Hello Everyone! Three of my children live in Merida, Yucatan & my son wrote me last night that in other parts of the country there has been looting, street blocking & general unrest due to a 25% rise in gas prices. Just thought it might be of interest.

Thanks for the info Foxie Loxie, it is not so strange that people over there are upset right now, evil wants people to reach this state, it's a terrible thing that we on one hand must see and care about and on the other hand must not become too distracted by, because while these things are created to occur and distract, the evil is making its moves...

GUADALAJARA – In a letter directed to President Enrique Peña Nieto, the Mexican Association of Gas Station Operators warned there is an imminent risk of a gasoline shortage starting on January 1, 2017 in the entire country. This is due to the manner in which Pemex has warned them to sign new contracts consistent with the energy reform law.

The association explained in its letter that at the end of last November Pemex Industrial Transformation notified some gas stations of the adjustments to the contracts for the sale and marketing of fuel, and gave a them a period of 10 days to sign, unconditionally, to the new contracts for 3-1/2 or 7 years.

“It was impossible over a period of 10 days for the 11,444 gas station businesses in Mexico to decide on the new contracts. Even worse is that at the Pemex gas storage terminals they are applying radical measures, such as denying distribution of fuel to gas stations which have not signed that they have received the new contracts. Pemex is using discriminatory tactics, with threats they will not have fuel starting January 1, 2017,” said the letter.

For the association, made up of 350 businesses with more than 1,200 gas stations in 32 Mexican states, the pressure from Pemex is incongruent, as the price of gasoline will be set by the free market starting on February 1, 2017 only in the states of Baja California and Sonora.

The letter asks the president of Mexico to guarantee the supply of fuel and to authorize a period of 90 days to review the new contracts and 180 days to formalize them.

Hi there Fpxie, I do hope your children are out of harmsway, there are various places in the counrty with people protesting for the rising prices of gasoline, and it seems they plan to rise it even more in the coming months. They just do not care, there was an instance of a large group of men in ski masks that took over a gas station that told the public to pump all the gas they wanted without pay. Some gas stations have been burned. Stores have been looted, but there was one case of some looting that was done by policemen dressed as civilians acording to some witnesses. In the state of Chihuahua, the recent elected governor ordered the anti riot police against peaceful protesters, they where kneeling with their hands in the air. And the president is asking for the people to understand. It is just nuts, the most corrupt asking the hungry for the last bread crumb.

It'll be interesting to research the chess-move-like reasons that have been strategized behind this. Some stories claim gas prices were deregulated over the weekend by President Enrique Pena Nieto who said that regulation amounted to an unfair subsidy for the wealthy. So where exactly are the proceeds from higher prices going if not to the wealthy? Seems counter-intuitive on first glance. I suspect this isn't as much about gas prices as a design to trigger something else -- whether that be a crisis on the US border for the new President or more likely something to justify a North American Union or emergency measures pressuring everyone towards it.
