China has recently managed to strike some deals with AMD to obtain some of their technology in the x86 computing world ... it seems China is serious about keeping this lead ...

The USA is attempting to stop this Chinese "supercomputing fiasco"!
http://wccftech.com/us-government-bans-intel-nvidia-amd-chips-china/ -- which is why AMD likely just went to China to strike up IP deals, rather than selling them the chips specifically ...

Actually, China has officially had the world's fastest computer for each of the last 7 years. The significance here is that this time, it has no American components. From the RT article: (https://www.rt.com/news/347620-china-supercomputer-sunway-taihulight)

A Chinese supercomputer has been named the world's fastest computer for the seventh year in a row – but unlike previous winners, this year's champion uses only Chinese-designed processors, representing a decline of US dominance in the field.

The new titleholder, the Sunway TaihuLight at the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, was developed by China's National Research Center of Parallel Computer Engineering & Technology.

The supercomputer uses Chinese-developed ShenWei processors, “ending any remaining speculation that China would have to rely on Western technology to compete effectively in the upper echelons of supercomputing," said a statement by the TOP500 project ranking the world's fastest supercomputers.

Of interest to computer buffs, the Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunway_TaihuLight) states:

The Sunway TaihuLight uses a total of 40,960 Chinese-designed SW26010 manycore 64-bit RISC processors based on the Sunway architecture. Each processor chip contains 256 processing cores, and an additional four auxiliary cores for system management that are also RISC cores just more fully featured, for a total of 10,649,600 CPU cores across the entire system.

* A footnote to all this: these are only computers in the public domain. A number of insiders have reported that artificially intelligent supercomputers exist deep underground. My notes say there's one in Colorado, one in New Mexico, one in London and another in Pine Gap. And I bet the Russians and Chinese have them, too. The earliest reference to one of these was in Bill Deagle's seminal December 2006 Granada Forum Lecture, in which he described one underground supercomputing facility in Colorado that he'd visited and been shown round personally.

I would think we would have no idea what the fastest computer in the world is because it would be classified. Just me thinking out loud.

A little more about China:

It's really a totally modern 21st Century superstate now -- in many areas. Those of you who saw the beautiful Joachin Phoenix Sci-Fi film 'HER (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1798709/)' may know that although it was set in a future Los Angeles, it was filmed in present-day Shanghai.

This is what Shanghai looks like...

Here's a Chinese supertrain (which reaches 300 mph)...

Here's their own stealth fighter...

... and as we know, they have their own space program.

And from what I hear China is a bubble just waiting to burst just like the US. But what do I know. I definitely don't claim to be a financial expert.

See this post as well: http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?91367-Intel-computers-hide-another-CPU-that-can-take-over-your-machine&p=1076523&viewfull=1#post1076523

all that effort just to bypass any necessity to use any US components: Intel computers hide another CPU that can take over your machine (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?91367-Intel-computers-hide-another-CPU-that-can-take-over-your-machine)

So... who is hacking whose computers?

It was all transferred in China!

And the creativity of the Western world was chemtrailed and GMOed and unschooled. Just look at the actual political candidates and the emotional upheaval it provokes - nothing ot this is intelligent in the populace (yes, I use the term populace this time around, because it is what the population is becoming)

I think you would need to have an ultra wide screen to see the all the CPU's under performance tab of task manager.
