He thinks he has an insight into the heliocentric model that no one else has seen. Does he? Or is he just showing huge levels of Dunning-Kruger?

Here is an interesting remark about the Flat Earth movement -- it's the best description of their state of mind I've read up to now. I found it on youtube somewhere in a comment. Unfortunately, in the meantime the comments were turned off now, therefore you can't read the comments anymore.

Flat eartherism is an expression of resentment, not just paranoia. It is a rejection of understanding, of complexity, of knowledge. "Everything you have been taught is a lie" is all that there really is to it. It really means everything. The shape of the planet is just a big, obvious thing to reject. An opportunity to say "Ya it is? **** you, I say it isn't." There's no logic to it, and only dreamlike evidence. It's simply rejection of the world of knowledge, the world the elites, the world of complicated ideas, incomprehensible math, the world of books and doctorates and foreign languages.
These are people who have felt oppressed by being stupid, by not knowing the right things, of being wrong, and not getting it. Flat earthism is a throwing-off of that oppression, the outright refusal to be wrong, to not know. They are saying "What I know is all there is to know. What I believe is right." To believe in the flat earth you have to reject all astronomy, all geology, all history [if all the nations of the world are in on this gigantic intricate scam, then history has all been theater], all physics, all sociology, all global transportation. It's a rejection of enlightenment thinking and knowledge entirely, in favor of cranky personal conviction. "No, you have to listen, you're got it wrong, you don't know the relevant facts and theories" will never be persuasive because that's precisely what they've rejected.
They make a show of 'logic and evidence, but of course, there is none. It's just mimicking the forms of the grownups, the elites, their oppressors. "We have our own facts and logics!" But it's not really about anything, it's window-dressing. You can argue the specific points, but it's not about the shape of the world, it's about mistrust, disbelief, and rejection.

Does anybody know how they explain the moon and the planets, which you actually can see with a telescope that they are round? I understand that they think the earth has a cupola over it with holes in it that are the stars. But the planets...and doesn't the planets (not only the moon) also move individually unrelated to the rest of the starry sky and thereby the "cupola"? How do they explain this?

How do they explain this? It's a very very good question! This baffled me for a while, because it seemed so obvious.
Then I came to understand that the Flat Earthers see Planet Earth literally as the Center of the Universe — and pretty much the only thing in the universe apart from a lot of pretty ceiling lights up there. :) In every way, their worldview is simply a giant step backwards to the pre-Copernican Dark Ages.

That question was asked on a flat earth YT video comment area. The answer given was that the globe shaped planets are put there by God as a sort of decoration for people on the flat earth. Like the globe decorations people put on a Christmas tree.
Best explanation ever.

Oh my oh my....yeah I guess there is no good explanation to the planets in our solar system...so when God found that he wanted to give us some fun objects to look at, why something that looks like freaking round balls like...a bit like this one? No bells ringning there...lol

Flat Earther Gets Busted Over Pitiful Map!!
K5lBISZBS2c
Hello everyone and welcome along to another Flat Earth Friday where today, we take a look at Antonio Subirat's Flat Earth map. One in which he feels matches the real world. It is taken from his self published book, The Book of the Sun. Does this map match the real world? And is it even an original idea? Watch until the end where Antonio gets busted for yet more flat Earth plagiarism! Thank you all for watching and I'll see you Tuesday for a brand new Tinfoiler! Dan's opinions shared in this video are supported by verified facts (whether scientific or general) and they should be treated as just that: opinions. Disturbing. Could there be another dimension to all this?
Because the longer this thing goes on the more it smells like a psyop within a psyop. It suggests that the people behind these youtube videos, on BOTH sides of the debate, could ALL be in on it.
Consider the graphics, the effects, and the effort that went into creating, illustrating, and editing these videos. These are professional productions...about what? A premise that is completely absurd. So why? Just WHY? Who is behind it? Who is paying for it? And to what end? I cannot help but be suspicious. I ask, is there more to this than simply a debate between two opposing factions? Is there more to this than distraction?
Could it be that the flat earthers are on the SAME payroll as the anti flat earthers? The dismantling of fake flat earth science is so resounding and complete it's almost a farce at this stage. So why does it persist? Surely these people cannot actually believe what they believe. Are they just actors then, who know very well they're lying? (that's what an actor is, a person paid to lie). The good scientist then comes along and is paid to destroy them, and destroy them he obviously does, to the extent of painting them all as "conspiracy theorists", or in other words lunatics, or in other words mentally deficient, or in other words dangerous.
Look at the set up (and then destruction) of the alternative medicine angle on the back of the flat earth nonsense - the two were stapled together most conveniently. This is insidious. This is tarring with the same brush. The knock on effect of all this becomes ANYONE believing ANY conspiracy theory (flat earth or otherwise) is someone who is mentally deficient. This is possibly what is at the heart of this.

This is the problem here, which I've seen in many other areas. Those who are genuinely well-qualified to debunk some particular 'conspiracy theory' (and some are truly nonsensical) do sometimes cite other 'conspiracy theories' as if they suddenly have an opportunity to laugh at them all. And in those areas which they know little about, they're often wrong.
One example I saw just the other day, which was also interesting. Two ex-scientologists were criticizing Church leader David Miscavige, an evil psychopathic thug who deserves every possible criticism on almost every count — for having interviewed "a guy called Jim Marrs" about his [excellent] book Alien Agenda (https://www.amazon.com/Alien-Agenda-Investigating-Extraterrestrial-Presence/dp/0060955368). They were laughing that Miscavige actually believed in 'Space Aliens'.
What a lot we all have to learn. It may be many generations before we all collectively get it right.

Jim Marrs took money to promote Battlefield Earth for Miscavige. He went out of his way to mention the book in a Coast interview.

Mod note from Bill:
There were several interesting posts specifically about Max Igan here, a discussion about whom had also started on The Messiah Complex thread (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?109734-The-Messiah-Complex). So I made the decision to move all these Mag Igan posts to this new thread, which I think is clearer and easier for anyone who's interested in this.
What just happened to Max Igan? (Jan 2020) (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?109751-What-just-happened-to-Max-Igan--Jan-2020-)
No-one's done anything wrong! :flower: It's just housekeeping, as this is really a new standalone topic. The Flat Earth  I think is a more general problem. Whatever happened to poor Max Igan seems to be a rather different thing to discuss.

Is it wrong for me to say that: on day 1 (years ago) when I was "confronted" with so called (alleged) Flat Earth (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?95559-John-B.-Wells-brilliant-take-on-Flat-Earthers--PsyOp-) "evidence" for the first time, I knew immediately that they gonna use this to discredit all conspiracy researchers and all their controversial topics (like Stop5G (http://stop5g.net) Activism, Anti-Vaxxers etc.) to show how "gullible" we suppose to be and how "easily" we are "fooled" ... And even if you can prove you are against Flat Earth BS ... the harm is already done by those who blindly believe (assume) "all" conspiracy researchers "must" be totally nuts like that: just by framing any controversial topic MIXING with Flat Earthers (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?95559-John-B.-Wells-brilliant-take-on-Flat-Earthers--PsyOp-) claims! And guess what, they already did accuse Stop5G activists being "like Flat Earthers (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?95559-John-B.-Wells-brilliant-take-on-Flat-Earthers--PsyOp-)" in mainstream publications! Especially Australian Mainstream Media months ago ... and now Max Igan is used for that too.

Last week I posted a video about how we know the Earth is round, from the perspective of modern astronomy. The Flat Earth community did not like it one bit, and the channel "Globebusters" decided to talk for three hours on their livestream about how stupid my video is, and how stupid I am. I didn't really appreciate that, so I decided to make a video about their video to illustrate precisely how little they know about science, and to further reinforce how utterly absurd the Flat Earth "model" is, as well as some of the finer points about the conspiracy.

I wonder if we have any "Secret Flat Earthers" in our mids ... I highly doubt it, but if there are some, they have to be really new members as most who are long time members know by now how to apply real discernment skills ... This is what I really like about Project Avalon Forum having higher standards by default. That does not mean everything is "set in stone" especially when something is (highly) controversial. Most who suffer "low attention span disorder (https://www.physio-pedia.com/Attention_Deficit_Disorders)" will have to admit that it is a short-coming an incompetence dealing with deep subjects.

Occasionally we have that mentioned in a membership application, and if they're diehard believers then that's an automatic (but always polite) decline from us.

This Man Plans to Send a Flat Earther Into Space to Convince the Rest to Change

Looking for a way to do something good for a fellow human and perhaps for humanity in general without leaving the comfort of your own easy chair? Do you think Flat Earth believers would change their minds if they could see the round Earth with their very own eyes? A man in Scotland has the perfect way for you to do both!
This campaign is to prove to flat earthers once and for all that the earth is round! It currently takes $250000 to secure a seat on a Virgin Galactic flight to enter the earths orbit.”
Will this convince them?
Attempting to prove that it’s still possible for one person to change the world – or at least change minds, Marc Gauld, a self-proclaimed ‘annoyed Scot’, showed he’s will put his money – OK, someone else’s money – where his mouth is by starting a GoFundMe campaign to end the thing that annoys him the most … Flat Earthers. Gauld believes that if just one Flat Earther would travel into space and see the curvature of the Earth for themselves, they would then come back to Earth and bring fellow Flat Earthers back to their senses with photographs, videos and the sworn testimony of a former true believer.
Once the funds are raised I will hold an application process for high ranking flat earthers to enter if they wish to be the first flat earther in space! One lucky flat earther will be chosen for disappointing the rest of the flat earthers. Please get onboard with this as it is in the name of science and it will finally disprove or prove the flat earth theory and we can finally put this to rest!”
All it takes is money – Gauld has already contacted Richard Branson of Virgin Galactic and Elon Musk of SpaceX for prices and schedules for sending civilians into space, and determined that Virgin Galactic has the best of both – assuming COVID allows the flights to happen and he can raise the money. But first, why is Marc Gauld SO annoyed with Flat Earthers?

In 2017 the US rapper B.o.B (real name Bobby Ray Simmons Jr) started a crowd-funding campaign to launch a satellite. The rapper, a vocal proponent of “flat-Earth theory”, wanted to seek evidence that our planet is a disc, not a globe. His aim was to raise $200,000 (later upped to $1m) on the GoFundMe website, with the aim of sending one or more craft into space to help him “find the curve” – the term that “flat-Earthers” use to describe the edge of our supposed disc-shaped planet.
The rapper’s quest may seem like a joke or publicity stunt. Indeed, there’s currently no evidence that B.o.B raised much money or got anywhere near his goal. However, in the last few years there has been an alarming rise in the number of people who, like B.o.B, believe in flat-Earth theories. There’s now an annual flat-Earth conference in the US – the most recent of which was attended by more than 600 people – while YouTube is full of videos purporting to provide evidence that the Earth is flat.
Physicists may mock the notion of a flat Earth, but the idea is gaining traction, particularly among people susceptible to other conspiracy theories. “They actually really do believe it,” says Lee McIntyre (https://leemcintyrebooks.com/), a philosopher from Boston University (https://www.bu.edu/cphs/) and an expert in the phenomenon of science denial, whose books include Respecting Truth: Wilful Ignorance in the Internet Age (Routledge, 2015). McIntyre knows first-hand how sincerely flat-Earthers hold their views: he attended the 2018 Flat Earth International Conference in Denver, Colorado.
Asheley Landrum, a psychologist from Texas Tech University (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/comc/faculty/faculty/alandrum.php) who was also at the Denver meeting, agrees that flat-Earthers are genuine, and not goofing around. “If they were [trolling], they are very good actors,” she says. “We talked to more than 90 members of the flat-Earth community and they’re all very sincere in their beliefs”. Lectures at the Denver event included “Talking to your family and friends about flat Earth”, “NASA and other space lies” and “14+ ways the Bible says flat Earth”.
Flat-Earth ideas are based on basic scientific misunderstandings that can be easily refuted. For most people, even those who have no physics background, the evidence for a spherical Earth is obvious. So we need to ask ourselves why these ideas still persist in the 21st century and, perhaps more importantly for the physics community: how exactly should we respond?
A circular history
The idea that the Earth is a sphere was all but settled by ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle (384–322 BC), who obtained empirical evidence after travelling to Egypt and seeing new constellations of stars. Eratosthenes, in the third century BC, became the first person to calculate the circumference of the Earth. Islamic scholars made further advanced measurements from about the 9th century AD onwards, while European navigators circled the Earth in the 16th century. Images from space were final proof, if any were needed.
Today’s flat-Earth believers are not, though, the first to doubt what seems unquestionable. The notion of a flat Earth initially resurfaced in the 1800s as a backlash to scientific progress, especially among those who wished to return to biblical literalism. Perhaps the most famous proponent was the British writer Samuel Rowbotham (1816–1884). He proposed the Earth is a flat immovable disc, centred at the North Pole, with Antarctica replaced by an ice wall at the disc’s outer boundary.
The International Flat Earth Research Society, which was set up in 1956 by Samuel Shenton, a signwriter living in Dover, UK, was regarded by many people as merely a symbol of British eccentricity – amusing and of little consequence. But in the early 2000s, with the Internet now a well-established vehicle for off-beat views, the idea began to bubble up again, mostly in the US. Discussions sprouted in online forums, the Flat Earth Society was relaunched in October 2009 and the annual flat-Earth conference began in earnest.

Round impact One manifestation of the Earth being spherical is that low-pressure weather systems rotate anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere due to the Coriolis effect. (Courtesy: Jacques Descloitres, MODIS Rapid Response Team, NASA/GSFC) (https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Low_pressure_system_over_Iceland.jpg)
As with any fringe movement there are disagreements and several different flat-Earth models exist to choose from. Some models propose that the Earth’s edges are surrounded by a wall of ice holding in the oceans. Others suggest our flat planet and its atmosphere are encased in a huge, hemispherical snow globe from which nothing can fall off the edges. To account for night and day, most flat-Earthers think the Sun moves in circles around the North Pole, with its light acting like a spotlight. The most recent “US model”, for example, suggests that the Sun and Moon are 50 km in diameter and circle the disc-shaped Earth at a height of 5500 km, with the stars above this on a rotating dome. Many flat-Earthers also reject gravity, with the “UK model” suggesting that the disc is itself accelerating up at 9.8 m/s2 to give the illusion of gravity.
Physicists will scoff at these ideas, but the worrying thing is that they are spreading rapidly and gaining proponents outside America too. “While they may not be as many , they are as loud as their colleagues in the US,” says Jan Slegr (https://www.uhk.cz/en/person/6274/jan-slegr), a physicist from the University of Hradec Králové (https://www.uhk.cz/en/faculty-of-science/about-faculty/departments/centre-of-advanced-technologies) in the Czech Republic, who in 2018 co-authored a paper outlining ways for teachers and others to confront outlandish flat-Earth ideas with physics (Phys. Educ. 53 045014 (https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1361-6552/aac053)).
Such efforts are important. Alarming polling data by the firm Datafolha, for example, indicate that 7% of the Brazilian population – some 11 million people – believe that the Earth is flat. This shocking number has been attributed to a resurgent evangelical Christian church, but there are also signs that religious fundamentalism is spreading these ideas in Islamic countries too. In 2017 the website Jeune-Afrique reported that a geology student in Tunisia was intending to submit a PhD defending her work on a flat-Earth model.
Conspiracy mentality
It would be easy to dismiss flat-Earthers as simply being misguided due to a lack of education. While there are indications that those susceptible to such views have low levels of scientific literacy, Landrum at Texas Tech says that flat-Earthers aren’t necessarily people who don’t believe in science. “It’s not really an education thing,” she says. “It really is about distrusting authorities and institutions. seems to be based on both a conspiracy mentality and a deeply held belief that looks a lot like religiosity but isn’t necessarily specifically tied to a religion”.
Landrum thinks this conspiracy mentality is linked to science denial and a susceptibility to believing deceptive claims on social media ([I]Politics and the Life Sciences 38 193 (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/politics-and-the-life-sciences/article/role-of-conspiracy-mentality-in-denial-of-science-and-susceptibility-to-viral-deception-about-science/943F0F58B7A2864A0E3121A2C9EE8174)). No longer the domain of a “foil-hat-wearing fringe”, she believes those with a conspiracy mentality have lost the ability to judge when to trust and when to be a sceptic. Their lack of trust in authority includes not just scientists but scientific bodies such as NASA, all of whom (they think) are part of a massive conspiracy to prevent the flat-Earth truth being revealed. “[They] view the world through this really dark filter where [they] assume that all authorities and institutions and corporations are just there to exploit you.”
McIntyre adds that the flat-Earthers he interacted with each believed a selection of conspiracy theories, including that governments control the weather and that chem-trails from aeroplanes consist of chemical or biological agents. “The only one I found that they all believed,” he says, “was that we hadn’t gone to the Moon. If you offer them back evidence, like the view of the Earth from the Moon, they say it’s fake.” Indeed, many flat-Earthers are more invested in the idea of a conspiracy than in providing a workable model of a flat Earth.

Why do people still believe in conspiracy theories? (https://physicsworld.com/a/why-do-people-still-believe-in-conspiracy-theories/)
Nikk Effingham (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/staff/profiles/philosophy/effingham-nikk.aspx), a philosopher at the University of Birmingham (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/ptr/departments/philosophy/index.aspx) in the UK who has met flat-Earthers at a London meet-up, says that we often don’t recognize the extent to which confidence in authority shapes our beliefs. “When we try and prove something like the Earth being round, because it’s a belief that we are so sure of, we under-play the justified role of authority in that,” he says. Most people are therefore comfortable accepting the world is a globe, even if they can’t immediately recount the scientific evidence.
Flat-Earthers seem to have a very low standard of evidence for what they want to believe but an impossibly high standard of evidence for what they don’t want to believe
Lee McIntyre, Boston UniversityBut that’s not the case for those mired in a conspiracy mentality. What’s also clear is that the rise in flat-Earth beliefs has been fuelled by the Internet and YouTube videos in particular. “Almost everybody that we spoke to said that either they were directly exposed to flat Earth on YouTube or they were exposed to it via a family member who was exposed to it on YouTube,” says Landrum. Flat-Earth videos often present numerous arguments in rapid succession with what Landrum dubs “an illusion of fluency”.
Key to the videos’ success has also been the algorithms that serve them up to viewers of other conspiracy-related content. “The algorithms facilitate the normalizing of conspiracies and the feeling of a consensus within your community,” explains Landrum. “Flat Earth is just another example of that.” In 2019 YouTube did acknowledge the problem and said it would be tweaking its algorithm to reduce its recommendations of conspiracy-theory videos. But the fact remains that the videos are still on its platform.
Proving the Earth isn’t flat
It was McIntyre’s work on science denial that led him to the 2018 flat-Earth conference in Denver, where delegates spent time discussing the “evidence” and finer details of their theory as well as the supposed conspiracy that flat-Earthers believe is shielding their ideas from the wider public. “I thought that if I could understand how to push back against flat-Earthers, I could use the same techniques to fight back against climate-change deniers and anti-vaxxers,” he says. After all, their ideas are all generally based on fallacies and misunderstanding of science. “Some of the flat-Earthers know enough physics to throw around the vocabulary, but they don’t actually understand enough physics to be compelled by the truth.”
https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Foucault-pendulum-Griffith-Park-observatory-LA-486786223-iStock_Meinzahn-635x953.jpg (https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Foucault-pendulum-Griffith-Park-observatory-LA-486786223-iStock_Meinzahn.jpg)
Time curve The plane of a free-swinging Foucault’s pendulum shifts with time, proving that the Earth is round. (https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Foucault-pendulum-Griffith-Park-observatory-LA-486786223-iStock_Meinzahn.jpg)
But even without the visual confirmation of pictures taken from space, many of the arguments used by flat-Earth proponents can be easily dismissed with trigonometry or basic physical laws. A good place to start is with a Foucault’s pendulum, the device named after the French physicist Léon Foucault, who in 1851 famously hung a heavy 28 kg brass bob from a 67 m chain in the Panthéon in Paris. Such a pendulum, which can swing in any plane, changes direction during the course of a day, yielding direct evidence of the Earth’s rotation. (Though as Slegr points out, that hasn’t stopped some flat-Earthers claiming that all Foucault pendulums are fraudulent and that museums use magnetic coils to turn the plane of the pendulum’s rotation to make the Earth seem to rotate.)
Another phenomenon that proves the Earth is a spinning globe is the Coriolis force, which acts perpendicular to the direction of motion of a spinning mass. This force leads to cylones swirling clockwise in the southern hemisphere and counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere; through the direction of winds, it also impacts ocean currents. Long-range military snipers even have to make allowance for deflections caused by the Coriolis effect. Indeed, as Slegr points out, getting physics students to explain the evidence for a spherical spinning Earth is a great critical-thinking exercise.
But that deep critical thinking is what’s often missing among flat-Earthers. Consider photos of distant skylines, which are often wheeled out as “proof” that the Earth is flat. In his interactions with flat-Earth theorists, McIntyre was commonly shown a picture of Chicago, taken from Lake Michigan, in which the city’s skyscrapers are clearly visible despite being viewed from a distance of 100 km out. “Given the curvature of the Earth, you shouldn’t be able to see the skyline of the city from that far out,” he says.
The reason the buildings are visible, as McIntyre knows, lies in the fact that air directly above the water’s surface is colder than the air higher up. This inverse temperature gradient means that light rays refract toward the colder, denser air, allowing an image of the reflected skyline, formed on the water below the horizon, to appear almost hovering above the horizon (figure 1). This notion can easily be verified by taking a photo even further away, where the “superior mirage” will disappear.
1 Why distant skyscrapers are visible despite the curvature of the Earth
https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/FATAMORGANA-chicago-635x423.jpg (https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/FATAMORGANA-chicago.jpg)
This photo was taken from Mount Baldy in Indiana Dunes National Park on the south-east coast of Lake Michigan, roughly 60 km across the water from the city of Chicago, which lies on the opposite bank. At that distance, Chicago’s skyline should not be visible as the curvature of the Earth takes it beyond the horizon. The fact that the buildings are visible is in fact simply a mirage. Mirages are usually created when a cold, dense layer of air sits above a layer of warmer, less dense air, for example when the Sun beats down on a black road on a hot summer’s day. The warm ground heats the bottom few centimetres of air, refracting sunlight up to your eyes to create an “inferior mirage”. But if a layer of warm air sits above your line of sight, with a cool layer beneath, you get a “superior mirage”. Light bends down towards the denser air, but because our eyes assume the light has travelled in a straight line, the object appears higher than it is. The effect also explains why a far-off ship can be seen even though it might have dipped below the horizon. It can even make distant boats appear to float in the air.
https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/PWJul20Brazil-mirage-635x304.png (https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/PWJul20Brazil-mirage.png)
But, as McIntyre found, this type of reasoning is unlikely to convince flat-Earthers. “They seem to have a very low standard of evidence for what they want to believe but an impossibly high standard of evidence for what they don’t want to believe.” One of their key experimental tools is a Nikon P900 camera with a ×83 optical zoom, in which flat-Earthers place an almost religious faith. Able to capture details not visible to the naked eye, they hope to use it to show that objects don’t disappear over the horizon but come back into view when examined at high enough resolution.
McIntyre described his frustrations with flat-Earthers in a paper last year in the [I]American Journal of Physics (87 694) (https://aapt.scitation.org/doi/full/10.1119/1.5117828), in which he challenged physicists to come up with simple, straightforward answers to refute the “evidence” for a flat Earth that could be understood by a general audience. Someone who rose to the bait was retired physicist Bruce Sherwood (https://brucesherwood.net/), who realized that “just citing the scientific facts is not going to convince anybody”. Instead, given that flat-Earthers place so much emphasis on naked-eye observations, he and colleague Derek Roff decided to create a navigable 3D computer simulation of a flat Earth (https://www.glowscript.org/#/user/Bruce_Sherwood/folder/Pub/program/FlatEarth) to see how well it could replicate what we see.
Based on the US version of the flat-Earth model, it allows anyone to virtually roam a flat world. “Walking round in it, there were many things that show tremendous discrepancies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBhDP7IwkfE&feature=youtu.be),” says Sherwood. One of the major problems is the size and brightness of the Sun. In the flat-Earth model this varies by more than a factor of two from sunrise to midday, something we obviously do not see. The night sky also differs. In the northern hemisphere we see constellations rising in the east and arcing across the sky but in the flat-Earth model they would just circle at a constant height. “What [Sherwood] has created is something that’s much harder for [flat-Earth proponents] to laugh off, because it takes their own views seriously, [and] traces out the consequences,” says McIntyre. “I think that on this basis, other physicists can go out and help to push.”
"Dangerous" liaisons
From McIntyre’s perspective, flat-Earth conspiracies are a danger and need confronting. “Maybe 10 or 20 years ago, I would have said, just laugh at them, how much traction are they going to get? I no longer feel that way.” If these ideas are not challenged, he fears that as with supporters of “intelligent design”, proponents of a flat Earth will start running for US school boards, looking to push their ideas into the US education system. “The sort of reasoning that they use is infectious and if you don’t push back against them, it just gets worse and they’re able to recruit new members,” he warns.
https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/universe-expanding-1168224012-iStock_magann-square.jpg
A flat-Earth fight, an inconsistent Hubble constant, and carbon atoms at a graphene ‘watering hole’
(https://physicsworld.com/a/a-flat-earth-fight-an-inconsistent-hubble-constant-and-carbon-atoms-at-a-graphene-watering-hole/)But Effingham, who has also interacted with flat-Earthers on Facebook, wonders if physics is the place to start combating these conspiracy-based ideas. “I’m not saying that the perfect formula doesn’t have some kind of physics argument in it, but just turning on a YouTube video of physics lectures is not going to do it.” Instead, Effingham has tried to get flat-Earthers to understand that, by watching YouTube videos, they too are slavishly following an authority – not a scientific authority, but the authority of whoever is proposing the conspiracy theories they subscribe to.
Effingham also tries to point out their inconsistencies. “Every position they took required a different view of the conspiracy, and required the conspiracy to be bigger or smaller, and it was impossible to get a consistent conspiracy going that explained everything.” McIntyre, for example, recalls asking one flat-Earther (https://aapt.scitation.org/doi/10.1119/1.5117828) why planes flying over Antarctica from, say, Chile to New Zealand don’t have to refuel, which they’d have to if the continent were (as they believe) an ice wall tens of thousands of kilometres long. He was simply told that planes can fly on one tank of fuel and refuelling planes could just be a giant hoax to stop us realizing that the Earth is flat.
Joining forces The rise in flat-Earth beliefs is partly due to the erosion of trust in science, which will require action on the part of scientists to rebuild. (https://physicsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/hands-in-unity-486382364-iStock_prawny.jpg)
Landrum agrees the underlying problem is one of trust rather than physics. “We really should figure out as a scientific community, and as a society as a whole, how we can start building back trust in our organizations and institutions.” And she feels we need to do this face-to-face. “I don’t mean go yell at them on Twitter – that’s not engaging.” It’s also vital, she says, for scientists not to patronize flat-Earthers but to take questions seriously. That may seem like an excruciatingly painful process, but a necessary one, for people to gain trust in science as an institution again.
A level of sustained personal engagement can change minds. “It does work to push back against science deniers,” argues McIntyre, pointing to current NASA boss Jim Bridenstine. He was appointed by Donald Trump in 2018 and was known to have disputed climate change. “ once [he] became head of NASA, within a matter of two months or so, he changed his mind on climate change, and publicly said, ‘I was wrong’,” says McIntyre. The difference was that the evidence was presented to him by scientists he had grown to trust.
Oddly, Landrum says that many flat-Earthers may distrust scientists, but they are not against the scientific method. “The majority of them put a lot of faith, for lack of a better word, in science. There’s a lot of curiosity and a lot of scepticism and a lot of the really good qualities that make scientists.” But while the spirit of experimentation may be there, flat-Earthers are not always prepared to change their minds when their experiments fail. And that’s why McIntrye hopes some physicists might go with him to future flat-Earth conferences.
“I think that physicists need to be more involved,” he says. “There’s really no excuse for us to just sit back and laugh at them. Because while we’re laughing, they are recruiting people to believe these "crazy things.”

Interesting interview, John.
I found this quite a chilling comment:

I've often wondered if there has been some force or backing hidden out of sight behind the flat earth movement, given how prevalent it seems to have become, as the MSM seems to be equating that with other conspiracy research that has a tangible basis.

The first time I ever heard of 'the flat earth' was in the late 80's when I listened to the exceptionally beautiful track 'The Flat Earth' by Thomas Dolby. (The fishes go amazingly well with the music).

'The Flat Earth Society'.
The modern age of the Flat Earth Society dates back to the early 1800s, when it was founded by Samuel Birley Rowbotham, an English inventor. Samuel Rowbotham's Flat Earth views were based largely on literal interpretation of Bible passages. His system, called Zetetic Astronomy, held that the earth is a flat disk centered at the North Pole and bounded along its 'southern' edge by a wall of ice, with the sun, moon, planets, and stars only a few hundred miles above the surface of the earth. After Rowbotham's death in 1884, followers of his Zetetic Astronomy founded the Universal Zetetic Society.

Testing a Flat Earthers "Irrefutable" Proof

A timelapse of the Milky Way that was recorded using an equatorial tracking mount over a period of around 3 hours to show Earth's rotation relative to the Milky Way.
I guess, according to the flat earth (non) model, we should by 40 seconds in all be slipping and tumbling off the edge of our disc, or whatever shape they think the world is.

Does anyone know how they could actually film this ? Thanks.

It does use a bit of camera trickery in fairness, so no wonder it upset the flat-heads.
"A timelapse of the Milky Way that was recorded using an equatorial tracking mount over a period of around 3 hours to show Earth's rotation relative to the Milky Way."
So basically the camera is tracking a fixed point in the sky to simulate the earth's rotation.

I've often wondered if there has been some force or backing hidden out of sight behind the flat earth movement, given how prevalent it seems to have become, as the MSM seems to be equating that with other conspiracy research that has a tangible basis.
Yep definitely, see the early posts of this thread. A psy-op is exactly what the flat-earth 'conspiracy' is. And to what end? It isn't an experiment to try and persuade more people to believe in the lie that the earth is flat, or even to distract the truth movement by having us endlessly debate and attack flat-earthers. It isn't even, really, as assault against we conspiracy theorists either. The overriding target of this psy-op campaign is not us, but the normies. It's to sway their opinion, because they are the majority.
This is psychological warfare at its finest (worst), the desired outcome being: create the assumption in the minds of the normies that ultimately, anyone who believes these conspiracy theories (flat earth or anything else) must be someone who is mentally deficient.
For a start, anti-vaxxers are viewed - by many a normie - as now belonging to the same category as those dumb flat-earthers.

It is interesting to see that some analysts discern this overall distrust in 'The Authorities' as being a major motivator behind the Flat Earth movement on the Internet, rather than educational deficiency, it is this suspicion that draws a lot of nascent critical thinkers into their web. The questioning of firmly accepted ideas is important, because so many of us do hold 'given ideas' very closely, without actually knowing with certainty if they are strictly true, or credible, I can see how this works in a certain type of mind. I have always thought this flowering of the Flat Earth questioning to have some valuable elements, I am NOT suggesting there is any merit in the concept itself, but the spirit of push-back and suspicion is at least understandable in one sense.
I do however think there is a lot of substance to this idea the Flat Earth movement was hijacked as a kind of counter Troll to alternative research, and the persistence of doubt towards mainstream narratives and science.
It is all too convenient for mainstream science journalists and self satisfied Normies to club everyone who questions the given wisdom of governments, and bureaucrats into this category; this is something I know is happening at 'street level' because I was butting heads with my own older brother recently about David Icke, who he labelled a 'Flat Earther', and he further went on to say he did not mean that literally, but all these 'conspiracy nuts' were called Flat Earthers in his circle.
It is interesting how this has evolved, and how powerful the idea has become to discredit alternative ideas and research with this label. Unfortunately, it has worked very well to sway the normies in large numbers!

I couldn't agree more. I've also seen people call, and have been called flat earther myself for talking about some unpopular opinions. (and i'm not even a "preachy" dude, I keep most of my opinions to myself, specially irl)
Yet I can see it obviously being created with the goal of discrediting people, specially regarding the vaccine issues. Creating a "nutjob people bag" and throwing all the threatening opinions in there.
Also the rollout of it was basic social engineering. A s***ton of internet bots, memes, and more than a cameo on mainstream media.
Nothing so silly (and old!) has such succes without an objective behind it.

I can talk for hours non-stop to disprove all flat-earth assumptions from memory not using any notes ... as I am Asperger (extreme eye for detail visually & audio memory) studied most "Flat Earth (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?95559-The-Flat-Earth-PsyOp--and-John-B.-Wells-brilliant-take-)" Videos & Articles years ago after some F.E. people pushed me & "challenged" me multiple times.
But one that stands out (empirical evidence):
Everybody can put a stick in the ground when the Sun is shining (no clouds) and study the shadow movement each hour ... that turns out to be 15 degrees change per hour!! ... Which makes perfect sense for a globe as 24 times 15 degrees = 360 degrees (= Full Circle) ... when you study Flat Earth Model ("theory") ... and imagine you would put a stick in the ground analyzing the shadow of that model IT WILL NOT PRODUCE 15 degrees change per hour ... period!
https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-b60c42eec29a264004d17eb16712d4de.webp
This alone should wake up any "Flat Earther (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?95559-The-Flat-Earth-PsyOp--and-John-B.-Wells-brilliant-take-)" unless they do not want to use any brain cells and rather stick to endless flawed "reasoning" being debunked over and over and over. So sad. Wasting our times exposing an obvious PsyOp (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_warfare) and all victims who are falling for it helping to discredit anyone who is in to genuine conspiracy research. So many times I heard "5G protesters are like Flat Earthers" or "Any Exposing The Great Reset Agenda2030 are like "Flat Earthers" etc. etc. etc. It perfectly fits/serves to downplay all real conspiracy research.
Please study this Project Avalon Forum Thread: tinyurl.com/FlatEarthPsyop (http://tinyurl.com/FlatEarthPsyop) (updated!)
After studying this link nobody can claim: "I did not know it was that bad!"
How would we know. Is it round, I don't know.
Have you ever asked anyone how to know for sure WHY The Earth is a globe? ... Because that has been answered so many times it is not funny anymore ... Most is common sense + logic + empirical evidence that actually works you can test yourself (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?115588-HOAX-The-Lost-History-of-Flat-Earth-What-on-Earth-Happened&p=1438843&viewfull=1#post1438843) which disproves "Flat Earth Model Theory" in a heartbeat.
David Icke uses the "Holographic Universe Principle" to allow us to focus on much more important things and let it be one way or the other and move on... NOT because he is a "Flat Earther" he isn't ... In my view he is trying to be "diplomatic" about it hoping we can "get along" .. meanwhile all serious conspiracy research is discredited connecting it to those who also believe in crazy "Flat Earth theories". Even if we can show we are NOT Flat Earthers most who read the hit-peaces against us have no time to check the validity of the sold claims. So they assume we all are "nuts". (MSM Psywar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_warfare) mission accomplished!).

7 Ways You Can Easily Prove That The Earth Is Not Flat
Pretty much everyone knows the Earth is a globe. But a very, very small minority of us cling inexplicably to the idea of a flat Earth.
So, with everyone staying inside over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, we thought it was the perfect time to compile the ways you can prove that the Earth most definitely a globe.
01. Look Upwards
https://s3.stolenhistory.net/stolenhistory-net/data/attachments/9/9406-7ddee0af98a6c565993abdf36147ab3e.jpg (https://stolenhistory.net/attachments/giphy-24-gif.9406/)
Yep, this one's pretty simple. When you look up at the night sky, you can only see certain constellations from certain points on Earth. Someone in Australia will see a different sky to someone in England at night - for example, you can't see Polaris, the North Star, from the southern hemisphere. If the Earth was flat, everyone would be able to see the same constellations.
02. Look Down
An equally straightforward way to prove the Earth is not flat is to simply measure your shadow. If you get two people at different distances from the equator, and they measure their shadows at the same time, their shadows will be different lengths. But if the Earth was flat, their shadows would be the same. Eratosthenes, who conducted a version of this experiment (https://www.khanacademy.org/partner-content/nasa/measuringuniverse/measure-the-solarsystem/a/a-flat-earth), knew this 3,000 years ago
03. Weigh Yourself
https://s3.stolenhistory.net/stolenhistory-net/data/attachments/9/9407-e049911e1cfc583a6bf2ea0bf089596b.jpg (https://stolenhistory.net/attachments/giphy-25-gif.9407/)
Gravity, which pulls everyone towards the centre of our planet's mass, means we weigh the same wherever we are in the world. But a flat Earth would mean that those at the edge of the disk would be pulled sideways, while those at the centre would be pulled down. To iron out this problem, Flat Earthers have concluded there is no such thing as gravity - you know, that force that pretty much holds the entire Universe together. But if they were correct, you would not be able to weigh yourself at all. You would also be dead (https://www.bbcearth.com).
04. Take a trip to Antarctica
Flat Earthers argue that Antarctica is actually a massive ice wall around a flat Earth. But, if that were true, the countless planes that fly over Antarctica would surely have just... fallen off?
05. Check your Watch
https://s3.stolenhistory.net/stolenhistory-net/data/attachments/9/9408-5458e2a02fcbe23fd6ff915308fb5a55.jpg (https://stolenhistory.net/attachments/istock-518386100-jpg.9408/)
To explain seasons, Flat Earthers argue that the sun orbits in a circle above us. But that doesn't explain time zones, though this is their attempt, which shows the sun as some kind of spotlight, Everyone whose ever used a torch at night knows you can see its beam from the side - and that would apply to a flat Earth too.
06. Grab a Compass
Our planet has a magnetic field generated by the molten iron at the core of our planet. If the Earth was flat, it would have no core (https://news.climate.columbia.edu/2018/01/24/flat-earth-what-would-happen/). And even if it had a flat layer of liquid metal instead, the planet wouldn't rotate in a way that created a magnetic field.
07. Grab a Pendulum
This famous experiment was first demonstrated in 1851 by Leon Foucault and is now found in museums around the world. If you watch a pendulum for long enough, you'll notice it starts to swing in a slightly different direction, which proves (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/how-does-foucaults-pendulum-prove-earth-rotates-180968024) the Earth is rotating beneath your feet.

Me: Let's never forget that ANYBODY living on Earth can use a stick and stick it in a ground to let it make a shadow when the Sun shines ... then measuring how much degrees it changes every hour ... than you realize it is 15 degrees per hour no matter where you are ... Now why do you think 15 degrees change per hour is so super significant?
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/144XnK7nySQ/hqdefault.jpg
360 degrees (circle) divided by 24 = 15 degrees! ... this super duper obvious insight means that can never work on a "Flat Earth Model" (Theory) ... you can talk in to infinity trying to explain Flat Earth "Calculus Model" ... but it does not fly with real life empirical evidence (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empirical_evidence) we all can test/experiment ourselves the moment we have a sunny day!
Please don't be afraid to use real common sense & pure logic they lack!

Your Welcome :)
Most "Neutrals" who do not decide to go either way ... can best be educated using below quote of mine to debunk the "Flat Earth Model Theory" in a super simple & super self-exploratory way:
...and I quote myself here:
"Anybody living on Earth can use a stick and stick it in a ground to let it make a shadow when the Sun shines ... then measuring how much degrees it changes every hour ... than you realize it is 15 degrees per hour no matter where you are ... Now why do you think 15 degrees change per hour is so super significant?

1 day has 24 Hours ... 1 hour = 15 degree change of the Sun-shadow of a pole you stick in the ground leaving a shadow when on a Sunny day! ...
24 times 15 = 360! ... and what is 360 degrees per 24 hours? ... A circle ... and you can not make an animation where you have 15 degrees per hour change anywhere on a "Flat Earth Model" ... That is a fact!
"Do the math" even if you are not good at math you still can see the logic I hope :bowing:
Using "Flat Earth Model" logic, you're supposed to see The Sun in Australia when you are in the USA and vice versa ... Sun-set and Sun-rise is "alien" to them <<< Am not saying they claim that but all "Flat Earth Model animations" shows "rotating of the Sun" completely different from real reality! ... That is why I bring this up.
In the very early beginnings of Flat Earth Videos, they even discuss that the Sun goes "smaller" and does not set ... not going down behind the horizon ... That alone is enough to LAUGH at them all in the infinity.
Many who are 100% sane will see all of this as a "waste of time" ... not realizing how many "neutrals" are tempted to be lured in to their pushed narratives. Thinking there is a "conspiracy".

A rare post of mine on this thread. :) To my considerable delight, Chris Martenson (none other) suggests exactly the same thing as John B. Wells did, the real theme of this long thread — that this is all an intel-agency-created psyop. (I too am very sure of this.)
Doesn't last long, but start in at 3:50 to enjoy.

(12/17/21) is Dr. Chris Martenson, here to discuss the many different lies surrounding the COVID-19 narrative and how these lies created a mass psychosis in a large portion of the population. This then led to the abuse of that psychosis (ironically under a guise of health) to drive the masses into accepting an authoritarian future, which they are now being convinced is not only in their best interest but also a foregone conclusion -- so we should just resign ourselves to their New Normal.

How can something be "objective, demonstrable, empirical" on the one hand, and yet not debatable on the other???? Is there any theory about our physical reality that is immune to reasonable discussion, logical analysis, critical thinking????

Is there any theory about our physical reality that is immune to reasonable discussion, logical analysis, critical thinking????
I can think of one, viruses.
There is zero science based evidence that suggests that viruses cause disease.
By that I mean that there have been zero controlled experiments that indicate that viruses cause disease, much less experiments that can be replicated.
But you are not allowed to talk about this.
Virologists today define "isolation" as taking a human sample and adding it to a bunch of other stuff, then using a computer to combine small pieces of DNA into what they call a virus.
In the past virologists defined "isolation" as taking a human sample and adding to a bunch of other stuff in a petri dish. If they saw that cells died in a petri dish "They isolated a virus"
Other subjects that are similar include "Big Bang Theory", "Evolution", "Global Warming"
All three of the above along with virus have zero science based evidence that support them but everyone believes it, and you are "not allowed to talk about it"

"Nasa is in the pursuit of truth, it is primarily a scientific organisation. They publish their findings, no matter what they will be."
Well here ScimanDan is quite wrong. If there's one thing these flat-heads are in fact right about, it's that Nasa lie. They lie a lot. They've lied since the beginning. But not about the reality of space, or that the earth is round...
They lie about what exactly they are doing up there, and that they are not alone when up there. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some of these flat earth shills are simply running interference - in the alt community - on behalf of Nasa.

Oh absolutely, there's no doubt about that, especially his view of Nasa. But he's fighting the good fight against the flat earth morons. His videos do contain some educational value, and plenty of entertainment also, so I thank him for that.
But it's interesting what you said about him not being all that bright. I think he's plenty bright, but at the same time not very perceptive. There's an important distinction between the two.
It's possible to be a genius and a total idiot at the same time. Case in point the flat earthers themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were in fact quite smart, cognitively speaking. But beliefs do not always follow perception, because beliefs are often blind, they wear a blindfold, and sometimes that blindfold is too comfortable to remove. This theme reminds me of this thread: Belief Wars (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?119382-Belief-Wars) where you succinctly laid it all out.

Actually in my view, this forum does not need any "new updates" nor "better insights" nor "different new perspectives" anymore as almost everything that are the main key issues & main important debunking has already been shared ad nauseam ... even less than 10% is enough to already come to a full conclusion >> if you are smart enough sifting through all "pros & cons".
The only reason I share (adding) sometimes new stuff on this "Debunking F.E. PsyOp Thread" is for new members to see that this P.A. Forum Thread (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?95559-The-Flat-Earth-PsyOp--and-John-B.-Wells-brilliant-take-) exists! ;)

Two-stage amateur rocket flight to 293,488 ft (55.6 mi/89.5 km). This rocket is called MESOS (short for mesosphere) because it is designed to fly there. The mesosphere is the third layer of Earth's atmosphere situated between 31 and 53 miles (50-85 km) above the surface. The amazing part about this rocket is it reached this altitude on less than 41,000 N-s of total impulse (full O-class high power rocket motor)! Capable of carrying the equivalent of a 16 oz can of beer/energy drink as a payload, this rocket flew two GoPro Hero 9s with modified rectilinear lenses. Both stages are recovered via parachutes and are reusable. This video covers the development and the launch of this record breaking rocket. I hope you enjoy it!

I never in my wildest dreams thought an amateur could design, build, and deploy a rocket that could climb to fifty-six miles above the earth, travel at Mach 2.24 with first stage and attain Mach 4'.18 with the second stage, those figures are unbelievable, in fact out of this world. To think you recovered both stages intact is a massive bonus. Kudos to you dude and I hoe you are employed in the space program somewhere because space exploration needs geniuses much like yourself. Thanks for sharing.

Man confused by moon...
A strange title, I admit. Not the "confused" part, but the "man". I was a bit confused by the moon myself once, but I figured it out aged seven by reading peter & jane type books about space. I still have one of those books today.
The moon is still very mysterious, that's true -- there are many unanswered questions. But I feel as a species we've got the basics down, and I think they've been down for a few thousands years now. But this "man" doesn't agree. With his "man" senses and "man" intellect, and seemingly otherwise balanced and sane (and not on drugs), he lacks even a basic grasp of what was basic to me aged seven.
I'm starting to wonder if some part of our population aren't walk-ins from the vegetable kingdom (although, to be fair to my cabbages that's a rather mean comparison).
Because the flat earth, or "domed earth" with moon and sun as a projection is still very much alive. No amount of arguing seems to have any effect on them. Nothing ever gets through. Not logic, not evidence, not proof.
I first thought of posting this video in the thread titled Why humans are unintelligent: it's all about belief (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?114787-Why-humans-are-unintelligent-it-s-all-about-belief/page5). It seemed to apply and very much so.

The Easiest Simple Observation To Disprove "Flat Earth Model"?
BHa4AJwZDZg
Observations claimed by flat earthers to debunk the globe often involve viewing distant objects, but they can be difficult to replicate due to various factors such as location, variables, and mathematics. A simpler observation to understand the Earth's shape involves seeing the bottoms of airplanes lit by the sun during sunrise or sunset. The reflection of sunlight off the underside of airplanes is evidence of the Earth's curvature, as it wouldn't be possible on a flat Earth. Flat earthers' explanations, such as planes flying nose up, don't account for the observed phenomena. Calculations and observations demonstrate that the reflection of sunlight off airplanes' undersides is consistent with the globe model and refutes flat Earth claims. Videos of high-altitude plane spotting provide clear evidence of sunlight reflecting off airplane undersides, further debunking flat Earth theories.

It was kind of convenient that this Flat Earth faction gained traction when it did and it certainly seems plausible that the Western intelligence community promoted this, or at least enabled it to proliferate - thus discrediting the 'Truth' community because any old cracked ideas which can be levelled as coming from the critical thinking sectors of our community works to prevent the spread of critical thinking: if you are seen to support any of these ideas you are immediately ostracized and removed from being credible. I have a friend who works in a very conservative "Normie" occupation, building compliance e.t.c...anyway she is regarded as a nut-case because she questions Covid narratives and so forth, but because she is very capable they cannot just get rid of her. Today we are confronted by this resistance to critical thinking, it is far easier to simply nod your head and go along with the official word. In some ways this flat earth business 'can' lead to further questioning, and thus result in some worthy logic work, ironically it could potentially result in an alternative perspective: I get that asking questions is the first step, but of course this flat earth concept is incorrect...but is this really the point?

I agree with this point of view Mike, Flat Earth serves as sort of a relief valve for many waking normies who find themselves at odds with the official narrative. Because a Flat Earth contradicts said narrative, they latch on to it, believing it therefore must be true.
Unfortunately, they are yet to exercise the second, most important, step in the waking process. Critical thinking. That takes a long time to cultivate and sharpen, and thus the danger -- allowing an inquisitive yet blunt mind to fixate on a logical fallacy. A point is reached when no amount of evidence to the contrary will convince them. If the official line claims A) then it must be B), no matter what.

Sabine is fun to listen to sometimes, but (like many other well-intentioned Flat Earth debunkers, of course quite correct about everything she says about Flat-Earthers) she mixes things up, and leans much too far towards "trust the science, and trust the science authorities".
In her video at 1:04 she makes a passing visual reference to the Moon Landings (she's wrong in her implied criticism), and she definitely trusts the mainstream media way too much. She's sure that climate change is man-made, and in a different video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1ZZ-Yni8Fg) a few weeks ago she bemoans the collapse of German industrialization but has no clue that this is all caused by the German government's sanctions against Russia.
It's a perfect example of how someone highly educated (and clearly with a high intellect) is still driven by their own beliefs and convictions, so very easily influenced by propaganda. Sadly, we see this all the time now.

In the height of the Antarctic summer, the sun never sets. This is a problem for Flat Earthers.
In a project dubbed The Final Experiment, a group of Flat Earth proponents traveled to Antarctica at the height of summer in the southern hemisphere, expecting to witness the sun go down. It went almost exactly like you’d expect, with at least one person cautiously admitting a few pillars of his beliefs had been shaken (https://futurism.com/the-byte/flat-earthers-befuddled-round). But others held fast to a concept that’s been negated in ways both theoretical and practical for two-and-a-half millennia.

Will Duffy, left, who is not a Flat Earther, thought his project would convince the Flat Earth community how wrong they are.
Let’s pause here for a moment.
For any of this to make even a lick of sense, you are going to have to learn a little something about what the Flat Earth movement believes. Here it is in bullet points, so we don’t have to spend more time on it than absolutely necessary.
Flat Earthers still exist, and they believe we live on a disc instead of a globe.
They have all kinds of reasons for this, none of which are very good.
One of their beliefs is that Antarctica is a narrow strip of land that circles the “disc,” with a gigantic sea in the middle. All the rest of the continents exist in the middle of this gigantic sea.
Because of this, there is no such thing as 24-hour sunshine in Antarctica. It would have to get dark somewhere along that big ring island.
A powerful group of [insert a variety of conspiracy theories here] have banded together to keep Flat Earthers from visiting Antarctica to prove this.
Here’s a helpful depressing visual aid.

Duffy proposed The Final Experiment (https://www.the-final-experiment.com/) — a project that ultimately took Duffy, four Flat Earth influencers (yes, that’s a thing), and four round earthers (otherwise known as regular people) to Union Glacier, Antarctica, earlier this month. There, they observed the 24-hour sun firsthand. Then they recorded a 50-minute YouTube livestream.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_LNSbStu9c
“I created The Final Experiment to end this debate once and for all. After we go to Antarctica, no one has to waste any more time debating the shape of the Earth,” Duffy, in one of the most charmingly naive statements ever voiced in the internet age, said of the project (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/pastor-taking-flat-earthers-to-antarctica-to-end-the-debate-302322775.html).
But don’t get Duffy wrong. He’s no Flat Earther. His intention seems to have been the genuine offer of a directly observable piece of evidence — one that Flat Earthers couldn’t ignore or explain away via tangled conspiracy theory.
That’s commendable, but unfortunately for Duffy and humanity’s chances of ever making it into the United Federation of Planets, that’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works (https://youtu.be/Aq_1l316ow8).
“Sometimes you are wrong in life”
At least one Flat Earth influencer — Jeran Campanella, and no, I’m not going to link to his YouTube — was willing to make a small concession.
“Sometimes you are wrong in life,” Campanella said in the video. “I thought there was no 24-hour sun. In fact, I was pretty sure of it. I realize that I’ll be called a shill for just saying that, and you know what, if you’re a shill for being honest, so be it — I honestly believed there was no 24-hour sun. I honestly now believe there is.”
You have to give Campanella this; he knows his people. Shrieks of “shill” immediately echoed across the live stream chat window. Campanella then hedged, making it clear that the existence of a 24-hour sun does not negate his flat earth beliefs. It merely provides him and others with an unexplainable phenomenon.
Other Flat Earthers on the expedition had similar views. They couldn’t deny what they witnessed but expressed confidence that it would somehow fit into their existing worldview, given enough time and “research.” Even this slight nod to reality was a bridge too far for many viewers, who spent a good deal of time talking about green screens.
So it goes.

100%. FE gained traction again, conveniently, just after the truth movement had coalesced into a coherent movement courtesy of 9/11. What better way to divide and conquer such a movement? Textbook imo.
Thanks all, here a partial hypothesis for those most flabbergasted:
1. IQ studies have shown that we have three 'dimensions' in our thinking:
- Math, Verbal and -- Spatial.
2. Each of us can be strong in one, and weak in another.
3. Flat-earthers (honest ones) seem to be especially weak in 'spatial' (and visual) ability.
4. Those of us with strong spatial ability (mostly males, and of those most in 'engineering') cannot understand what is wrong with those 'smart' writers.
Follows: Flat earthers cannot be told or taught -- at all.

Flat Earthers & Space Is Fakers: Cults Who Don't Know They Are Cults:
NbWYKh6GmUU
Flat earthers have a sibling you may not have heard of, the space-is-fake bunch, which has been getting nasty and pushy. Both these groups are not just fueled by misunderstanding. They are cults.
A flat earther died and went to heaven. Upon reaching the pearly gates he asked God, God will you please tell me once and for all, what shape did you make the earth? God spoke unto the flerf, "my son, I made the earth a globe, you science denying windowlicker!" To which the flat earther said, OMG this conspiracy runs deeper than i thought!!

If anyone needs a few minutes of light relief., this is a whole bunch of fun. (Even more fun may be narrator DipperDog's infectious laughter.)
It all goes by pretty fast, and I found I had to pause the video in one or two places to take a good look at the jokes. :))

It occurred to me yesterday while following the latest SpaceX Starship launch, now equipped with a bunch of hi-res Starlink cameras on the ship in its suborbital path, that it's now near-impossible for intellectually blinded Flat Earthers to continue to insist that all this is somehow faked.
Below are just three captures from the real-time video feed, and more are easily found. (Or alternatively, just watch the SpaceX video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tvK7flZ72c)!)
Does anyone know if the Flat Earth community is now nearing its inevitable extinction? :)

High quality images of the Earth from space have been available since at least the Gemini program in the mid-60's. And that's long before CGI, AI, and photoshop. Not that these morons ever took any notice!

An interesting video for a couple of reasons: :)
The guy in the video who was a Flat Earther had never in all his life seen the ocean before. (This is actually true for more Americans than we might assume.)
Then they set up a telescope to watch a sailboat steadily disappearing over the horizon. This convinced the Flat Earther that he'd been quite wrong — a change of view that really doesn't often happen. (And kudos to him, it has to be said.)
Skip through the irritating promotion in the video... the rest is quite fun to see.
