UFOs the term meaning Unidentified Flying Objects. It is now in some of the publics mind that the so name UFO are linked to aliens by common consent and has unfortunately been hijacked by those trying to prove a point or belief that links UFOs to aliens or visitors from space.
This in turn has lead to the subject matter being tighten by official establishments, either classifying the material and not releasing it or down right denials that any investigation or materials exist with their files. If you look at the position from the establishments point of view, you have to remember that they have to deal with a wider picture rather than limited groups of people, like the so called UFO community. The larger picture means that many do not believe that we have been visited by any other life from outer space which is intelligent, any scientist for example within certain fields wouldn't even acknowledge an interest let alone stick his or her neck out which goes against the common concepts or beliefs unless it can be absolutely proven has fact or fits a mass belief or theories which are excepted.
So where does this get us? If someone is interested in obtaining an official response to a UFO that has been sighted, you will probably get next to nothing if it is recent, due to operational requirements, which could be exploited be any opponent to that particular government or military.
So alternative terms can be used, such has suspicious aviation activity reports, from fusion centres associated with the Department of Homeland Security in the US. Brevity Codes, such has Gopher or Bogey which are aerial activities not conforming to safety requirements and unknown radar contacts. Unidentified aviation/aerial activities or events. NORAD for example uses to term Unknown Tracks for unidentified targets in the air within the North American airspace. There are other terms used also such has remaining unknown which are those that haven't been identified after processing the target and seeking identification.
I am at present seeking such documents using all of the above terms in absence of the term UFO from many different areas, including the Atlantic Warning Areas in use by the Naval Air Systems Command, US Forces in Korea, Sea Test Range off the west coast of the United States, Air Combat Command facilities, and any unauthorised aerial activity attempting to penetrate those facilities, US Marine Corps and numerous others. The term UFO will close doors due to the perception that people associate that term with. It is no wonder the USAF does give anything, it doesn't want the grief this is one reason why the dubious and inaccurate Fact Sheet on UFOs was created to prevent being targeted by self interested parties, some trying to prove a point.
