Giant Radio Telescope in China Just Detected Repeating Signals From Across Space
Published 12th September 2019
https://www.sciencealert.com/images/...-tele_1024.jpg
Remember the spectacle of that gigantic telescope unveiled in a mountain-ringed valley in China just a few years ago? Well, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) has now picked up a mysterious space signal known as a fast radio burst.
Fast radio bursts or FRBs are brief but powerful pulses of energy from distant parts of the cosmos. The first one was spotted in 2007, and we're finding more of them all the time.
While astronomers have recently made some exciting progress in tracing FRBs, we just don't know exactly what these signals are, or how they originate. They might be caused by black holes or neutron stars called magnetars, perhaps.

What Are Fast Radio Bursts?
Published 9th September 2019
https://www.seti.org/sites/default/f...?itok=qPHUQ_Oc
Last month, a consortium of five dozen astronomers reported the discovery of eight new bursts that may lead to an answer. The objects were found with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment, or CHIME. This unusual-looking radio telescope, about the size of a football field, consists of four metal mesh cylinders — like skateboard half-pipes — that collect and focus incoming radio waves. CHIME is in a sparsely populated, mountainous region of British Columbia about 30 miles north of the U.S. border.

If The Universe Is Expanding, Then Why Do Galaxies Collide?
Published 11th September 2019
The Universe started in the Big Bang and ever since then space has been expanding - increasing the distance between galaxies ever since. Galaxy mergers are also very common though - so how does this happen if galaxies are always moving apart from each other?

Springtime On Mars: Terraforming The Red Planet
Published 12th September 2019
Colonizing Mars and terraforming it to be a comfortable future home for humanity is quite the challenge. How would we go about it and how close is close enough for our purposes? How would we let life grow on the open surface of Mars and how would we give air and water and potentially even alter its day, year, and gravity?

A World Of Fires
Published 12th September 2019
At any given time, there is a fire burning somewhere on Earth. Join experts Thursday, September 12 at 3 p.m. EDT for a closer look at how fires are part of our changing planet. As the climate warms, it has directly affected the way fires occur, with longer fire seasons and more extreme fires that are harder to suppress. With a fleet of satellites orbiting Earth, NASA has a unique perspective to keep an eye on these fires, the impact they have on ecosystems, and how smoke degrades air quality for local communities and populations downwind from biomass burning.

Michelle Kunimoto | Lifting New Planets From Kepler Noise
Recorded 10th September 2018 & Published 12th September 2019
Lifting New Planets From Kepler Noise by Michelle Kunimoto (University of British Columbia) and Henry Ngo (National Research Council Herzberg)
Light curves from the 4-year Kepler exoplanet hunting mission have been searched for transits by NASA's Kepler team and others, but there are still important discoveries to be made. We have searched the light curves of 400 Kepler Objects of Interest (KOIs) to find transit signals down to signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) ~ 6, which is under the limit of S/N ~ 7.1 that has been commonly adopted as a strict threshold to distinguish between a transit candidate and false alarm. We detect four new and convincing planet candidates ranging in radius from near-Mercury-size to slightly larger than Neptune. We highlight the discovery of KOI-408.05 (period = 637 days; radius = 4.9 R ⊕; incident flux = 0.6 S ⊕), a planet candidate within its host star's Habitable Zone. We dub this planet a "warm Neptune," a likely volatile-rich world that deserves closer inspection. KOI-408.05 joins 21 other confirmed and candidate planets in the current Kepler sample with semimajor axes a > 1.4 au. These discoveries are significant as a demonstration that the S/N threshold for detection used by the Kepler project is open to debate.

Hubblecast 124 Light : Exoplanet K2-18b
Published 11th September 2019
This Hubblecast Light highlights the exciting discovery of the first water detected on a potentially habitable planet. With data from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, water vapour has been detected in the atmosphere of a super-Earth with habitable temperatures by University College Longon (UCL) researchers.
This artist’s impression shows the planet K2-18b, it’s host star and an accompanying planet in this system. K2-18b is now the only super-Earth exoplanet known to host both water and temperatures that could support life.
UCL researchers used archive data from 2016 and 2017 captured by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and developed open-source algorithms to analyse the starlight filtered through K2-18b’s atmosphere. The results revealed the molecular signature of water vapour, also indicating the presence of hydrogen and helium in the planet’s atmosphere.

Tiny dips in star brightnesses reveal 3 exocomets
https://earthsky.org/space/3-exocome...-beta-pictoris
"Astronomers have also detected some exocomets, or comets orbiting faraway stars, too. When you think of it, exocomet detections are an amazing accomplishment! In contrast to planets, which are relatively solid and thousands of miles wide, the nuclei, or cores, of comets are only a few miles wide."
Kepler vs. TESS
https://blog.planethunters.org/2019/...epler-vs-tess/
"TESS will survey the entire sky, looking at 400 times more stars than Kepler did throughout its lifetime. TESS will do this with four identical telescopes, which, combined, observe a 24-degree patch of sky at any one point. Each 27 days, TESS changes direction and looks for planets around a different set of stars in a new ‘sector’."

Grant Cameron's Disclosure Journey
Published 12th September 2019
Grant Cameron has been researching UFOs since 1975, and his ideas about the mystery behind them have transformed over the decades. A few years ago his focus was on what the US Presidents might know, and this abruptly changed after a profound download experience in 2012. He was hit with a deep knowing that consciousness was at the core of the phenomena.
This new avenue of thought has generated some remarkable personal experiences, as well as some unorthodox ideas about what it all might mean—could the entire UFO experience be generated by a oneness of consciousness, where each experiencer is creating their own involvement? Are we participating in a conscious shared event, and is UFO contact a spark of “WOW” that can eventually change how we see reality? This is a fast paced rollercoaster ride of an interview, and a profound message emerges from the dialog.

U.S. Navy Confirms Videos Depict ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena’; Not Cleared For Public Release
https://www.theblackvault.com/docume...-1-731x411.png
Published 12th September 2019
In a series of statements obtained exclusively by The Black Vault, the U.S. Navy confirms three UFO related videos represent what they call “unidentified aerial phenomena” or UAPs. Originally released by the New York Times and To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science (TTSA) beginning in December of 2017, the three videos are commonly referred to as the “FLIR1,” “Gimbal” and “GoFast” (the third being released in March 2018). According to TTSA’s website, the clips represent, “… the first official evidence released by the US government that can be rightfully designated as credible, authentic confirmation that unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) are real.” The Navy’s official position now confirms TTSA’s claims, at least, in part.
“The Navy designates the objects contained in these videos as unidentified aerial phenomena,” said Joseph Gradisher, official spokesperson for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare. When asked why the phrase “UAP” is now utilized by the U.S. Navy, and not “UFO,” Mr. Gradisher added, “The ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena’ terminology is used because it provides the basic descriptor for the sightings/observations of unauthorized/unidentified aircraft/objects that have been observed entering/operating in the airspace of various military-controlled training ranges.”
However, the Navy also asserts that the three videos were never cleared for public release, thus confirming the official stance of the Pentagon originally issued to The Black Vault in May of 2019, and contradicting TTSA’s widespread claims the U.S. government “declassified” the footage for public consumption.
