last week after suggesting that the massive earthquakes which have recently rocked Italy were a divine punishment for the country’s failure to vote against the UNESCO decision denying Jewish ties to the Temple Mount. Backlash against his comments led to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) issuing an apology on Kara’s behalf, Ynet reported.

Kara, a Druze-Israeli politician who was in Italy on a diplomatic visit to the Vatican during one of the earthquakes, wrote in a memo following the tremors, “I’m sure that the earthquake happened because of the UNESCO decision, which the Pope strongly disagreed with. He even said publicly that the holy land is connected to the Nation of Israel.”

Pope Francis had issued a statement after the passing of a second UNESCO resolution, declaring that God had promised the Holy Land to the people of Israel.

Italy abstained from voting on the resolution, which essentially defines Jerusalem as a Muslim city with virtually no significance to Judaism or Christianity, despite thousands of years of recorded history, as well as archaeological proof, establishing the undeniable connection.

Its passing was dismissed by Israeli figures as absurd.

********

This is not the first time divine intervention has been linked to natural or geological disasters following anti-Israel actions. Most recently, a Bible Codes video by Rabbi Matityahu Glazerson suggested that Hurricane Matthew, a powerful and deadly storm which claimed over 1,600 lives in Central America and the southeastern United States earlier in the month, was a punishment for American interference in Israel’s building policies in Judea and Samaria.

RAINews24 is reporting that there are 25,000 displaced persons because of the EQs in Central Italy.

Errani, Head of the Civil Protection says he doesn't want to have to relocate ("deport" is the word he used) the population, but there is nothing left for them in the towns hard hit by the EQs.

The town of Visso is 90% destroyed and none of the remaining 10% is safe.

Since the 6.6 EQ of this morning there have been more than 200 smaller quakes in the area; 15 were 4M or greater.

The article in the link below states " The number of displaced persons could grow to 100,000. Noone missing. Casteluccio razed to the ground.

This map shows the EQ swarm since Aug 24 2016 when the 6.3M hit. The red star is this morning's EQ:

Update-

Another EQ of 4.8M shook the already tried area around Norcia, Italy this morning around 8:55 am local time.

The hamlet of Casteluccio of Norcia has, finally, this morning been accessed by emergency units and reporters. The village could be seen from the distance of Norcia proper and the mayor had already declared the destrucion of the entire village. The Civil Protection is now making its evaulations- 80% of the buildings there are now rubble or extremely damaged. There is no electricity or water.

CNR-INGV, the Italian authorities for geological monitoring have reported that the land mass around the EQ area, 130km squared, has signs of deformation, and has sunk 70cm average.

Since the Oct 30 quake, there have been more than 1100 aftershocks.

Only 700 displaced persons have accepted the government's accogliance offer to relocate to hotels on the coast. Most of the population of Norcia (pop 3000) and neighboring towns refuse to leave or temporarily relocate. The Civil Protection is therefore preparing tentopolis (tent camps) which is a bit of a problem considering the onset of cold weather and rain in the forecast. The gov't has promised to build camps with prefab buildings... but after the 24 Aug EQ, they also had promised them to be delivered within 7 months time.

After this morning's EQ, all controls of the buildings in the various towns will have to be repeated. Many of the buildings that passed the structural controls done in the past two days now have visible structural damge which means they are no longer safe.
