Israel: 'State of war' declared after thousands of rockets fired from Gaza Strip(2:15)
Quote:

Thousands of rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel in a surprise attack launched by the Hamas militant group.
Israel says it is in a "state of war" after reports suggested Hamas fighters had entered the country via boat, truck and paraglider.
I can't help thinking of the World Changing Event thread as we are approaching the highlighted dates in October/early November- - - -
All we can do is hope this doesn't lead to dangerous escalation - while everyone's attention is on Ukraine it would be typical if a major military conflict sprang up and spread out from somewhere else - and it wouldn't be surprising if Israel was involved somehow...

Just to share some thoughts as an Israeli:- The news is massively under-reporting this internally and playing this off as as failure of our government, which is a bit ridiculous. Israel has one of the most sophisticated human intelligence networks so I don't see how this wasn't picked up on. On telegram (thanks @Syzmon for sharing) you can see hundreds of Gazans crossing the border with next to no military response. This seems reminiscent of 9/11 with the orders to stand down when the military should have been acting with a much faster response time. I have family living in one of the settlement bordering Gaza and happened to see my Aunt there a few days ago who mentioned that she has seen a large amount of activity nearby that when she reported to the military was told not to worry as it was just Hamas 'training'.
- Videos surfacing that I've seen show tens of soldiers dead and by my rough count 10+ soldiers captured - for Israeli society this is a massive blow to morale.
- The timing of this shouldn't be lost on us - Israel has been in a crisis for the last 6-9 months facing the biggest internal schism since it's formation with polarization between right-left so it isn't too far fetched that TPTB would invite a traumatic event like this bring everyone back in line; let's deal with our security first and getting our troops home and THEN we'll deal with those silly freedoms and basic rights
- With the extreme nationalist government in power, this is the perfect foundation for a mass-casualty event hitting Gaza. Jewish extremists have become more vocal and and belligerent lately knowing they are above the law. Once the sabbath is over in Israel I'm expecting there to be a significant retaliatory incident against the Arab residents of the West Bank... the army/police haven't done much to stop them lately and now will even be less so inclined to do so.

Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
It's now the top news item on Zero Hedge.
https://zerohedge.com/geopolitical/israel-state-war-hamas-after-palestinian-militants-launch-unprecedented-incursion
Israel "In State Of War" with Hamas after Palestinian Militants Launch "Unprecedented" Incursion into Israel
(read more there, as there's a lot to copy and this situation is developing fast)
Here's the summary as currently reported:
- Militant group Hamas launched a sustained barrage of more than 5,000 rockets in a coordinated attack by land, sea and air. According to the NYT, the Hamas assault from Gaza on southern Israel has had few precedents in its complexity and scale, invading several Israeli towns and firing thousands of rockets toward cities as far away as Jerusalem.
- The Israeli military said that at least 2,200 rockets had been fired into Israel by 11 a.m. on Saturday and that armed gunmen had crossed the border fence in several locations along Israel’s perimeter with Gaza, a poor coastal enclave that has been under blockade by Israel and neighboring Egypt for 16 years.
- In addition to land, the militants also crossed into Israel by sea and air, according to the Israeli military. By late morning, at least 22 Israelis had been killed in the surprise attacks from Gaza and hundred more injured according to Israel’s main ambulance service, and Israel had retaliated with massive strikes on Gazan cities, killing at least one Palestinian, according to local reports.
- Palestinian militants infiltrated at least seven Israeli communities and army bases this morning, according to the Israeli military spokesman, Lt. Col. Richard Hecht. He said militants had reached the city of Sderot; the small towns of Kfar Azza, Nahal Oz, Magen, Beeri; the military bases of Reim and Zikim, which are close to towns of the same name; and the militarized border checkpoint at Erez. Fighting was ongoing at or near the at least three of those places, he said.
- Israel's emergency services said 22 people have been killed in the surprise attacks from Gaza and hundred more injured.
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country was now "at war" and that he had convened the heads of the security forces and instructed them to first clear all Israeli villages of Palestinian militants who had entered from Gaza.
- Al Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, said that there was a military operation “in defense of the Aqsa mosque,” the hotly contested holy site in Jerusalem that thousands of Jews have visited in recent weeks, and against the Israeli blockade.
- Israeli hospitals said they had received hundreds of wounded. Soroka Medical Center in the southern city of Beersheba had admitted more than 80 people, with some “in very difficult condition,” a hospital spokeswoman said. The ambulance service, Magen David Adom, issued an urgent call for blood.
- Israel Defense Forces said they were carrying out strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza in response to the attacks on Israel.
- Air-raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem, while explosions were heard in Tel Aviv.
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
What's most unnerving here, from a relatively neutral observation, is how in the heck one of the most vaunted and lauded intelligence agencies on the planet managed to miss this. Or did they allow this to happen?
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
I served in an infantry unit in Gaza for 6 months and 2-3 months in some of the surrounding villages (back when I was much less aware of how the world worked) and even though this was close to 20 years ago, if there was even a suspicion of a terrorist infiltrating the fence multiple units would coverage on the location in a matter of 20 minutes tops to investigate and neutralize the situation. What we have here was what appear to hundreds of fighters infiltrate and take control of 10+ villages and only an hour ago it was announced that 7 battalions were moving in to confront them... close to five hours after this started.
I saw multiple movies of Hamas fighters waltzing around captured army outposts without a care in the world, without any kind of confrontation from Israel... Israel has a very powerful air force and any normal response in a case like this (from Israel or any other army) would be to turn the area where the fence has been infiltrated into a field of death, especially when it is known that the enemy is actively capturing soldiers and civilians. SOP was always to shoot to kill if there was a suspicion of live kidnapping of a solider or civilian as those entail very costly exchanges (Gilad Shalit a solider that was kidnapped for years was released to to the tune of 1k Palestinian prisoners). Now with 10+ solidiers including what appears to be a Brigadier General, Hamas has won the jackpot.
This reeks of a planned invasion from both sides - I fear this will be the equivalent of the Lusitania in WW1 to give an excuse to go in and flatten Gaza. The extremist government has been itching for it and parading the faces of kidnapped victims and smiling pictures of dead soldiers around for a week or two will bring everyone around to support this... so they'll probably get their war at the paltry cost of a few hundred casualties on our side.
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
A report from The Moon of Alabama about 45 minutes ago.
Palestine is Striking Back
October 5 2023:
Over 800 Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa compound during Jewish Sukkot holidayMore than 800 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday morning under the protection of Israeli forces. Rabbis, heads of settlement associations, and far-right university lecturers were among 832 people who forced their way into the religious site compound, a source in the Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem told The New Arab's Arabic sister site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Israeli forces imposed severe restrictions on Muslim worshippers entering Al-Aqsa and those under 60 were prevented from accessing the site.
It comes during the Jewish religious holiday of Sukkot, which started on 29 September and ends on Friday. The holiday has seen thousands of Israeli extremists storm the Al-Aqsa compound, with almost 1,500 entering the site on Monday.
Israeli extremists also continued on Thursday to hold provocative marches both inside Jerusalem's Old City and outside its walls, attacking Palestinians and their property.
They also beat and spat at journalists in a market area near Al-Aqsa, where shops were forced to close for the sixth day in a row.
The Old City is home to Al-Aqsa as well as the Western Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The Al-Aqsa compound is the third holiest site in Islam and the most important Muslim place in Palestine.
October 7 2023:
Escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflictThis morning, the Islamic Jihad group announced the start of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, igniting another local war against Israel. They formally cited regular oppression and attempts on Al-Aqsa as reasons, where local Arab worshippers have been repressed repeatedly (in addition, there have been raids against the Islamic Jihad in Jenin over the past few weeks).
The operation began quite dramatically: a naval landing was carried out in the north of the Gaza Strip, and there are also reports of airborne landings - someone parachuted into rear cities.
...
After three hours of fighting, the group successfully captured a military base in the town of Kerem Shalom: there are enough images on social media of killed IDF servicemen and captured equipment (there are also photos of a burnt "Merkava" tank). This is a huge base on the border with Egypt. To put it mildly, the trophy is very valuable. ▪️As of now, fighting is still ongoing in Netiv HaAsara, Berri, and Sderot. Panic has gripped the population of bordering villages, with footage of people fleeing on foot. The Israel Defense Forces began retaliatory strikes only after 10 in the morning. The Israeli Ministry of Defense has stated outright that Hamas has gone to war with them, and at 10:30, the official start of the Iron Swords counter-terrorism operation was announced.
This is likely to escalate. It is impossible to predict when or how this will end.

Sorry to insert a tiny bit of woo here, but this development seems to ridiculously coincide with my 2017 vision for this time, with signs/markers which I outlined in this post.
This is very serious.

Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
Interesting analysis on a major podcast:
Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
These are provisional claims, but those watching the situation estimate that the real numbers may be a third higher. The Israelis have apparently lost:
- 5 tanks
- 5 helicopters
- 2 heavy infantry fighting vehicles
- 12 armored personnel carriers
- 2 other wheeled armored vehicles
- 10 other wheeled vehicles
- Enough Israeli soldiers captured to be exchanged with every Palestinian prisoner in Israel.

Re: Israel vs Palestine/Lebanon/Iran/Yemen/Syria: a New Middle East War
Here are the positions of Russia and China:
- Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "We call for an immediate ceasefire and a peace plan based on our support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital."
- China recognized Palestine as a country and established diplomatic relations with it in 1988. When Palestinian President Abbas visited China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping in June it was announced that China and Palestine would enter into a strategic partnership. According to a joint statement issued by the two countries (Chinese here, translation here) China firmly supports establishing an independent Palestinian state with "full sovereignty on the basis of the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital".
And both Saudi Arabia and Qatar have expressed interest in solving the problem with a two-state solution.
