IMPORTANT!

This just now came across so I haven't vetted it.

Israel Shoots UFO out of Sky

December 16, 2010 03:20 PM EST

The Israeli Air Force shot down a UFO on Thursday in the Negev Desert just above one of their nuclear plants. The unidentified flying object appeared in the no-fly zone, and air force jets scrambled, and shot it out of the sky. What exactly was the motorized object? It may have been a weather balloon, but it remains undetermined at this point.

Israel

CNN reports, "There have been unconfirmed media reports that it was a motor-driven object. The air force reacted according to procedure when the object was spotted, the IDF said." Debris from the object is being studied to see if it is a UFO or a warplane. This is very upsetting because whether this was a warplane or a UFO it's not good news, but if it was just a weather balloon, everyone just lost his or her weather forecast.

UFO

Whatever it was, Israeli officials are scrambling to determine. Incidents such as these are dangerous in times when tensions run high in the Middle East. As for it being a true UFO that would be awesome.

Object shot out of sky above Israeli nuclear plant, military says

December 16, 2010 3:16 p.m. EST

Jerusalem (CNN) -- The Israeli Air Force shot down an unidentified flying object over the Dimona nuclear plant in the Negev Desert Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces said.
The object appeared in a designated no-fly zone, the air force was scrambled and the object was shot down, the IDF said.
The object could have been a party balloon, the IDF said, but forces have not yet found the debris to determine what it was.
There have been unconfirmed media reports that it was a motor-driven object. The air force reacted according to procedure when the object was spotted, the IDF said.
The Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz reported that last October "IDF warplanes intercepted an Israeli ultralight aircraft that accidentally flew into the area and forced it to land at an airstrip in southern Israel."
It also reported that "an Israeli surface-to-air missile downed a crippled Israeli fighter-bomber that strayed into the restricted zone" during the Six Day War in 1967. The craft's pilot was killed.

Actually if it was a ET craft (as opposed to the blanket meaning of UFO) the fact that it was shot down would be completely LESS THAN AWESOME :(

If that would have been an ET craft... do you think they could have shot it down ?

I must say Kra, I like your suspicious mind! :)

This event will most likely disappear as quickly as it was announced, so just register it 'In the ol' data bank' for future reference because I suspect that we are going to be seeing more and more of these kinds of events as time goes by.

The USAF would tell you that since it had a motor, it was a motorized weather balloon.

'Scuse Me?

Are you referring to their "Swamp Gas Fueled, Motorized Weather Balloon"?

That information is not to be released to the public!

I'd like to see more of this develop. But I'd have to agree with Kra--if it was an ET, do you really think we would have been able to take it down?

Personally, I think Israel was simply shaking the "See? they're all still out to get us!!" tree.

Official IDF Release:

IAF Intercepted a Suspicious Flying Object
16 December 2010 , 20:51

The Israel Air Force intercepted a suspicious flying object hovering in a closed airspace above the southern Red Sea and endangering a Dimona plant. This is the IAF’s second interception in the air.

An Israel Air Force fighter jet shot down a suspicious object flying near the southern Red Sea on Thursday (Dec. 16), after it was determined that the object posed a threat to buildings in the area including the nearby Dimona (southern Israel) plant.

Army Radio stated in a later report that only after the IAF’s southern air-control unit determined the flying object was in a closed airspace, was unmanned and had no reason to be hovering where it was the IAF shot it down.

At this time the object is being studied at the Air Force, the incident and possibility that intelligence was being gathered on the Dimona plant being investigated by the IDF. As a result of the incident, flight paths to Eilat have been restricted. It was reported that some commercial flights were held back and pilots already in the air were instructed to fly at lower altitudes than usual.

This is the first time since the Second Lebanon War in which the Air Force used air interception. In August of 2006, the Air Force intercepted a small, unmanned plane sent from Lebanon. The northern air-control unit of the Air Force identified the aircraft before it was able to cross the border and planes were sent to intercept it. The aircraft was intercepted at a low altitude above the water. Navy vessels collected its broken parts.

A year ago in another incident, a civilian Ultralight (made for one or two people) plane was blown in the direction of the Dimona plant as a result of strong wind. After the Air Force determined that the aircraft was getting closer to the restricted area, two fighter jets were sent to where it flew and made contact with the pilot. Ultimately, the plane landed in a landing strip in Arad (southern Israel)

How long do you suppose it'll take them to study a party balloon?

I'm sure the USAF is assisting them with that!

:)

Harley, I am sure that they will declare it to be an "Iranian Jihad Party Balloon" in time for the Sunday news shows. ;)
