I love George Carlin.....Miss him so very much... He wasn't just absolutely hilarious, but if you really listened to what he was saying.....he made a lot of sense.

My favorite vid on YouTube. The hard part is finding it because it keeps somehow disappearing. At 3:24 he gave us truth about was going on...

Don't you miss him?

It makes me feel good to know how many of you love him. Please share with us.

George Carlin quotes :

Carlin spoke the truth for nearly 50 years... and people are still listening to his wisdom...

Great George Carlin clips! everything he says is still true.

My favorite quote (he says it too in the second clip "The Owners of the Country"):

"The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it."

I found this one from a list of his one-liners:

"When you're born you get a ticket to the freak show. When you are born in America, you get a front row seat." ~~ George Carlin

I like this one too:

"Just when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it."

Classic:

"Ever notice that anyone going slower than you is an idiot, but anyone going faster is a maniac?"

A couple of years ago I read his daughter's memoir about her relationship with him, not a bad read. "A Carlin Home Companion: Growing Up with George" by Kelly Carlin 2015

We could use another George Carlin on stage again, such a genius fierce fearless truth-teller served with astute humor. Thanks George Carlin.

Carlin began working in the late 1950s as a wisecracking radio disc jockey and low-key stand-up comedian known for such whimsical routines as “Wonderful WINO” and the “Hippy Dippy Weatherman.” Beginning in the 1970s, however, he transformed himself into a provocative and incisive antiestablishment comic icon. Carlin was most closely identified with the monologue “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television,” in which he satirically analyzed the use and misuse of seven of the raunchiest obscenities in the English language.

Carlin was arrested in 1972 for performing the monologue onstage, but a judge dismissed the case.

In 1973 New York City radio station WBAI-FM triggered a lawsuit by the FCC after it aired a recorded version of the routine called “Filthy Words.” The landmark “Carlin case” was finally settled in 1978 by the U.S. Supreme Court: in a 5–4 ruling, it gave the FCC the ability to censor offensive content in radio and TV broadcasts. When George Carlin recorded an expletive-laden 12-minute monologue before a live audience in a California theatre, he probably didn’t expect it to become the basis of a key Supreme Court decision. But in 1973, the monologue was aired as part of a radio broadcast, and it was heard by a man who complained to the FCC when his young son heard the curses. This started a series of events that led to the FCC v. Pacifica Foundation decision. Not only has Pacifica become the cornerstone case for the regulation of indecent speech and the seminal Supreme Court case that authorized the FCC to restrict content, but it is also considered by some as one of the worst decisions on First Amendment rights.

George Carlin died on June 22, 2008. He wrote about the case in his autobiography, Last Words.

FCC vs Pacifica has become a standard case to teach in communications classes and many law schools. I take perverse pride in that. I’m actually a footnote to the judicial history of America.

Of course, critics of the decision would also probably agree with another of his famous quotes:

''Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. ''

That kind of humour that I luv about him :

George Carlin on Students and Parents, Phone Calls,Bluetooth.... Hope you enjoy !

He's one of my heroes. :) I just love to watch him doing standup especially those later ones where he is, as he describes it, an old f*ck. I have all of his specials and I watch those from time to time and they still make me laugh.

George Carlin was seriously interested in UFOs, although you might not have known this from his public persona.

MYSTERY WIRE — Iconic comedian George Carlin was an avid reader whose often-scathing stand-up monologues skewered human frailties and social trends. One topic he sometimes mentioned onstage is alien life.

Carlin passed away in 2008 from heart failure. It happened just one week after performing another show in Las Vegas. Over the course of 20 years, Las Vegas was a town where Carlin lived part time and often performed.

During his time in Las Vegas, Carlin and Mystery Wire’s George Knapp talked several times, often delving into the topic of UFOs and aliens among other things such as politics and political correctness.

George Carlin used extraterrestrials a few times in his stand-up routines, sort of a set-up line to comment on the sad state of humanity, but he never took any public positions about UFOs or aliens.

Behind the scenes though, he had an abiding interest in the topics. The comedian and Knapp exchanged tapes, books, and information about UFOs.

“I met George Carlin in the mid 1980s. He came into KLAS and we interviewed him live in our studio for an evening newscast,” Knapp told Mystery Wire. “I chatted with him after the interview and then we stayed in touch. I would occasionally go to see him when he was in Las Vegas to perform (which was often.) In 1990, I started sending him tapes of the UFO stories and the multi-part series I was producing. In return, he would generously send me stacks of VHS tapes of his comedy specials and performances. Over the years, I also sent him a few books – UFO books and also books about strange and archaic words, which he liked. He would send autographed copies of books he had written. When he came to town, I’d go to see him and chat in his dressing room about UFO related stories. He was deeply interested and it was clear he read a lot about the mystery, though he didn’t really want to be known publicly as a UFO guy, so I kept that to myself.”

Strange coincidence you posted this because it was Monday night I listened to Carlin's audiobook When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops and there it was, he speaking of UFO's. Frankly I had forgotten that he was interested in the subject.

Did not know George was alsa on MADTv, which I've been watching lately. These sketches were all really funny. I really do miss the 90's when they could say anything they ever wanted on television, and it was just normal because that's what you should be able to do. Even on SNL back then was pretty wild with Norm Macdonald (one of my other favorite comics). MADTv really was something else back then and they had great cast as well.

Well he very well may, but like all good comedians, Carlin didn’t take sides or follow the herd from any angle of a given subject.

My bet is that he’d be taking hilarious jabs at the extremes of both sides from his front row seat to the freak show, as he so aptly coined it. He’d not only have the pro and anti vaxxers laughing at the other, but at themselves as well.

Avalon, Oh Avalon. This is finding another thread worth the read, the listen and the laughter. I am happily surprised when I come across another thread I missed, one like this.

Yes, Carlin's bit about swimming in the raw sewage of the Hudson River to strengthen the immune system was all about natural choice. No doubt he'd rail about all of the hypocrisy and loss of common sense, the lack of listening and the absence of courage.....

As well as providing a healthy dose of humor about dealing with all of it.

From my first in person exposure to his comedy, at the U.C.L.A. student union in the fall of '71, standing room only....The 7 Words You Can't Say on T.V... to the decades of increasingly biting and insightful humor exposing the universe of the absurd and the cruelty of humans...
I find a great spiritual kinship with the man.

Yep, MadTV had a great bunch of comedians and writers, Will Sasso doing the violent egomanic Seagal, Bobby Lee as the inept blind master always killing the victim, Phil Lamar, the great voice over actor, as the hyper UPS deliveryman and Michael McDonald, so super-caffeinated to the point his eyes bulged out of his head....Nicole Sullivan and anything she did, the great impressionist Frank Caliendo, Alex Bornstein.....

I'll be listening for all of the missing comedians who haven't yet taken up the gauntlet to make the living memes that a real comedian makes, so ripe for the picking these days....

Now that I think about it, recently I have been thanking myself over and over again for remembering all of the cruelty I experienced as a very young experiment at another nearby university, and in this remembrance rejecting the academic scholarship that got me into college a year early....while I accepted the only path in a mind F'ing scholastic environment that a sane survivor could choose, which is the path of an artist.

The path where I could express my angst and insights colorfully, without the inane commentary of useless college professors. This is the path of the independent artist, the sculptor getting to work with the female form.....endlessly appreciative of the interaction.

Proud to have left two years early at the encouragement of the head of the sculpture department, Oliver Andrews, giving me the go ahead to be the artist I was born to be, to get out there and live a real life beyond the insanity and the illusion that the university was and still is.

Tho it isn't funny at all, I saw the makings of at least more than a dozen ted kaczynski types dealing with the lies and hypocrisy, the moral manipulation of science inherent in major university life. Funny how so many of them ended up being the Mengele's in their chosen fields, manipulating science for profit, all to the detriment of humanity.

I thanked myself back then also for choosing a 'liberal arts' major away from that stifling, bureaucratic romper room, stinking of it's greed and self-importance... It all seemed like an ass sniffing apprenticeship more than anything else. No wonder alcohol, drugs and excessive, impersonal sex was the counter point to the inhumanity that higher (paid) education breeds, even as those things were, by choice, not on my plate, much.
