The Watchman and the Gardner

When we are born, we begin to record every single thing around us. Every word, every thing our eyes and ears see and hear. We bring into this life the knowledge of the universe imprinted upon us before our arrival into this journey. Very much like a computer's operating system and we add to it from the moment we are placed in our mother's womb.
All of this information is categorized and filed for us by the "controller", our brain, our unconscious mind. More sophisticated then any computer ever built. As we wake up each day and interact with the world around us we make decisions by accessing those files. There are two ways to access and utilize the files for every choice we make. One is through the "watchman", our ego, who makes sure we are taken care of and all of our needs met. The second is through the "gardner", our soul or subconscious, who helps us to cultivate every decision into learning experience.
Sometimes, most times, the watchman and the gardner disagree on which files to access for any given situation. There are no good files or bad files, there are only files which represent experiences and choices on how to respond to any given situation in life.
The watchman loves to play tapes of what happened last week or yesterday and what might happen tomorrow. The watchman has a side kick called the "painbody" who keeps track of and likes to remind you of the disappointments, failures and bad experiences. The gardner would have you concentrate on the 'now' and sow the seeds of contentment of "what is" because everything that ever happened to you always happened in the now. The now is the only thing that you get to effect. It is impossible to change anything that has already happened and only by what you do today can you possibly effect tomorrow.
Who will you choose to listen to? If you are driving and someone cuts you off, do you let the watchman push the button to access anger and rage? Or will you listen to the gardner who quickly whispers, maybe they didn't see you, you're ok, it is already over, let it go. You can't change the fact that they already cut you off. The "what is" file.
The more we listen to our gardner the more at peace we become with the world around us. The more we are in touch with the gardner, the more we can access the files that were imprinted in our souls that hold all of the answers we are searching for on this journey we call 'life". - Damian

Well said, if people gave more thought to living in the present, the world would be a much better place. The watchman is necessary but it takes the gardener to put and keep life in perspective.
