The Sunday clashes reportedly occurred when several anti-pipeline protesters used a semi truck to remove burnt out military vehicles from the area, which were left over from a protest earlier in November. That allegedly prompted authorities to respond by firing tear gas.

Demonstrators protesting against Dakota Access Pipeline say they are trapped on a bridge as North Dakota police fire tear gas, water cannon and concussion grenades at them, according to live reports on social media.

The demonstration is taking place on Highway 1806, just north of the main protest camp against the pipeline.

Officers have deployed water cannon on the protesters in below-freezing temperatures, and are using LRAD sound devices. Earlier, there were reports of rubber bullets fired. Vehicles which appear to be armored humvees have arrived at the scene.

Digital Smoke Signals (https://www.facebook.com/DigitalSmokeSignals/?fref=ts), who are utilizing Drone video on site have also captured footage of continued drilling under the river at this time, disregarding an easement issued by the U.S. Government.

Hours for Protesting Dakota Access Pipeline

"After that, I was strip-searched and then thrown into jail

‘In an update on police treatment of activists at the Standing
Rock standoff, Tara Houska, national campaigns director for
Honor the Earth, describes how she was “arrested for criminal
trespass as I was leaving a peaceful demonstration and getting
into my car on a public road.”

She says police handcuffed her with zip ties and held her in a
dog kennel for six hours without charging her with a crime.

The standoff over the $3.8 billion Dakota Access Pipeline continues after a night of clashes left over 180 people injured. Images of some of the gruesome injures are starting to appear on social media.

A smaller number of police were present on the Backwater Bridge, at the center of the unrest. Additional police are said to be arriving.

Images of some of the injuries sustained during the multi-hour protest between 400 demonstrators and police, including the National Guard, are starting to circulate on social media. Police fired water cannon, rubber bullets and pepper spray in freezing conditions in response. Some pictures of injuries are graphic.

Dallas Goldtooth with the Indigenous Environmental Network said at least 17 people were taken to hospital, some with head injuries and some with hypothermia.

The conflict between Dakota Access Pipeline protesters and police happened late Sunday and early Monday, when over 400 demonstrators had been trying to remove a blockage on the Backwater Bridge on the state highway before clashing with police.

Authorities built a blockade on the bridge using military equipment chained to concrete barriers, erected barbed wire, and posted ‘No Trespass’ signs.

Police argue the bridge, which has been blocked for weeks, is unsafe due to earlier fires. Protesters argue blocking the bridge is dangerous, especially in an emergency.
Authorities defended their use of water hoses against protesters.

Morton County Sheriff's spokesman Rob Keller told AP the water hoses were used to put out fires set by protesters and to keep them away from law officers during a violent clash that was "rapidly unfolding."

Authorities said protesters assaulted officers with rocks and burning logs, injuring one officer. One protester was arrested.

The claim is that protesters are lighting fires and inciting a riot. The reason there are fires is it's below freezing, they are trying to keep warm. The police response: Spray them with water... I mean this is assault and could be murder if someone dies from hypothermia.

They used rubber bullets, pepper spray, concussion grenades, water cannons and tear gas. Is this how the police "serve and protect"? Who are they serving is the better question.

The coverage is laughable on most news sites. People were streaming videos all night last night but facebook kept shutting them down. Is this how facebook intends on silencing "fake news"?

I'm beyond outraged...
