I Have Noticed A very Large increace in the numbers of tree cutting contractors in my neck of the woods. Sothern Michigan U.S.A. The power company are cutting trees, with hired subcontractors, in large numbers, and the farmers are clearing out wood lots at rates I have never seen before. 20 to 40 acre woodlands at a time. Has any one noticed this any where else? Why do you think they are doing this? The electric company,(Consumer powers), is doing it in all remote areas, very noticeably. And where they replace towers and wire, the wires are much larger in diameter than the old ones. Twice as large diameter anyway. Curious to me. Thanks.

the increase in strong storms make trees a hazard... maybe it's preventative? last year was pretty rough & this year is breaking records.

I can't answer on behalf of the power companies, but one general reason might simply be cash. I looked into selling timber myself, but it seemed like I didn't really have enough to even be worth calling anyone. But if you own something like 20 wooded acres, that's a different story, potentially thousands of dollars and all you have to do is sign a contract.

A little bit off topic:Attila was called "God's whip",now in Romania we have a political person surnamed "God's chain saw".

If the diameter/section of the cables are double than before and if at the end or along of the power line are not new consumers, than the cable himself became a power consumer.

God's chain saw, that's...hilarious. Not that there would be anything funny about turning Romania into dust.

Now that I think about it, last year my (former) across-the-street neighbor did clear cut several acres, for no obvious purpose.

Using the larger power lines is a little weird and could be wasteful. Especially in remote areas. Maybe they are going to relocate Detroit.

I live in Northern Indiana, just passed a billboard last weekend, it read." will buy walnut trees." I would suggest we are witnessing mankind scraping the bottom of the barrel. Everyone please go plant a tree.

I live in Long Island and I have seen the same everywhere, they are cutting not the whole trees but the branches. I think is because they are expecting a harsh winter and they are preventing those branches from being frozen and heavy with ice and make the power lines to fall down.

Trees will continue to fall, and many lost to natural causes such as wildfire; may we continue to help our mother heal and regrow.

The obvious first question is "are the trees that are being cut right beside power cables?... or are we talking about trees standing well clear of power lines. With the acreage being mention here somewhere it sounds more like tree harvesting than service maintenance.

Those trees I saw in the sample frame of the video look like they have reached their predetermined age and maturity and are being cleared according to a 70 year old plan. Those thick conifer forests are not natural, they would have been planted like that for harvesting a long way down the road, which seems to be about now.

Yes it is hilarious, because that politician is belonging to a ethnic minority and as all over the world, everyone know how the rules are. :):):) We have to protect and respect the minorities even in this cases of high rank corruption."God's chain saw" shaved the forest from three counties of about 12000 square km about 3000000 acres. And he never planted back not a single twig.

And per your neighbor:several acres there, about 3000000 acres other millions in Amazon and Sumatra some forest fire here and there and so we destroy our natural habitat.

Many of the trees the power company are cutting down are too far away from the lines to damage them if they did fall. The trees fall outside of the easements the power company has. Some land owners are telling them no. The lots being cleared are away from lines, and cotain many immature trees. No value to loggers. The farmers just burn most of the trees to make more field area to plant. About a fourth of the trees are being sold for lumber.
