View Full Version : OWL significance: OBE after sleep paralysis

So far I have experienced Sleep Paralysis several times. However this is natural bodily function, a protection mechanism that causes our physical bodies to be paralyzed during sleep. Usually sleep paralysis sets in when we are not conscious and most persons don’t even know it exists.
Sleep paralysis is mostly known as “terror in the night”, which have been experienced by people across all cultures and for thousands of years. Typical feeling is to be afraid, because you do not know what is happening to your body. Usually to avoid the unpleasant experience; when in the paralyzed state; all you have to do is try to move to find yourself "out", fighting to awake from dream state. As it turns to be impossible you find yourself out of body.
OBE are exactly what they seem: the human consciousness separating from the human body and traveling in a discorporate form in the physical world. Hereby there is a short clip explaining a bit.

My last OBE experience was on the 21st of December 2010. In the moment I left my body I immediately went out of the house. First thing I saw was a big white/gray owl standing on the grass. Next moment I hugged her. Like it was an old friend.
There are a lot of myths around owl. I would like to ask if anyone has encountered same experience.

I know that a lot of abductee's apparently see Owl's.
Whether it is symbolic or the E.T's are using it as a screen memory i couldn't tell you.

Not myself but there is plenty of info regarding Owl's
The owl is sacred to the Greek goddess of learning, Athena and is even depicted on some Greco-Roman currency as a symbol of status, intelligence and of course, wealth.
In ancient Egyptian, Celtic, and Hindu cultures the symbolic meaning of owl revolved around guardianship of the underworlds, and a protection of the dead.
In this light the owl was ruler of the night and seer of souls. A misunderstanding of this necessary relationship gave the owl some negative associations with death.
It should be clear that the owl was honored as the keeper of spirits who had passed from one plane to another. Often myth indicates the owl accompanying a spirit to the underworld - winging it's newly freed soul from the physical world into the realm of spirit.
A quick-list of owl symbolic meanings:
* Wisdom
* Mystery
* Transition
* Messages
* Intelligence
* Mysticism
* Protection
* Secrets
Native Americans associated the meaning of owl with wisdom, foresight, and keeper of sacred knowledge. This may largely be due to the fact that the owl is a great foreteller of weather conditions. Also its ability to see at night is legend among the Native Americans, and this attribute would be invoked during ceremonies when an oracle of secret knowledge was required.
Similarly, West African and Aboriginal Australian cultures viewed the owl as a messenger of secrets, kin to sorcerers, as well as companions to seers, mystics and medicine people.
During medieval times in western and central Europe it was fabled that owls were actually priestesses (witches) and wizards in disguise. To this day the owl is considered a witch's familiar (an animal soul-spirit linked to a spiritual person via a unique, communicative bond).
Probably one of the most bizarre occurrences of owl symbolism can be found at the "Bohemian Club." The Bohemian Club is a rich-man’s organization that holds a two-week "camp" in northern California every year. This strange and secretive group, which has received very little press coverage, has an owl as its central symbol. Each year, approximately 1,500 of America’s most influential CEO’s, government officials (including both former and current Presidents), financiers, industrialists, and media moguls gather to hear speeches, network, and share common agendas. They also perform Druid-like ceremonies before a huge stone owl, complete with robes, fire, incantations, and other rituals.
As Children we were all taught....The Owl is wise...and can see in the dark...food for thought!

No, I've never experienced such a thing but I've read about it in:
"Abduction", by Professor John E. Mack - from accounts of hypnotic regression sessions with his patients.
and
"Majestic", by Whitley Strieber - fiction alledgedly based on the true story of the Roswell case.

Here's a small story I may have shared with a few of you personally.
When I was roughly two years old, I had a brief series of "odd" events. I had strong memories of being taken out of my bedroom, by what I perceived as my stuffed bears, for nearly four or five nights. Clear memories of such events, even though modern child psychology heartily indicates memory doesn't take hold until three years of age.
Fast forward a couple decades. I way nearly asleep one evening, when my cat jumped up to the bed near my face. Now, my cat is all white with a bit of black along is legs and back. All I could see in front of me were his large eyes and white face. At that moment, I "recognized" the entirety of the events that occurred when I was two years old. I "recognized" that the beings taking me from my bedroom weren't stuffed bears, but instead, tall, thin, "white" beings with large eyes.
Might it be that the owl, most commonly associated with a white face region and large eyes, triggers certain memories of past experiences with specific ET beings?

Thank you guys for your replays.
Exactly right. I mean the symbol of owl is everywhere. Thats why I am asking, because quite a lot of people experienced what I did. Owl is venerated and I suspect there is more to the story. What is more, that particular night there was a full Moon, winter solstice and total Lunar eclipse at the same time.
You may probably know that Out of Body Experience is not even close to the dream state. To me it is like parallel world; somehow very close to this one. For instance I could see the my room, stairs,...my house as it is. But when I was outside the house (I went through the doors and walls), it was day bright light (at that point it should have been around 1 to 3 in the morning).
I know that a lot of abductee's apparently see Owl's.

Usually when paralyzed during a sleep you start to panic. Maybe thats why most people think they are abducted. Exactly the same was my impression, so I wanted to escape by all means. As a result I was out of body. I am sure this is just a natural sleep paralysis (as described above, my post #1).
Might it be that the owl, most commonly associated with a white face region and large eyes, triggers certain memories of past experiences with specific ET beings?
Definitely it was an owl (but big one). When I surrounded that owl with my arms and than I laid my face on her back (for a hugh), I could feel the coldness of feathers.

I built an owl nesting box over a year ago. Just this morning, as I was getting firewood, I noticed a Barred Owl finally moved in!
It's still there as I write this. I'm so excited. I can look out my window and see it.
And then on my daily read through Project Avalon I stumble upon this thread. So timely.

An American yogi, Kriyananda, has an interesting theory about sleep paralysis:
He says that the sense of an "evil presence" that often accompanies SP is actually the astral body that has not yet reintegrated with the physical body.
Odd, that we would be terrified by ourselves!

i too have an annual owl that comes every winter in my oak tree,one of my shaman friends told me to put spirit plates out for the owl,i feed him tuna shredded up chicken,ground beef raw and pop corn kernnels,i too have sleep paralysis,it starts with a buzzing in my ear and i can useally see myself laying on the bed,i dont know much on the subject ,however this post has sparked my intrest so i will do research on these sleeping patterns,when i do awake my whole body will jerk,i believe owls are very spiritual creatures,for instance they the powers to be use them at the bohemian grove rituals,so i guess its how we in our own ways interpate the owls meaning.......i think they are beautiful creatures my owl i call him is about 3ft tall and has a huge wing span........thankyou for this post frankol....love,light and abundance...thirdeye.....

I don't have a photo but my grandmother told me that there was a family story about a magic ressurecting red bird (in samoa) that only the chiefs were allowed to eat during a certain annual ritual. then the "white men who came on ships" hunted the creatures to extinction by using a certain method that kept them from being reborn. I wish i had more details on the story as samoan legends are really hard to find.
Owls are very respectable birds, to see one in such a manner i'd take that as a blessing of sorts :)

Owls have big eyes in a white face, so can easily be mistaken for greys if you're half asleep. What's more, owls have their own place in occult lore, since they are nocturnal; witness the tiny owl ("sees all") as a possible symbol of the wisdom of the Illuminati on the U.S. dollar bill.
Back to the 2009 movie "The Fourth Kind" (of Close Encounter).
The film purports to be based on actual events occurring in Nome, Alaska in 2000, in which psychologist Dr. Abigail "Abbey" Tyler uses hypnosis to uncover memories from her patients of alien abduction, and finds evidence suggesting that she may have been abducted as well. The film has two components—dramatization, in which professional actors portray the individuals involved, and video footage purporting to show the actual victims undergoing hypnosis. (At some points in the film, the actual and dramatized footage is presented alongside each other in split-screen.) Throughout the film, Abbey is shown being interviewed on television at some point years after the events of 2000.

I must admit I got taken in by this one. If you haven't seen it, don't mind being scared and have an hour or two to spare, download it from BitTorrent and watch it. I won't give away the details. But if you are left wondering what the real truth is behind it, read this review (http://io9.com/#!5397359).
