The Sky To-Nite
Monday, Dec. 16 - Bright Moon between the Twins (all night)

Look low in the eastern sky after dusk on Monday, Dec. 16 to see the bright, waning gibbous moon gleaming just to the right (or celestial southwest) of Gemini’s brightest stars. Golden Pollux and the brighter, whiter double star Castor above it should still be visible against the moon’s glare.
Tuesday, Dec. 17 - Moon Moves toward Mars (all night)

On Tuesday evening, Dec. 17, the bright, 90%-illuminated moon will shine a short distance above (or celestial WNW of) the prominent reddish dot of Mars. The moon and the reddish planet will be close enough to share the view in binoculars (orange circle), which will also show the widely scattered stars of the Beehive Cluster below Mars.
Wednesday, Dec. 18 - Watch Algol Brighten (starting at 6:47 pm EST)

The star Algol in the constellation of Perseus represents the glowing eye of Medusa from Greek mythology. Also designated Beta Persei, it is among the most accessible variable stars for skywatchers. During a ten-hour period that repeats like clockwork every 2 days, 20 hours, and 49 minutes, Algol dims noticeably and re-brightens by about a third.

Views Of Starship Flight 6 From The International Space Station
While orbiting approximately 250 miles above Earth, external cameras aboard the International Space Station captured the sixth test flight of SpaceX’s Starship after liftoff at 4 p.m. CST on Tuesday, Nov. 19. For Artemis III, the first crewed return to the Moon in over 50 years, NASA is working with SpaceX to develop Starship as a lunar lander.

Space Rock | Nina Hagen
German singer Nina Hagen ("The Godmother of Punk") filed a report with UFOINFO.com of a sighting she had in Malibu Beach, California.
Quote:
In 1981, I was four and a half months pregnant with my first child. After dinner with my mom and three friends, everybody went to bed in their own bedrooms. The next thing I remember: I wake up! I go straight toward the window and open the curtain, I don't know why. And there "it" was. A most amazing lightship hovering right in front and about four or five meters above me.
I felt extreme bliss. I had one thought: God, am I happy! I stared into the light of the round shaped craft. The light showed itself in different spectrum-colors. I saw yellow and felt a very intelligent, caring love. Then came green: same delight, but with another kind of loving energy. Then came all the other colors, blue, turquoise, orange, red ... in the end came WHITE.
After that, I could look inside. It looked like a modern office, like a cool little recording studio. There were three people in it. One was a female (don't ask me how or why I knew) and the other two were males. To me, they looked human. They never looked at me, they were busy doing/talking amongst themselves. A most outstanding experience was that the different spectrum-colors all had a different loving energy, beyond words or description.
She wrote a song about it.
She did it her way.

Study Uncovers Secrets of the Nebra Sky Disk
http://www.heritagedaily.com/wp-cont...24/11/sky1.jpg
A new study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, has revealed new insights into the sophisticated techniques used to craft the Nebra Sky Disk.
The Nebra Sky Disk is a 3,600-year-old artefact first discovered in 1999 on the Mittelberg hill near Nebra in Germany. The discovery was made by Henry Westphal and Mario Renner while they were treasure-hunting illegally with a metal detector.
At the time, the pair found the disc alongside two bronze swords, axes, a chisel, and fragments of spiral armbands, which they sold onto a private dealer. The disc was finally recovered during a police-led sting operation, which is now on display in the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
Quote:
In February 2003 CE, they tried selling the disk to an antiquities collector in Switzerland for $400,000. However, the 'collector' was actually working for the Swiss police as part of a 'sting' operation to trap the group, which played out in the basement bar of the Hilton hotel in Basel. The group were subsequently arrested and the disk was recovered..."
The disc features a blue-green patina, adorned with gold inlays representing what is believed to be the oldest known depiction of astronomical phenomena, including the Sun or a full moon, a crescent moon, and star clusters.
Quote:
Many researchers believe it is the oldest known realistic representation of the cosmos yet found, perhaps a kind of astronomical calculational tool to determine planting and harvest times, or used as an advanced astronomical clock.
Archaeologists have associated the disc with the Únětice culture, which emerged at the start of the Central European Bronze Age around 2300 to 1600 BC.
According to a new metallographic study by the State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology Saxony-Anhalt, working in collaboration with OVGU and DeltaSigma Analytics GmbH, the disc was crafted through an intricate process that required ten cycles of heating in a forge to 700°C, forging and then annealing to relax the metal structure.
This was determined using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and microstructural analysis under light microscopy. These studies were accompanied by parallel experimental tests, in which the experienced coppersmith Herbert Bauer, Halle (Saale), made a replica from a cast blank.
"That the investigations continue to produce such fundamental new findings more than 20 years after the Sky Disc was secured not only once again demonstrates the extraordinary character of this find of the century, but also how highly developed the art of metal processing was already in the Early Bronze Age," says State archaeologist Prof. Dr. Harald Meller.

Drone Test Flights Are Being Tested for Flights on Alien Worlds
http://www.universetoday.com/wp-cont...y-580x157.jpeg
We’ve already seen the success of the Ingenuity probe on Mars (above). The first aircraft to fly on another world set off on its maiden voyage in April 2021 and has now completed 72 flights.
Now a team of engineers are taking the idea one step further and investigating ways that drones can be released from satellites in orbit and explore the atmosphere without having to land. The results are positive and suggest this could be a cost effective way to explore alien atmospheres.
NASA engineers are very aware of the benefits of drone technology, and so a team of engineers and researchers from the Armstrong Flight Research Center in California have been taking the idea of small drones one step further. The research was part of the Center Innovation Fund award from 2023 and began as the team developed three atmospheric probe models. The models were all the same, measuring 71 cm from top to bottom, one for visual demonstration, the other two for research and technology readiness.
Their first launch on 1 August didn’t go to plan with a failure in the release mechanism. The team reviewed everything from the lifting aircraft, the release mechanism and even the probe design itself to identify improvements. They were finally able to conduct flights with their new atmospheric probe after it was released from a quad rotor remotely piloted aircraft on 22 October 2024.

The flights were conducted above the Rogers Dry Lake near in California with designs informed by previous NASA instrumentation designed for lifting and transportation. The test flights were aiming to prove the shape of the probe worked. The team now want to release the probe from a higher altitude, ultimately hoping to be able to release it from a satellite in orbit around a planet.

Gemini 6 To Earth | First Song From Space
Quote:
We do have a slight uptick twice a year in the summer and around the holidays. There are a few reasons why people might be paying more attention: they might be off work, they're doing family activities and things they don't normally do, so there are more possibilities for people to encounter things. Then, of course, there's always Santa Claus and the reindeer.
- Ron James (Mutual UFO Network)

Transmission transcription (from NASA):
Wally Schirra Jr.:
"We have an object, looks like a satellite going from north to south, probably in polar orbit. Very low. Looks like he might be going to re-enter soon [...] You just might let me pick up that thing."
Thomas Stafford:
"I see a command module and eight smaller modules in front. The pilot of the command module is wearing a red suit."

This rendition gave the song an enormous jolt in popularity, and it has been ubiquitous in December ever since.
