And who by fire, who by water,
who in the sunshine, who in the night time,
who by high ordeal, who by common trial,
who in your merry merry month of may,
who by very slow decay,
and who shall I say is calling?
And who in her lonely slip, who by barbiturate,
who in these realms of love, who by something blunt,
and who by avalanche, who by powder,
who for his greed, who for his hunger,
and who shall I say is calling?
And who by brave assent, who by accident,
who in solitude, who in this mirror,
who by his lady's command, who by his own hand,
who in mortal chains, who in power,
and who shall I say is calling?
A Poet has passed.

In 1976 my hometown Vienna was in deep sleep, under a heavy, gray blanket of fog, evolved from a lack of historical repraisal, denial and self-oppression since the end of the Third Reich. Out of this cultural climate emerged a grassroots movement which flourished one summer long. Thousands of activists occupied a former slaughterhouse called Arena and fought for a free, autonomous, international cultural center.
When Leonard Cohen gave a concert in Vienna, in June 76, he was told about that movement and decided spontaneously to drop by. They sat on feeding troughs and telephone books, ate donated cakes and debated about politics, life and art. He called the former slaughterhouse the most beautiful place in Europe - now! (then) Two of my friends were present that evening.
Have a good time over there, Leonard Cohen :waving: :)
