Apparently people were jumping out of windows and eye witnesses say they saw children at windows trapped. The building had just had a refurbishment and a gas main fitted. I hope not too many people are hurt  alot of people are still unaccounted for.

I am hearing of a growing number of London housing estates that are losing their cheaper communal gas powered central heating for way more expensive individual heating systems resulting in more profits for the gas companies & more tax for the government.

I cannot wait for the British people to realise that we are being sold down the river day by day!!!
I know it's just a reflection of the stagnation of our species but today incident is a glaring example for those whom have eyes to see

Another thing that is not sitting well with me this morning is that if one re-arranges and does a little subtraction to todays date you'll get a six, six, six.

A quick summary from LBC (http://www.lbc.co.uk/news/london/west/kensington-chelsea/residents-warned-grenfell-tower-was-a-fire-risk/):

Residents Warned Last Year Grenfell Tower Was A Fire Risk
14 June 2017, 04:58
Residents at the 24-storey tower block which went up in flames warned last year that their building was a fire risk.
The Grenfell Action Group wrote of their concern about the health and safety problems with their block of flats during improvement works last year.
In January 2016, they wrote: "It has been very clear for some time to the residents of Grenfell Tower that those responsible for ensuring the smooth running of Lancaster West Estate are failing in their duty of care and wilfully allowing our residential amenity to decline in unacceptable ways.
"Nowhere is this better demonstrated than in our landlords failure to deal with a serious health and safety issue that recently developed at the entrance/exit to Grenfell Tower.
"This matter is of particular concern as there is only one entry and exit to Grenfell Tower during the Improvement Works and the potential for a fire to break out in the communal area on the walkway does not bear thinking about as residents would be trapped in the building with no way out!"

That particular issue was sorted out 18 months ago, but the action group warned: "Not for the first time we must ask how safe is Lancaster West, can staff be trusted to ensure it is safe, and what hidden fire risks might be lurking in Grenfell Tower or elsewhere on the estate?"
In November 2016, they wrote: "It is a truly terrifying thought but the Grenfell Action Group firmly believe that only a catastrophic event will expose the ineptitude and incompetence of our landlord, the KCTMO (Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation), and bring an end to the dangerous living conditions and neglect of health and safety legislation that they inflict upon their tenants and leaseholders.
"The Grenfell Action Group believe that the KCTMO narrowly averted a major fire disaster at Grenfell Tower in 2013 when residents experienced a period of terrifying power surges that were subsequently found to have been caused by faulty wiring."
The entire building caught fire in the early hours of this morning. 200 firefighters are dealing with the blaze.
Whether anyone is stuck inside at the moment is unclear, although eyewitnesses told LBC they saw people waving and shouting from the top of the building.

KCTMO – Playing with fire!
Posted on November 20, 2016 by grenfellactiongroup

It is a truly terrifying thought but the Grenfell Action Group firmly believe that only a catastrophic event will expose the ineptitude and incompetence of our landlord, the KCTMO, and bring an end to the dangerous living conditions and neglect of health and safety legislation that they inflict upon their tenants and leaseholders. We believe that the KCTMO are an evil, unprincipled, mini-mafia who have no business to be charged with the responsibility of looking after the every day management of large scale social housing estates and that their sordid collusion with the RBKC Council is a recipe for a future major disaster.
Unfortunately, the Grenfell Action Group have reached the conclusion that only an incident that results in serious loss of life of KCTMO residents will allow the external scrutiny to occur that will shine a light on the practices that characterise the malign governance of this non-functioning organisation. We believe that the KCTMO have ensured their ongoing survival by the use of proxy votes at their Annual General Meeting that see them returned with a mandate of 98% in favour of the continuation of their inept and highly dangerous management of our homes. It is no coincidence that the 98% is the same figure that is returned by the infamous Kim Jong-un of North Korea who claims mass popularity while reputedly enslaving the general population and starving the majority of his people to death.

It is our conviction that a serious fire in a tower block or similar high density residential property is the most likely reason that those who wield power at the KCTMO will be found out and brought to justice! The Grenfell Action Group believe that the KCTMO narrowly averted a major fire disaster at Grenfell Tower in 2013 when residents experienced a period of terrifying power surges that were subsequently found to have been caused by faulty wiring. We believe that our attempts to highlight the seriousness of this event were covered up by the KCTMO with the help of the RBKC Scrutiny Committee who refused to investigate the legitimate concerns of tenants and leaseholders.
We have blogged many times on the subject of fire safety at Grenfell Tower and we believe that these investigations will become part of damning evidence of the poor safety record of the KCTMO should a fire affect any other of their properties and cause the loss of life that we are predicting:

https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/fire-safety-scandal-at-lancaster-west/

https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/more-on-fire-safety/

https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/2013/02/21/another-fire-safety-scandal/

https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/2016/01/24/grenfell-tower-still-a-fire-risk/

In October 2015 a fire ripped through another KCTMO property, the 14 storey Adair Tower in North Kensington, causing mass panic and resulting in a number of residents taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. It is reported that had it not been for the swift actions of the London Fire Brigade the consequences of this fire and potential loss of life could have been much worse.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/11967592/50-rescued-from-burning-flats-in-Kensington.html

In the aftermath of the Adair Tower fire the London Fire Brigade found that the KCTMO had not been looking after the safety of residents properly and issued an Enforcement Order compelling them to improve the fire safety in the escape staircases and to provide self closing devices to all the tower block’s front doors. A further audit by the London Fire Brigade of the neighbouring Hazelwood Tower (located alongside Adair Tower) found similar breaches of health and safety legislation and an Enforcement Order was also issued for this property forcing the TMO to address the serious concerns of the Fire Brigade’s inspectors. What is shocking is that a decade ago a fatality occurred due to a fire at Hazelwood Tower and the Fire Investigation Team ordered that the grills on the fire escape staircase be covered over. This never happened and it is believed that the uncovered grills at Adair House (Hazelwood Tower’s twin block) acted like a chimney and were responsible for the accelerated spread of the fire and smoke damage.

In the last twenty years and despite the terrifying power surge incident in 2013 and recent fire at Adair Tower, the residents of Grenfell Tower have received no proper fire safety instructions from the KCTMO. Residents were informed by a temporary notice stuck in the lift and one announcement in a recent regeneration newsletter that they should remain in their flats in the event of fire. There are not and never have been any instructions posted in the Grenfell Tower noticeboard or on individual floor as to how residents should act in event of a fire. Anyone who witnessed the recent tower block fire at Shepherds Court, in nearby Shepherd’s Bush, will know that the advice to remain in our properties would have led to certain fatalities and we are calling on our landlord to re-consider the advice that they have so badly circulated.

The Grenfell Action Group predict that it won’t be long before the words of this blog come back to haunt the KCTMO management and we will do everything in our power to ensure that those in authority know how long and how appallingly our landlord has ignored their responsibility to ensure the heath and safety of their tenants and leaseholders. They can’t say that they haven’t been warned!

The fire spread really fast due to highly flammable plastic cladding newly fitted to the exterior....

One of the residents claims it started in a neighbours flat when his fridge "exploded" .... could that be due to an electrical surge as mention in the blog quote above ???

There have clearly been serious oversights & shortcuts with this tower block, there are some big questions to be answered !

So its a corporate mini-mob hit? Is this the future to shake down city contracts, by putting instable materials or workers in charge of safety. These backyard mechanics in mob are usually family given and no skill, just game. AI hope all those souls lost haunt them to the end of their days. I looked at the building this morning from a news copter, and it looked like someone's arms were banging on the glass and they burned in place leaving a charred set of arms still there. Absolutely horrible and if it's an arsonist, may God deal with him or her accordingly.

They used plastic on a high rise with only two exits and what happened to outside sprinklers if the plastic catches fire. That stuff drips hot like molten melting metal only liquified and sticks to the skin taking a long time to cool. I've worked with hot plastic in crafting at home. Not good. My daughter still has the scars at 39 trying to do something behind my back in my arts and craft room. 3rd degree, she pulled the plastic after running cold water over it, and it pulled a chunk of flesh out behind it. Oh my God. The realtors need to be held accountable. Let the relatives of those in the building GET ANSWERS ABOUT "just 2 exits and multiple warnings over the years.

My god.. This is just horrible. Makes me cringe to even think about being trapped inside of that.

Any local news on the current status of this disaster?

Our national news outlets have reported that there are at least 6 casualties, but this was 4-5 hours ago so this number might have increased by now. They also said that the residents have complained about possible fire hazards in the past and even formed an action committee that accused KCTMO of criminal negligence last March. Some residents even said that they were advised to stay inside their apartments in case of a fire.

a fire alarm system compliant to L2 or even L3 spec could've prevented most injuries & deaths. staircase is wide enough to accomodate for all residents evacuating at once. being fire alarm systems engineer i constantly see fire alarms either in fire mode but with disabled sounders of full of faults and undermaintained. most see them as nuisance apart from when its needed the most.

The nature of the scandal is, IMO, as follows:

Note Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea is one of, if not the, richest Borough in the country. Both the local authority & their income AND the residents.

A bit of back-ground.

British policy has since the war been to build these blocks in diverse locales rather than zoning , and thereby creating ghettos, as they do in France. The advantages being hopefully better social and educational opportunities for the occupants, plus the monied classes have access to cleaners and shop keepers. These blocks are well -built, mostly, and dotted all over the place.
The local pressure group flagged all kinds of safety issues , especially fire. There was a chronic lack of investment and good practice regarding this. But, strangely the local authority found £8.6 million for the cladding. Yes, cladding a building where there were well documented concerns about internal fire safety, including exits, alarms & sprinklers (or lack of).
So what was this huge investment about? There has been the suggestion that the cladding, described as insulation, is, in fact, primarily an aesthetic issue. I agree with this analysis. In the posh areas, one of the top subjects around the dinner table is house prices. These towers are seen as an eye sore. There is a programme nationally to improve the way they look, with cladding, painting and other updates. After the investment, they do look much nicer, and could possibly pass off as a swanky new office block!

Director of company which refurbished Grenfell Tower ‘hangs up’ on Piers Morgan

Jen Mills for Metro (http://metro.co.uk/2017/06/14/director-of-company-which-refurbished-grenfell-hangs-up-on-piers-morgan-6709287/).co.uk

A director of the company which refurbished Grenfell Tower appeared to hang up during an interview with Piers Morgan.
Andrew Goldman, responsible for technology and marketing at Rydon, appeared on Good Morning Britain where he was asked about insulation cladding which may have led to the deadly fire spreading so quickly.
At least 12 people have been confirmed dead with the toll expected to rise.
‘We know your company did the refurbishment only last year and added all this exterior cladding,’ Piers Morgan said.
‘Almost all witnesses said they saw the cladding basically firing up – bits of it were igniting before their very eyes.

‘There will be many other people living in buildings with this type of cladding who want to know what the hell has gone on.’
‘Can you tell us what the cladding was made of?’
Responding, Mr Goldman said he did not know exactly what the cladding was made of and said he didn’t want to speculate before investigations could determine the cause of the fire.
In a fraught exchange, Mr Morgan told him: ‘These aren’t very satisfactory answers.’
Susanna Reid then asked him: ‘Do you know if this cladding is used in other of your projects? There has been some speculation it was used on the school near the block.’
But at this point the interview cut off.
People watching jumped to the possibility he hung up, which was acknowledged by Piers Morgan when he said he had given him a ‘hard time’.
Earlier in the interview, Mr Goldman had said: ‘We don’t know that there’s any direct link between the fire and the cladding at this stage. We have to wait for the outcome of the inquiries.’
He said he didn’t want to speculate on anything and clarified ‘the main purpose of the cladding is for insulation and protection from the external elements’.
He said: ‘We are shocked by what’s happened, our thoughts go out to those affected.
‘We are working with everybody we need to work with to find out what went wrong.’
Earlier today, policing and fire Minister Nick Hurd responded to people’s concerns about the insulation which some claim could act as a ‘chimney’ for the flames to run up the exterior.
He said authorities will ‘seek to identify towers that might have a similar process of refurbishment, run a system of checks so that we can, as quickly as possible, give reassurance to people.’

A bit of gossip: huge amounts of drug dealer cash was there. Also there is 20kg of Gold on the 21st floor, I hope the owners advise the fire service!

This is GREED gone mad. Then, the cheaper the construction, the more unsafe, the more greedy business people are involved. What do lives matter to them? They are creaming money. Imagine the horror of being roasted to death or watching your children suffering the same. Were there landing platforms placed around the building for people to jump???? Were the windows unable to be opened? Does anyone know?

Yes on a deeper level capitalism has a lot to answer for. Time and time again we see corners cut for more profit and greed takes over.

Ultimately this will lead to exploitation of the poorer and less fortunate people. With the Capitalist mindset whichever route you take whether it's someone working 15 hours a day making toys for the masses or as we've seen here, it's all wrong....there are times when I hate this reality...

A very sad disaster indeed, Love and healing energy to all concerned.

As soon as it was classed to be a 'Public inquiry' it became an attempted cover-up in my book. Public means it will be controlled by the Government, and therefore the public will have no real say in the proceedings and will be hushed out of it.

It should be 'Inquiries'. These are faster and the public can get deeply involved plus they would be faster than the Public Inquiry and so not forgotten over long time.

On a paranoid side note:
One thing I would like to know is, was there any body living in those flats that were/are on the 'possible terrorist watch list'?

You don't have to take an article's suggestion regarding a controlled internet in China.
Its true, I've been there and tasted it 1st hand.

The list of websites that aren't available is unbelievable, and then what really gets your attention is when you log into your email accounts and they are already in there surveying your sent messages etc, its truly shocking how blatant they seem to be about this kind of thing.

If this is what May has planned with her controlled web approach, I'm afraid most people would probably only use the internet in a very limited manner, many just to order or buy things.

I've no doubt we would still be discussing things like this shocking incident on a limited internet but our reference points and availability to data that is outside the official narrative maybe greatly reduced.

Back to topic.

Below is an interview with a young man that lives in the area,(I must warn you that he does swear) What he says from 0.40/0.44 onwards is very interesting, there were excluded sections that residents weren't allowed into !

I would like to hear more interviews with local residents that aren't cut midstream by the media, as the true picture seems to different to what is being pushed here. It can be argued that there are different points of view, but things seem to be moving past that point quite quickly, and now with the media's covering up of the gas main that was allegedly fitted along with the possible flammable insulation behind the plastic tiles.

We had a spectacular hi rise fire in Melbourne last year where this cladding was used and authorities immediately demanded the removal of all cladding supplied by the manufacturer on other buildings.. one would have thought warnings on the flammable material used would have gone worldwide to government building inspection bodies, architects, building companies etc etc.

I would like to point out that the three towers that collapsed on the 11th of
Sept 2001 were not anything to do wit "thermite", granted WT7 was rigged to blow
but the twin towers were something else, have you not read "Where did the towers
go" by material scientist Dr Judy wood ??

Two of the main alternate theories are by Richard Gage and Architects for 9/11 truth
and Dr.Judy Wood , there are others like mini nuke , but the official one is still
difficult to believe from start to finish.

The following from Musa Qurishi, a Doctor. It appears that this event is going to have a very big impact:

SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TELL CORBYN THAT THE REVOLUTION IS GOING TO START IN KENSINGTON

We in the NHS struggled valiantly in the #GrenfellTowerFire but we feel like we R continuously fighting a battle to save patients from a Government and a system which doesn't care about their lives. Recent tragic events require us to make a change.

Everybody needs to visit Ground Zero at #GrenfellTower, and pay their respects. Please go this weekend if you can, look at the evening candles burning outside churches with photographs of the missing children, talk to locals, stand in horror before the Tower itself, and take a moment to think about what happened in that building just a few days ago. Take more than a moment.

Today I went to volunteer in St Clement’s Church but instead found myself joining in a spontaneous hugely energetic small demo which marched from the site of the tragedy towards Kensington & Chelsea Town Hall. By the time we reached the Town Hall, it was quite a large demo. Many powerful speakers spoke of their personal loss.

I learned a few things today.

1. I learned that areas of Kensington are very deprived. Walking around Latimer Road tube station, I realised that the council flats there did not fit my conception of Kensington. The juxtaposition of poverty with some of the wealthiest people in the world was striking. I realised within 5 minutes that this was a focus of social friction which could easily flare up.

2. I was told by local residents that there were gas pipes running up the staircase, this caught fire, and the majority of people fleeing down the only staircase perished. I was told that there are not 10 dead, not 17 dead, not 30 dead, but hundreds dead, and their bodies had been seen by the police and firemen. However, the media are not permitted to report the true numbers.

3. I was told that the residents of #GrenfellTower had expressed their concerns re safety on a website but had been threatened with legal action for this. They were mostly refugees and working class, therefore unable to pay a lawyer, and had to back down because of the legal threat.

4. I learned that the local residents are very angry, but I did not see a single act of violence or even injustice. This was not a mob. This was a very wounded pained community of decent working class people who have experienced massive trauma and death, and want answers. They include all ethnicities and all religions, united by their common loss.

5. I learned that this community is fully aware of the scale of the tragedy, and is absolutely determined to call to account those responsible, whether in central or local government or whether in the corporation which managed #GrenfellTower, or whoever that may be. They are highly intelligent, motivated and united in grief and determination. They are aware of Hillsborough and know what is likely coming their way. But their children have died in large numbers and they will not be defeated.

I believe that the terrible tragedy of #GrenfellTower has the potential to reach the national consciousness and remove the Conservatives from power within a month from now. I hope and pray that they will achieve this. We activists from all fields (nurses, doctors, Stop the War, teachers, everyone) need to work with them to call those responsible to account. Our government has been quietly killing NHS patients with austerity for years now (see Oxford University study which showed excess 30,000 deaths due to austerity in 2015), but this act of horror needs to be a wake-up call for all of us. Corporate greed cannot be allowed to burn our children and babies to death.

Hundreds dead, 'off the record' reports from firemen and police says three tents full of body bags, and bodies piled everywhere in block. Of course, identification could take months. If one jumped to avoid fire, it's not classed as a death by fire, but by one's own hand. Therefore 'death by fire' figures would be less than reality... The whole business reeks of 'cover-up'.
Relocations being offered up to hundreds of miles away, if refused, these folk are classed as 'deliberately homeless'.
Prime real estate is becoming more important than lives.

Yes, you are right

One woman I met was in one of the twin towers in NY when hell broke loose. She told me the security personnel on her floor were trying to direct trafic towards the stairs and have people wait their turn. She was so afraid that she pushed her luck and got into the elevator when the door opened, despite the security people, and she finally reached the street floor, it was the last elevator to make it and nobody got out of the stairways from her floor.

When in a fire, get out without tramping others.

I personally always check the exits locations when in hotels or airplanes, and count the number of steps to get there (in case I would be blinded by smoke - or if there were terrorism).

My thought to those who died and their families

The community should mobilise to compile a list of their own - of the missing and confirmed dead. Why not use social media, it may help find some that are still alive but out of touch/in hospital etc.

Someone local should set up an email & facebook page etc.

NUMBERS OF DEAD is, sadly , now becoming politicised.(Mainstream media still playing this down)

Frankie Boyle tells me he believes there’s ‘a connection between a Conservative government that

than fire safety, which he describes as 'deeply immoral'.

We also talked about Theresa May's woeful performance in the 2017 general election but why simply
replacing her with a new 'broken sociopath' is not an adequate solution, why trust in the media is so
low and the modern tendencies for faux outrage and judgmental moralising.

Grenfell Tower disaster parallels in House of Cards, 1993.

The points are made in general, but I found the arguments around social injustice, and the nature of the cause of the tragedy - a gas explosion in a run-down tower block - particularly chilling. Especially uncanny are the details of the degraded state of public housing, and even the specific points that a small fire on the fourth floor began the blaze.

Yet despite being totally engulfed in flames and burning for more than 24 hours, the tower still stands. Must be those three pesky WTC towers were just very unlucky.

the one thing that really sticks out is the entire building complex was filled with Asbestos insulation, it was everywhere.

the cost of the removal of the asbestos was worth more than the buildings or the property could and would ever be.

By all environmental and safely law, and regulations, combined with costs of all kinds that might occur....the property was worth negative $2-3billion. With resale of the given new buildings that would be on it. Best case scenario.

No-one would touch those buildings. No one.

A total black hole that would kill the fortunes of any given billionaire who wold dare to to take on the building complex, even if for free.

This is the part that really needs to be made clear to people, as a starting point in any investigations.

The removal of the asbestos was legally mandated and had to go forward. Inch by inch, room by room, for the entire wtc complex.

Who was going to foot the multi-billion dollar bill cost for it?

Somehow, out of the blue...Silverstein buys the complex... and insures it for billions, right away.

Then, it almost immediately goes down and he gets a payout, and no one has to deal with the incredible amounts of ultra fine asbestos dust ..asbestos dust...that completely engulfs that part of Manhattan. And will eventually be the cause of death for thousands.

win win win. This is how you know it is the hidden hand. They get what they want from a single act/event, and they get it from multiple directions which are all passing through the given single event.

And they got to tighten the screws on American rights and freedoms ushering in a Fascist police state with the "Patriot Act" (which amazingly they wrote and passed into law within weeks of 9/11--nothing suspicious there), Homeland Security Act, Stellar Wind (surveillance of all US citizens), TSA (groping grandmas and children and all the rest of us potential terrorists), toppling the Iraqi government (that wasn't involved at all), and killing millions of Muslims and thousands of our soldiers while sucking more than $3.5 trillion dollars from the taxpayers to grow the ever expanding military industrial complex to support all these wars and conflicts since 9/11.

And whilst the population focuses on this disaster and the likelihood of repeats around the country, the BRITISH Government is advertising it's willingness to go to war with Russia.

And the people are not paying attention.

Israel, the US and UK are warning about further uses of Sarin gas or other biological agent discharges in Syria to accuse Assad of genocide of his own people. And they are the culprits themselves.

The US medical system has been destroyed.
The UK medical system has been destroyed.

Israel is safe. Because it's the Rothschilds jewel.

And its playing out before our very eyes.

War is one of the best distractions for governments with internal difficulties...

Grenfell Tower fire: Judge 'doubt' over inquiry scope

The retired judge heading the inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire says he
is "doubtful" the process will be as wide-ranging as some residents hope.

Sir Martin Moore-Bick said the probe could be limited to the cause, how it
spread, and preventing a future blaze. He was speaking after travelling to
the site of the fire in North Kensington and meeting some of the survivors.

Grenfell Tower: Cladding 'changed to cheaper version'

By Tom Symonds and Daniel De Simone
BBC News

Cladding fitted to Grenfell Tower during its refurbishment was changed
to a cheaper version, documents obtained by the BBC suggest.

Documents show the aluminium cladding was less fire-resistant than zinc,
thereby saving nearly £300,000.

The cladding - fitted as part of the refurbishment of the west London
tower - is thought to have contributed to the fire that killed at least 80 people.

There is no suggestion a deliberate decision was made to cut fire safety.

i wonder what would happen to the building itself?

I expect it will be demolished , whether the land will be used for
more housing or a memorial or both we will have to wait and see.

Grenfell fire: Chairman prepared to hold 'very broad' inquiry

The Grenfell Tower public inquiry chairman is prepared to be "very broad"
when looking at the causes of the fire, a senior source has told the BBC.

Sir Martin Moore-Bick's inquiry will "go right back to the construction of the
tower" in the 1970s to examine warnings that may have been missed.

According to Simon Parkes' sources, it's the same kind of scenario--the buildings were re-insured just before the fire.

Grenfell Tower Victims
Thursday, June 29, 2017
The head of the British metropolitan police force in London has said that no total figures for the dead will be known from the Grenfell Tower fire until the end of the year or possibly after Christmas.
This is nonsense - The government knows broadly how many families were living there.
I have been told in private that the true death toll is in between 300 and 500 !!!
The government fearing a civil revolution has suppressed the true death toll to save its own skin - Shameful and shocking !

Grenfell Tower: Corporate manslaughter considered by police

Police investigating the Grenfell Tower fire say they have "reasonable grounds"
to suspect that corporate manslaughter offences may have been committed.

The council and tenant management organisation which ran the London tower
block have both been told there are grounds to suspect they may have committed
the offence.

It emerged in a letter from the Met Police to residents of the block.

At least 80 people died in the fire in North Kensington on 14 June.
