I can not rationally explain why but drones make me go "bat *@%! crazy".

I realize there are many reasons to be concerned about this technology but I get super irrational when I see one to the point that my family is embarrassed. I liken it to the behavior of the apes at the monolith in Kubrick's 2001. I can't be still, yell and scream and throw anything around me no matter how ridiculous in its direction. I started throwing sticks at one last fall even though the sticks could not in anyway reach or even if they did damage the drone. (I was raking leaves at the time and couldn't find anything heavier to throw.)

Any body else really triggered by drones?

The one I saw last fall was similar to the Ethan or the Heron in the attached picture. :confused:

Haven't posted in a looong time, but just had to make a comment.

Ha Ha, triggered? How about attacked? Yes, my wife and I were taking a sunset walk at the ocean near Bodega Bay, Ca. We often do the 20 minute drive to walk the Bodega Head loop from one parking lot around to the other lot, then back again to our car. As we neared a stopping place where we often sit to watch the last rays of the setting sun on a low concrete monument in the shape of a chevron which makes a fine seat, we noticed a guy flying a fancy 6 propeller drone right near us. It was not just the noise and tech toy distraction that I didn't like, but a somewhat more subtle annoyance....the guy himself seemed like a young self-important intelligently semi-autistic type of which I find to be increasingly common.

My wife was just behind me and I told her, "lets get out of here, I can see where this is going to go." I stool up to leave and saw the guy walking toward us while he stared at the video screen thing he was holding with both hands. I did not know then, because she was still out of my sight line, that he just flew the thing at Martha's head to where she had to duck and run a few steps to get away. At this point I am trying to walk away, but the drone then raced at my head and I had to backhand it away or it would have hit me in the face. The backhand knocked it away some 7 or 8 feet and it had to stabilize for a few seconds before shooting back at my face again! I had no idea how dangerous the propellers could be, but stepped into the assault swinging hard with a roundhouse left hook and WHACK!, I knocked it to the ground onto its back and there it lay dead upside down in the beautiful spring grass. My hand was not cut or otherwise injured, to my surprise. There were only two options; cut and run or step in and smack it hard. Really no decision was necessary, just instinctual response.

I then found myself yelling something like "What are you doing you f--king idiot, flying that thing into my face!!!! I was really pissed and continued yelling about taking responsibility for his action and other "unkind and un pc" type venting. He was angry but only managed to whine "I hope you haven't broken it, that cost me $3,000." Like I'd care, like I'm supposed to be sympathetic, like I'm impressed at his expenditure? LOL all night long! :ROFL: What an idiot. I only knew after we left that he had first assaulted Martha or I probably would have stomped it to pieces and kicked it over the cliff into the Pacific.

We decided to end our, by that time, spoiled walk and get out of there before who knows what else could occur. Interesting times eh?

A question for the Avalon crowd.....What would you do? What would Jesus do?.....I don't think he had to deal with this crap.

That would be terribly scary for me. If everyone in the town was informed well ahead of time by flyer, newpaper, local media, etc when, where, and what kind of practices were going to occur then that would make it less alarming. Acknowledgment of people's concerns well ahead of time is courteous and respectful, shows the kind of empathy that keeps trust intact. I wonder why drills of that sort were done in such a public area? Is that normal for your town?

Whoa! That was a scare for sure! Personal drone craft are going to need to require a license with a required test, and signed documents with rules and oaths that the licensee will not operate their craft so close to people, animals, other people's personal property, and over people's property. Those are very dangerous propellers on some; plus the weight of the craft at a certain velocity crashing into someone can cause severe injuries. In addition, you don't want ignorance of the law being an excuse that some kid uses for the type of incident you and your wife went through: a repeated act of injurious aggression using a weapon. Yes, these psychopath-autistic sorts with black-framed glasses are on the rise, and appear to be from the same family.

Yes, there is something about the drones which repel me in a unique way too. Since you posed the question, I was trying to figure out just what the problem is and have a few ideas: When a person is at home, we consider it our own personal space. We invite someone over if we choose to. We turn on the type of music we choose to, or we may want it purely quiet. Everyone is supposed to know and respect those boundaries. Additionally, when a person goes into their backyard or into the wilderness, they are entering nature, their own private slice of paradise and tranquility. When we choose to be out in nature we typically choose to leave all technology behind. We desire the blissful opening of the relaxation and spirituality which is uniquely attained by being in nature. Thus, the trespassing of a drone is a deep breech of our spiritual and mental boundaries, as well as physical boundaries.

I don't think any Police or Sheriff's department should have these drones, especially if they have tactical weapons. These types of drones should be limited to very special operations such as SWAT situations. If these drones became prevalent in a community, there are plenty of prankster-types, murderous-types, and revenge-types who would either steal them from the Police to use one the Police or citizens, as well would mock up their own drones and put Police decals on the sides of the drone so that Police would be blamed for crimes, trespasses, and even shootings if the drones are armed. The Police are under enough distress already due to various shootings, some necessary, others in error resulting in innocent lives lost. There are people who live in the United States who are ISIS sympathizers and others who are Anarchists who hope that there is a civil war here in the United States. I don't want armed drones accessible here in the United States. Just a SWAT situation.
