German government has announced its intention to intervene in the genocide case South Africa brought against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

“On the 7th of October 2023, there was a great deal of terror in people's lives in Israel. The brutal brutality of Israel fell, it became difficult and lasting. This is the name of Hamas in Israel. Israel will be able to help you with the information you need.

In view of Germany's history and the crime against humanity of the Shoah, the Federal Government sees itself as particularly committed to the Convention against Genocide. This Convention is on other devices, which "don't need" them. We firmly oppose political instrumentalization.

We know that different countries view the Israeli operation in the gas strip differently. This is where the international community is located in Israel and the federal government firmly and expressly rejects the genocide. This accusation has no basis.

The Federal Government supports the International Court of Justice in its work, as it has done for many decades. The Federal Government intends to intervene in the main hearing as a third party.”

Over 1,000 organisations unite in support of South Africa's genocide case against Israel at ICJ

More than 1,000 popular movements, political parties, unions and various organisations worldwide called on countries to endorse South Africa’s genocide case against Israel, Anadolu Agency reports.

“We now urge other countries to reinforce this strongly worded and well-argued complaint by immediately filing a Declaration of Intervention with the ICJ, also called the World Court,” they said in a statement.

The statement expressed grave concerns over Israel’s genocidal actions, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

“Many countries have rightly expressed their horror at the State of Israel’s genocidal actions, war crimes and crimes against humanity being committed against the Palestinians.”

“Israeli Occupying Forces have bombed hospitals, residences, United Nations refugee centres, schools, places of worship and escape routes, killing and injuring tens of thousands of Palestinians since 7 October, 2023. More than half of the dead are women and children,” the statement said.

Citing open declarations from Israeli leaders expressing their intent to permanently displace Palestinians from their own land, the organisations supported South Africa’s contention that these actions fall under the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

“South Africa is correct in charging that, under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Israel’s actions ‘are genocidal in character, as they are committed with the requisite specific intent … to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as a part of the broad Palestinian national, racial and ethnic group.’”

Underlining the urgency of the situation, the statement pointed out that parties to the Genocide Convention are obligated to prevent genocide.

“A Declaration of Intervention filed with the ICJ in support of the South African case against Israel is one way to ensure that all acts of genocide are stopped and those responsible are held accountable.”

The statement concluded by emphasising that Israel’s actions, including killing, injuring, traumatising, and displacing Palestinians, while denying essential resources to an Occupied population, meet the criteria for the crime of genocide.

“If a majority of the world’s nations call for a ceasefire, yet fail to press for prosecution of Israel – what is to stop Israel from ethnically cleansing all Palestinians?”

In a final plea, they urged national governments worldwide to promptly file Declarations of Intervention in support of the South African case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.

Amongst the signatories to the statement are Nahostgruppe Mannheim (Germany), Malcolm X Centre for Self-Determination (US), Islamic Human Rights Commission (UK), Israelis Against Apartheid (Israel), Jordanian Federation of Independent Trade Unions, Mediciana Democratica (Italy), Institute for the Critical Study of Zionism, One Justice (France), South African Jews for a Free Palestine and the International Iraqi Women’s Assembly.

In a historic first, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague, on Thursday, opened its inaugural session on South Africa’s genocide assault against Israel, a development that has garnered widespread support from many nations, echoing global calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, while facing opposition from some countries, including the US and UK.

Representing Israel at the International Court of Justice, Galit Raguan said the high civilian death toll in Gaza is attributed to Hamas. Infrastructure is damaged due to Hamas' bombs and tunnels which cause buildings to collapse, while failing to mention the more than 65,000 tonnes of bombs Israel has dropped on the besieged enclave, many in quick succession.

Israel “failed to disprove” South Africa’s genocide case presented before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), South Africa’s Justice Minister said on Friday, Anadolu Agency reports.
Following Israel’s defence at the World Court, Ronald Lamola, who led the South African delegation, told reporters in The Hague: “State of Israel, today, failed to disprove South Africa as compelling that was presented before the Court.”
“We believe and remain very confident that those facts (are) still in violation of the Genocide Convention,” Lamola said.
Regarding Israel’s claim that South Africa “misunderstood” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reference to the Amelekites (descendants of Amelek) and that the term has nothing to do with “incitement to genocide against the Palestinian people”, he said that such reference cannot be ignored.
“How can you ignore the statement of the Prime Minister’s Amelek reference?” he asked, noting that it was repeated by other Israeli ministers “clearly showing implementation of policy”.
Amelekites are an ancient group of people seen in the Jewish scriptures as persecutors of the Israelites.
The Minister reiterated:

“ No matter what some individual within the group of Palestine and Gaza may have done, and no matter how great the threat to Israeli citizens might be, genocidal attacks on the whole of Gaza … with the intent of destroying them cannot be justified at all”

Lamola also responded to Israel’s accusation calling South Africa’s arguments “confusing and partial”. He said most of its arguments, including humanitarian aid and displacement, were also by the UN.
Ammar Hijazi, the assistant Minister for Multilateral Affairs of the State of Palestine, said that Israel has “not been able to provide any solid arguments on the basis of fact and law”, during its oral arguments.

“ What Israel has provided today are many of the already debunked lies that have been said before”

Hijazi said.

Israel Raises Major Procedural Problem with South Africa Filing, Challenges “Genocidal Intent” by Citing Policies, Relief

It would be better if I were wrong. However, my take, having listened to the Israel presentation at the International Court of Justice hearing on South Africa’s genocide filing, is the court will not approve South Africa’s “request for the indication of provisional measures”.

Remember, this is not a final ruling on the allegation that Israel has been engaging in genocide. This is an expedited initial ruling, analogous to a preliminary injunction in the US. Here, the standard is that the plaintiffs presented a credible-enough factual and legal case regarding conduct that if not halted, could result in serious harm.

Mind you, this not being an Anglosphere court, the procedure and specific standards are different. In the normal course of events, the underlying case still proceeds on its normal (leisurely) timetable, with the alleged perps still perping until a final ruling.

Nevertheless the distressing thing is such a ruling against South Africa’s “request for the indication of provisional measures” would be ballyhooed by Israel and its backers as the court validating Israel’s version of events, that Hamas is a bunch of monsters and everything Israel did was warranted as self defense.

If Israel wins this round by successfully punching holes in the South Africa filing, particularly on procedure, don’t expect to see a lot of fastidious reporting.

If you managed to catch the start of Israel’s oral arguments, it was infuriating if you have been following the debunkings of Israel’s charge of Hamas engaging in wanton savagery during its October 7 raid. Expect Aaron Mate and Max Blumenthal having a field day shredding these recycled and largely debunked claims.

Egypt slams 'baseless' Israeli ICJ claims on Rafah border crossing
Diaa Rashwan, current Chairman of Egypt's State Information Service, categorically denied the allegations and lies made by the Israeli defense team before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in which defendants claimed that Egypt is responsible for preventing the entry of humanitarian and relief aid into the Gaza Strip.

Although Egypt controls its side of the border crossing in Rafah, the country has not denied aid truck entry into the Gaza Strip, but instead, the occupation has imposed a no-entry zone in the area by bombing any unauthorized movement.

Rashwan clarified in a statement on Friday that the "lies" made by "[Israel] are evident in statements made by Israeli officials, led by the Prime Minister, the Defense Minister, and the Energy Minister, who have repeatedly publicly affirmed since the start of the aggression on Gaza that they will not allow aid to enter Gaza, especially fuel, because this is part of the war waged by their state on the Strip."

The Egyptian official explained that "when the occupation state found itself accused with documented evidence of [genocide and war] crimes before the International Court of Justice, it resorted to blaming Egypt in an attempt to escape the likely condemnation."

"Egypt's sovereignty extends only to the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, while the other side in Gaza is subject to the actual authority of the occupation," Rashwan emphasized.

Israeli practices evidence of de facto control

Providing evidence of "Israel's" imposed control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, Rashwan pointed to the consistent action taken by Israeli authorities, in relation to the entry of goods into the Gaza Strip.

In fact, in every instance that aid entered the Gaza Strip, Israeli authorities demanded that aid trucks be transferred from the Rafah crossing to the "Kerem Shalom" crossing located within Israeli-occupied territories, to be thoroughly checked before entering the Gaza Strip.

This is "clearly manifested in the mechanism of aid entry from the Egyptian side to the Kerem Shalom crossing, which connects the Strip to Israeli territories, where it is inspected by the Israeli army before being allowed to enter the Strip," Rashwan highlighted.

He affirmed that "Egypt has announced [countless] times in official statements" that "the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side is open without interruption, demanding the Israeli side not to prevent the flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip and to stop deliberately obstructing or delaying the entry of aid under the pretext of inspection."

Rashwan also noted that several world leaders, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, visited the Rafah crossing from the Egyptian side, and none of them could cross to the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli occupation, which prevented movement in and out of the crossing.

The acronym, which was "born out of Israel's genocidal assort on the Palestinian population in Gaza,” according to the representative, stands for a 'wounded child, no surviving family'.

Many #Palestinian children in Gaza are left all alone without a family due to the brutal Israeli bombing.

Previously, medical professionals in Gaza, Doctors without Borders (MSF), have shared that the number of children without surviving family members arriving for medical care is so high that a new acronym has been established to identify them; “WCNSF”.
