My "Sky Notes"Event went well yesterday.

below i will add my speech in for you guys to look over. I walked around our local lake inviting as many people as i could to come over and hear me talk. I could see a lot of people stood very far away/ So i turned my microphone up and talked as loud as i could. Yes it was a hard thing to do but it needed to be done. Mental health effects us all. especially when they can get into our minds so damn easily now.

My speech is below........ I winged it a little but this is basically it guys.

Hi and welcome to the second “SKY NOTES” event.
My name is Benny Coghlan. “SKY NOTES” came to me as an idea after the passing of my beautiful brother Adric Coghlan. While I do not have a lot of experience up here in front of a crowd I felt it needed to be done.
The balloons and notes were a yearly ritual my daughters and I did to send letters off to Santa. So we could ask him for various expensive gifts. Did I mention expensive.
My brother suffered a tragic event that led him on a downward path. Help was offered but only after much damage was done. The damage broiled within him, he kept it inside for so long without telling us, his family. The end result became homelessness, poor health and a loneliness I wish for none of you here or anywhere to suffer. It has affected me greatly
So why did I drag you here?........ For your support and to help you support others.
All things I express here are my view points. We can look at ourselves and each other to discover other ways to combat the issues faced. There are also various people to contact such as Helpline.

What is this all about?

We are here to release wrong doings we may have done in the past. We are here to say goodbye to loved one’s lost. We are here to communicate by “sky notes” with those loved ones. Most of all we are here to remember them and keep them in our hearts as well as others that are suffering at this very moment from mental disorders and anguish.

I want to tell you not to be afraid to express yourself through whatever means you can. We are all unique we are still connected in many ways.
We constantly hearing stories of people overcoming their fears and being told that no matter who you are, you can do anything. How do they do that? What guidance is needed? What is the first step?

I would love to be able to specifically talk about everyone here that has been affected by the harsh realities of life. But we can talk about you or someone you know by coming together in groups or meeting up a one on one. We should bring up taboo subjects in our family. Because I am pretty sure, before the digital age, this is what we did.

We have to talk about the hard things, not to just hope that it blows over. These hard things are established in our lives. Especially when we are young and in our teens. We teach our children the hard things in order for them to better prepare when they eventually experience them, it can also keep them out of situations because they have the foreknowledge to recognise a toxic environment.

Even if you hear something distressing on the news, as most of the news is distressing. You should be able to talk to someone about it. Discuss how it makes you feel.
I would like to play a song that I think fits well into what this is about then I will talk some more. We will write on our balloons then let them go.

Song “sivlerchair shade”

I wanted to get a band for you guys and gals. Until I can get some more funds for this. You will have to put up with imagining them up here, singing just for you 
Next year I would like to go out of my comfort zone and come up here and sing a song I wrote when I was in my teens. I am no musician at all but did I not mention earlier that we need to express ourselves more.
I also invite anyone for future events to come and express themselves through poem, art or a song and dance, even a magic act. Our local community is sure to hold some great talent right?

I have had many events myself that have taken me into depression and I tried different ways to combat it. I have also had a gambling addiction and have tried to take my own life. There are many things I wish to take back but they are with me now and they make me who I am. Lesson learnt.

We are very resilient beings and we can take a lot of damage mentally, yet we can still come out with a thirst for life. Your character, your persona is most important right here right now. No matter who you are, there is someone or something that relies on you. Which could be Religion, pets, family, friends, and let’s chuck in game of thrones for good measure 

Once again what are we here for?

We need to find our emotions and talk about what we are feeling. Look into our unchangeable past and look toward our bright futures. We need to help people, especially ones closest to you. We do this without being dragged into the same abyss. Find your limits and be happy that you helped as much and all that you could.

We are here to tell a story and if you wish to share any notes please take a photo of them add them to the “sky notes” Facebook page. Also can you please not put your full name, number or address on these notes. This is to protect you and to give you the ability to write what you need to anonymously. 

Ongoing awareness of mental issues, depression, abuse and taboo subjects such as rape and abuse will impact greatly not only in our community but the world. We have to start within our community with our children and let it spread like wildfire. A wildfire that expresses our knowing and our commitment to keeping the mind healthy.
There is so much more I could say. So much more we could all hear. It is going to take more than me to say it.

Let’s grab a balloon, write our “Sky Note” and send them on their journey.

Remember we all need to enjoy life. It is a beautiful thing.

Thank you.

:inlove:

the problem with people is being disconnected.

“Talking about it openly and not playing it down, you’ve got to be able to say how it is.”
this is done easily when people are connected. May the balloon communication led to a more personal connection.
perhaps include all subjects that bothers the individual not only mental issues. Any problem can led to mental issues.
People who have more friends and more personal relations tend to be healthier emotionally and mentally because there is always someone to talk openly about any subject.

not having someone to talk to or hug can lead to mental problems. simply expressing ourselves through music arts or anything can do wonders. we need to express ourselves. thanks for the initiative.

Beautiful Benycog...thank you! And I am so sorry for your loss. If you would like to share a bit more about your brother, please do. Maybe he can somehow perceive it from the beyond.

What was his favorite color, food, music, art form? What image do you hold in your mind's eye that crystallizes his journey?
When was he happiest? What touched him?

A big hug to you

Good on ya brother. Sometimes this experience weighs heavy and almost consumes us to the point where many of us contemplate
opting out and leaving. I too have thought deeply about why Im here and whether Id be happier on another plane.
Being around like minded people is a must, even though I struggle to connect with people locally. So often we almost feel
lonely on our path of learning and experiencing even though we are not alone and even tougher is the fact that so many around
us do not relate or connect or are just plain ignorant, which makes us giving, sensitive souls feel separated almost.
I wake every day in the hope that the world I imagine starts to take shape and my loneliness dissipates.

Thank you for the replies :)

It is important to me to try help any people that i can with without it affecting me or my family of course. Because the the part you have to juggle the most is your own mind and how far you can take it too.

My brother was groomed by his teacher when he was in his teens. This is what lead him on his path.

Awesome words etheric underground :) they are so true. Our communities may get bigger but the so do the problems and the disconnections between us.

Thanx Autumn. While this started for my brother i Want to use it to help as many as i can :). I think his best times in life were bareback riding on a horse out in the mountains. I would rather a motorbike than a horse but he could control them easily just by their manes..

Hey bubu, We have to talk about it openly. But we cannot just jump straight out there like i have. Openly with family and our children.

There are too many stories that come up after people have gone through such awful tragedies in their lifes and the damage is beyond repair because a family member did not notice their change in behaviour or they felt they had no avenue to tell anyone about it. It needs to stop humanity has to come into adulthood i think :)

You are doing a great thing for your brother and for the world. Mental illness, sadness, loneliness can be changed, or the despair lessened, if we know what is going on. It is up to those afflicted, to reach out as well, to get over the shame.

I started a thread about loneliness a few years ago. I admitted that I felt like I was dying from loneliness and that I thought I was one of a growing cohort on planet earth, sinking slowly into the ooze of social oblivion. The responses to that thread were so kind and caring. They helped me.

Particularly nowadays, nobody should feel stigmatized for becoming unhinged. It is a crazy world! And loneliness IS epidemic. Life in the 21st century is the problem, not necessarily the person who is isolated -- for whatever reason.

We should all try to prevent mental illness and despair by doing everything in our power to lift those vulnerable up BEFORE it kicks in. People need to love and to be loved in return. It is that simple, most of the time.

Lifting people up, like balloons!

Hold that image of your brother riding horseback, in your mind, and may you meet him on your own steed, galloping through the Bardo one day!

Hi Benny,
I am sorry for your loss Benny and offer my deepest condolences. I understand because I lost my dad to cancer over 10 years ago and it took me a very long time to come to grips with his passing.

You have done a fantastic job by taking the initiative and being brave enough to speak out about mental illness and raising awareness, thank you for doing so.

It is fantastic that you also want to help people on a personal level but if you are approached by people seeking help and it becomes overwhelming, please refer them onto your local Mental Health Team.
From my experience the government body does a brillant job, (versus the private sector), and they would have staff available for counselling and also a after hours crisis line to help a person talk threw situation and it could be that black dog we know as depression or any other matter that is troubling you.

Kind Regards Boris
