Just a thought about melting ice this morning. With more water increasing pressure on the mantle of the earth perhaps volcanic activity would increase thus creating colder conditions that would redistribute the weight in ice forms to points of more support or balance and the process starts over...just a thought....

I think the melting of the polar caps affects climate change in two main ways.
Firstly the cold fresh water that results from the melting (frozen ice does not carry much salt) can disrupt ocean currents because of its lower salinity and temperature than the pre-existing salt water. A change in ocean currents can dramatically change local climates, for instance Europe could be dramatically cooled by a reduction or redirection of the Gulf Stream current.

Secondly, the warming Arctic permafrost could release large amounts of methane, a greenhouse gas, which could accellerate warming trends.

As a counterbalance to this warming, look at the solar cycles. Apparently the sun may be entering a cooling down cycle, which i have heard of from more than one independent source, which will possibly start a mini ice age in the next fifteen years.

The Earth has been going through cycles of warming and cooling periods since the ice ages began. The glacial maximum cooling periods seem to correspond to a convergence of varying wobbles in Earth's orbit and spin,

perhaps related to the progression of the equinoxes.
