View Full Version : Ongoing Destruction of the Two-Party System in the US

You can pick up a history textbook and read about the rise and fall of political parties in the US: Federalists, Whigs, Know-Nothings, Anti-Masons, etc.

The Republicans and Democrats have had their own rises and falls, but seem to always find a way to reincarnate with the same name, in a different form.

Well ladies and gentleman, welcome to history in the making, as another incarnation of the Democratic party is slowly dismantled, piece-by-piece.

Trump Wins The Unions: Teamsters Praise TPP Withdrawal, Labor Chiefs Describe "Incredible" Meeting With Trump

Shortly after Donald Trump made good on one of his core campaign promises on Monday morning by signing an executive order formally withdrawing the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade deal, Trump told labor union leaders that he would renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement "at the appropriate time."

The remarks came at the start of a meeting at the White House with leaders of construction, carpenters, plumbers and sheet metal unions, during which Trump pledged to stop trade deals that harmed American workers.

According to the White House, participants included North America's Building Trades Unions President Sean McGarvey, Laborers' International Union of North America President Terry O'Sullivan, SMART sheet metal workers' union President Joseph Sellers, United Brotherhood of Carpenters President Doug McCarron and Mark McManus, president of the United Association that represents plumbers, pipefitters, welders and others. The union meeting also included several local union officials and follows a gathering of 12 chief executives of large companies at the White House to discuss revitalizing the U.S. manufacturing economy.

[...]

But even more notable, was the dramatic pivot by the US labor unions, historically stalwart democrat supporters, who have suddenly emerged as big supporters of Trump policies, and perhaps no one more so than AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka who said TPP withdrawal is "a good first step toward building trade policies that benefit workers."

As a reminder, nearly all major unions endorsed Trump's rival, Hillary Clinton, during the presidential election campaign: they now appear to be shifting their allegiance.

In other words that infamous "blue wall" of Minnesota, Michigan and Pennsylvania, that Trump could never breach (supposedly) is now about to be shattered permanently, and rebuilt into a big, beautiful Trump wall.

Bringing back industries such as automobile manufacturers to these states will cement that support from a grass-roots level as people go back to work making American-built cars and trucks, and hopefully bringing an end to the terrible stagnation of cities like Detroit and Cleveland.

President Donald Trump to meet with Detroit Three automakers

WASHINGTON — Moving quickly on a promise to spark job creation in the manufacturing sector, President Donald Trump will meet with the CEOs of the Detroit Three automakers on Tuesday morning at the White House.

For Democrats to lose their urban and suburban support base in states like Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Pennsylvania will be 100% fatal, not only to their chances of winning the 2020 presidential election, but to their national political viability in general.

As liberal as New York and California are, they can't support the Democratic party on a national level by themselves, and even states like Colorado are flirting with flipping Republican in this new era of politics.

To put this all in perspective, remember the words of one of Trump's closest and most trusted advisors, Steve Bannon:

"If we deliver" — by "we" he means the Trump White House — "we'll get 60 percent of the white vote, and 40 percent of the black and Hispanic vote and we'll govern for 50 years. That's what the Democrats missed. They were talking to these people with companies with a $9 billion market cap employing nine people. It's not reality. They lost sight of what the world is about."

Fifty years? That takes us all the way to 2067. Surely legitimate political opposition will have regained its senses by then?

Does anyone really believe that Trump or anyone for that matter can bring industry back to Michigan or elsewhere in the US? I will happily eat crow if this some how magically happens.

What worries me is the lack of discussion about automation. All this blaming bad 'deals' with other countries has me uncomfortable as I have read some companies have come back to the U.S. but they come back and hire some form of robots or partial robotics. What then?
Maybe he has discussed this and I didn't catch it?
But talking about bringing jobs back without talking about companies temptation for the more cost-effective automation/robotics is only half a discussion.

Yes, I absolutely believe it, and economics is not "magic," despite what career politicians would love you to believe.

Everything is just super complicated when all you do for a living is drag your feet and lie on behalf of corporate corruption. That's what career politicians do, and that's what Americans have (unfortunately) become used to.

Toyota Pledges U.S. Jobs as Trump Meets With Detroit's Auto CEOs

By Matthew Rocco Published January 24, 2017 Auto FOXBusiness

President Donald Trump hosted a meeting with the leaders of Detroit’s Big Three automakers Tuesday, keeping the focus on the car industry amid a push to create American jobs.

General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra, Ford (F) CEO Mark Fields and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCAU) CEO Sergio Marchionne joined Trump at the White House, where regulatory reform, corporate taxes and trade were topics of discussion.

Also on Tuesday, Toyota made a separate announcement that its factory in Princeton, Ind., will add 400 jobs under a $600 million investment. The money will be used to modernize the facility and meet growing demand for the Highlander SUV, according to Toyota. The project will begin in the fall of 2019.

“We have a very big push going to have auto plants and many other plants…built in the United States,” Trump said, adding that reducing taxes and unnecessary regulations are priorities.

Trump, who also met with CEOs of manufacturing heavyweights on Monday, has pressured automakers to invest in U.S. factories. General Motors, Ford and Toyota (TM) have faced Trump’s ire for expanding production in Mexico. Automakers have sought to smooth relations with the new president, headlined by Ford’s decision to cancel the construction of a Mexican factory.

Mark Fields, the CEO of Ford, said the industry is encouraged by Trump’s economic proposals.

“We just had a great conversation with the president, and he is very focused on policies that will grow investment and jobs here in America and American industry and, of course, the automotive industry,” Fields said as he left the White House. “I think as an industry, we’re excited about working together with the president and his administration on tax policies, on regulation and on trade to really create a renaissance in American manufacturing.”

Barra echoed those sentiments.

“There’s a huge opportunity working together as an industry with government…to improve the environment, improve safety and improve jobs creation and the competitiveness of manufacturing,” Barra added.

In a statement released after Tuesday’s meeting, Marchionne said Fiat Chrysler shares President Trump’s desire to build a strong manufacturing base in the U.S.

“I appreciate the President's focus on making the U.S. a great place to do business,” he said.

Fields also applauded Trump’s move on Monday to officially withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade deal that Trump often criticized on the campaign trail. The deal didn’t meaningfully deal with currency manipulation, which Fields called “the mother of all trade barriers.”

And sticking with the theme of completely wrecking the Democratic party's viability nationally, we have this:

Sanders, joined by Rust Belt Democrats, praises Trump for nixing TPP

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt), who campaigned hard against the Trans-Pacific Partnership in last year’s Democratic presidential primaries, praised President Trump for an executive order to officially pull the United States out of the deal.

“I am glad the Trans-Pacific Partnership is dead and gone,” Sanders said. “For the last 30 years, we have had a series of trade deals — including the North American Free Trade Agreement, permanent normal trade relations with China and others — which have cost us millions of decent-paying jobs and caused a ‘race to the bottom’ which has lowered wages for American workers. Now is the time to develop a new trade policy that helps working families, not just multinational corporations. If President Trump is serious about a new policy to help American workers, then I would be delighted to work with him.”

Bernie may be a socialist but at least he has some principles.

And also contributing to the destruction of the Democratic party is their ongoing alienation of all white people in the United States:

DNC Chair Candidate: My Job to ‘Shut Other White People Down’

Race to lead Democratic Party increasingly mired in identity politics, racial divisiveness

The race to lead the Democratic National Committee continues to get nasty — and increasingly racially charged.

In an astonishing speech Monday night, DNC chair candidate Sally Boynton Brown repeatedly made racist remarks about white people.

“My job is to listen and be a voice and shut other white people down when they want to interrupt,” Brown, the executive director of the Idaho Democratic Party, said. “My job is to shut other white people down when they want to say, ‘Oh, no, I’m not prejudiced.'”

Brown, like most of her fellow white leftist peers, seems locked in a never-ending quest to convince themselves and others that all white people are inherently racist, constantly criticizing white privilege and fighting against nationwide “systemic racism.”

Brown even claimed the Democratic Party itself was filled with racists and bigots that needed purging.

"White leaders in our party have failed. We have to accept that there is prejudice that exists within our own party," Brown asserted.

"I'm a white woman, I don't get it," Brown said in yet another display of her anti-white bona fides. "My job is to make sure that [white people] get that they have privilege," she continued.

Brown's shocking speech truly reveals the extent to which the upper echelons of the Democratic Party are removed from the lives of ordinary Americans. For a moment, Brown's remarks seemed to indicate such a lack of self-awareness one couldn't help but question if she was engaged in an epic exercise in trolling.

"This moment in our country, the Democratic Party has the opportunity to do something different," Brown said. "Around the issue of race we are so far out of alignment."

The modern Democratic Party's intense focus on generating racial division was undoubtedly part of the reason Trump won.

They say it best: this kind of rhetoric "was undoubtedly part of the reason Trump won." And they're still at it.

Bottom line is, this is great news for Trump.

Then you put people to work doing something else.

The industrial revolution put lots of seamstresses out of work sewing and knitting clothes. Now we have sewing machines that allow 1 person to do the work of what formerly required a massive amount of manpower (or womanpower, as the case was). Those women found better things to occupy their time, including other forms of labor.

Wouldn't you say that the standard of living is generally better or worse now than it was before the industrial revolution of the mid 1800s? Robotics is the next logical step. There will be displacement of jobs but we can always find something productive to do with our time.
