The Man in the High Castle may be Dick’s most straightforwardly compelling illustration of the experience of alternate realties

In 1963, Philip K. Dick won the coveted Hugo Award for his novel The Man in the High Castle, beating out such sci-fi luminaries as Marion Zimmer Bradley and Arthur C. Clarke. Of the novel, The Guardian writes, “Nothing in the book is as it seems. Most characters are not what they say they are, most objects are fake.” The plot—an alternate history in which the Axis Powers have won World War II—turns on a popular but contraband novel called The Grasshopper Lies Heavy. Written by the titular character, the book describes the world of an Allied victory, and—in the vein of his worlds-within-worlds thematic—Dick’s novel suggests that this book-within-a-book may in fact describe the “real” world of the novel, or one glimpsed through the novel’s reality as at least highly possible.

I like Calibre because of it's Convert tool which allows conversion from and too virtually all book formats. You can take a epub to a pdf or a pdf to a epub. I keep the Calibre library in Dropbox and so all books are available on all my computers and portable devices, phones and tablets.

I think it's wonderful that this thread was started and all of this information is made available. But--as a writer myself, I have to say I feel kind of queasy seeing the many, many (hundreds) of Copyrighted Books linked here for download, both directly and from other websites. It makes me wonder if any of these authors or their rep's were contacted and asked permission to post their works and make them available for free. I'll assume they were not.

I'm not trying to rain on the parade here. But think about it---someone works for years on a book, day in and and day out, often goes through hell to get it "published" legitimately and suddenly sees it made easily and instantly available for Free download. How would we all feel about that? Is that any different than posting Beck's or Prince's new album for instant download?

Now, some of these authors might say "sure, go ahead, I love the Avalon people". But others might not be so readily agreeable. Others still might say "well, okay, but make a small donation to this or that charity," for every download or every ten downloads.

I'm happy to be on the forum and hope to add another dimension to this thread.

Many thanks for this, and it's a tricky subject. In 95% (or more) of the instances of books referenced on this thread, the books are out there already in PDF form — somewhere on the net. What the contributors to this thread are almost always doing is linking to existing locations.

I have quite often re-uploaded existing PDFs of books to the Avalon server, but that's just after (e.g.) adding the cover to the text PDF. That's merely for presentational purposes.

In one instance, with Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler's seminal book The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave, I spent an entire day, maybe two, cleaning up the existing 800 page 'internet' copy, reformatting and editing typos after the fairly poor quality OCR (Optical Character Recognition). I posted that on the Avalon server, too.

Sometimes we receive e-mails from the authors or their representatives, asking us to kindly remove a link to a book. When that happens, we comply immediately — and I always send a gracious reply.

Every time I "searched-termed" the key words: "Jim Marrs - The Rise Of The Forth Reich". I got nothing on this thread. I was unable to find a complete free copy online anywhere.

The writing of this book has not been an easy task. In fact it was outright difficult and painful. Few of the facts I have had to state in these pages were to my liking. They shocked earlier theories of mine, destroyed my accepted and familiar thoughts. They were not designed to win any new friends. Pondering the reports and the theories, I kept thinking, "Should science have something to say about this ? If it doesn't, then what is science good for?"

Science with a big 'S' is a complex system, when you look at it from the inside. Linear accelerators that stretch for miles, computing clusters as big as a supermarket, research centers the size of a city: the mind can easily be impressed by the dimensions of modern technology. As a professional scientist, I have driven telescopes inside their larges domes in mountaintops, and I have operated computers in a radar factory. I have walked through immense wind tunnels, and I have found my way in the streets of atomic cities, in Oak Ridge and Brookhaven. None of this helps me when I try to understand the motivations of the contactees : science doesn't come to my aid any more. I am outside the domain where equations rules a logical set of processes. I can't look at all this from the inside.

Consider science from the outside: it is a machine for turning out knowledge. It has worked extremely well for a while. It has given us aircraft, television, and trips to the Moon. On the other hand, there are situations in which it is useless, because it assumes that the phenomena that are fed into it are natural and spontaneous. If something bigger or smarter that the ordinary human mind is around, if some clever deceivers use it to feed us phenomena that have been designed to fool us by Machiavellian spies or benevolent masters, then a "scientific" investigation will be useless. How can we find out whether or not anomalous phenomena can be dealt with in scientific terms?

At the end of antiquity, people where fed up with science. The Greeks knew the Earth was a globe. They knew how big it was and how far it was from the Sun, and knew the diameter of the Moon. They could compute the date of future eclipses. They even understood the atomic structure of matter. But they couldn't tell what the human race was doing here, and where it would next go. So their science was swept away and forgotten. Will the same thing happen to our science? Is this what UFO's mean? Scientists may be in the same position with UFO's as they are with crime: every police department has a criminology lab, but it is the detective who finds the criminal, not the technician. WHERE ARE THE UFO DETECTIVES?

The public has two usual positions on UFO's, either "It's all nonsense", or "We are visited by creatures from another planet." Until today, the first position has been the stronger one. A majority of the public and practically every scientist has long thought that UFO's were nonsense – and that is why there are no UFO detectives. Now things are changing. So many people have seen strange phenomena that a new belief has been born. Scientific opinion cannot stop this shifting of power. There is another system. It is sending us messengers of deception. They are not necessarily coming from nearby stars. In terms of effects on us, it doesn't matter where they come from. I even suspect that "where" and "when" have no meaning here. How could we be alone? The black box of science has stopped ticking. People look up toward the stars in eager expectation.

Receiving a visit from outer space sounds as comfortable as having a God. Yet we shouldn't rejoice too soon. Perhaps we will get the visitors we deserve.

O.K., so earlier today I tried in vein to find a Jim Marrs book, free online, so that I could copy some text for a comment here on the forum.

Every time I "searched-termed" the key words: "Jim Marrs - The Rise Of The Forth Reich". I got nothing on this thread. I was unable to find a complete free copy online anywhere.

I have a hard copy of the book in question, so I had to transcribe the text I wanted to use in my comment.

How does one search this thread for specific books? It appears as though one would have to go through each page, comment-by-comment. There's no index.

there is some evidence to suggest that ISIS’s overarching strategy is especially influenced by one book in particular — and no, it’s not the Qur’an. In 2004, a PDF of a book entitled “The Management Of Savagery (http://azelin.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/abu-bakr-naji-the-management-of-savagery-the-most-critical-stage-through-which-the-umma-will-pass.pdf)” was posted online and circulated among Sunni jihadist circles. Scholars soon noticed that the book, which was published by an unknown author writing under the pseudonym “Abu Bakr Naji,” had become popular among many extremist groups such as al-Shabaab in Somalia, and was eventually translated into English for study in 2006 by William McCants, now the director of the Project on U.S. Relations with the Islamic World at the Brookings Institution. The book, McCants told ThinkProgress, was written as an alternative to the decentralized, “leaderless” approach to jihadism popular in the mid-2000s. Instead of using isolated attacks on super powers all over the globe, “The Management Of Savagery” offered an expansive plan for how a group of Muslim militants could violently seize land and establish their own self-governing Islamic state — much like ISIS is trying to do today.
“[The book] provides a roadmap for how to establish a caliphate,” McCants said. “It lays out how to create small pockets of territorial control … and how to move from there to a caliphate. It would not surprise me if the book were popular among the crew in Iraq [ISIS].”
McCants was quick to note that while “The Management of Savagery” is “the only text out there that really addresses the question of how [jihadists] can capture and hold territory,” the black-clad troopers in Iraq and Syria haven’t taken all of Naji’s advice to heart. ISIS has clearly ignored the author’s recommendation that fighters abide by traditional Islamic rules of engagement, such as refraining from violence against women or children. Among other horrors, reports abound of ISIS regularly using rape and sexual slavery (http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/28/rape-and-sexual-slavery-inside-an-isis-prison.html) as a weapon.
“The Islamic State stands apart from other [extremist] organizations,” McCants said. “They are not bound by the structures of traditional Islamic warfare.”
Nevertheless, other analysts, such as Lawrence Right (http://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/isiss-savage-strategy-in-iraq) of The New Yorker, former MI-6 agent Alastair Crooke (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alastair-crooke/iraq-isis-alqaeda_b_5542575.html), and Terrence McCoy of the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/08/12/the-calculated-madness-of-the-islamic-states-horrifying-brutality/), have also observed echoes of the book in the actions of ISIS. They argue that while ISIS leaders haven’t openly acknowledged the influence of Naji’s writing, their machinations in the Middle East — especially how the group exploits destabilized regions and stokes intra-religious conflict — closely match several aspects of Naji’s plan. “The Management Of Savagery,” for instance, recommends inciting violence between Muslims and stretching the military forces of a target nation by temporarily laying claim to energy sources. This destabilization is supposed to create “regions of savagery” — or true chaos wrought by war — where shell-shocked inhabitants willingly submit to an invading force such as ISIS to end conflict. This, Naji argues, eventually leads to the establishment of an extremist version of a Sunni caliphate.
“The key idea in the book is that you need to carry out attacks on a local government and sensitive infrastructure — tourism and energy in particular,” McCants said. “That causes a local government to pull in security resources to protect that infrastructure that will open up pockets where there is no government — a security vacuum.”
ISIS has operated similarly in Iraq and Syria, using a divide-and-conquer approach to recruit followers and take cities. It has exploited the conflict between Sunnis and Shias in most of its land holdings, but especially in Iraq (http://www.vox.com/cards/things-about-isis-you-need-to-know/sunni-shia-conflict-ISIS), where militants from both religious groups have been locked in various levels of armed conflict since the U.S. invaded in the early 2000s. ISIS has also targeted important power sources such as Iraq’s largest dam (http://thinkprogress.org/world/2014/08/07/3468739/isis-mosul-dam/) near Mosul, which their soldiers temporarily captured in August. Similar to Naji’s prediction, the move pressured the U.S. to launch airstrikes as Iraqi forces mustered their forces to reclaim the dam, a strategy that is being repeated (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/08/world/middleeast/iraq.html) now that ISIS has laid claim to the Haditha Dam near Baghdad.
ISIS’s grandiose use of violence is also foreshadowed in Naji’s writing. He dedicates an entire chapter to “Using Violence” in the book, explaining that it can be an effective tool for volunteer recruitment and instilling fear, noting, “Those who have not boldly entered wars during their lifetimes do not understand the role of violence and coarseness against the infidels in combat and media battles.” The author makes several references to the influence and power of media in general, adding that violent communication is crucial part of frightening an enemy.
“It behooves us to make [our enemies] think one thousand times before attacking us,” the book reads.

Belief and the Powers of the Mind

Before my days at the monastery, I was attending a university (To make a long story short, I flunked high school, was expelled, supposedly had a genius I.Q., and ended up in college instead). In one of my classes, the professor gave a hypnosis demonstration. I witnessed people who were so well “hypnotized”, that when they were told that a burning cigar was being touched to the palm of their hand, blisters instantly appeared (even though only an unlit cigar was touched to their hand).

But as the years have gone by in my life, I have witnessed far more amazing and strange things. Believe it or not - it really doesn’t matter to me.

I have seen objects moved with thought. I’ve seen hand-to-hand combat, where no flesh ever made contact. I’ve seen bodies tossed about like rag dolls by energies invisible to the “normal” human eye. I’ve seen people with bad cuts stop bleeding by “thinking it so”. I’ve seen people stop their heart, and stop breathing, without dying. I’ve seen monks in the Himalayas, sit in the snow, in conditions that were so cold that as they were wrapped in wet blankets, the blankets froze around them.

After many layers of blankets were applied, the monks would visualize heat within themselves, radiating out. The blankets would defrost, and a circle of melted snow would appear around them. Their degree of mental accomplishment was measured by the size of the circle around them. And I’ve seen far more.

The “hypnosis demonstrations” in college, were mysterious and remarkable enough, but after witnessing the monks melting the ice, I asked Zain how such things were done. After having me read what was called “The Tibetan Treatise of Psychic Heat”, he began teaching me all the details of the power of the mind. It began with this discussion:
