Sky gives us air to breathe, wind for what wind is good for, rain and snow and sunsets and beautiful mornings, but sometimes it thrashes us.
Storm chaser Hank is gentle and strong. Cares for critters and talks to chasers from all over, drives into dangerous zones. Does a good vid too, with pleasing sound.

John Denver sang the most wonderful song about wind with his breath here on Earth. When I need peace and want to remember the wind, I listen to these words of his:

Andromeda Galaxy via Cassiopeia

If you can withstand the weather (wherever you are), there is a large galaxy up in December that one can spot with the unaided eye under dark skies. Binoculars are better; amateur telescopes can get spectacular views. It’s the closest large spiral galaxy to our Milky Way, located in the direction to the constellation Andromeda. Use the star Schedar in Cassiopeia to find the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). Schedar is Cassiopeia’s brightest star, and it points to another galaxy.

The Making of "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians"
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Martians_1.jpg
In Space-Blazing Color!
In 1964, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians was unleashed upon the world, and bad movies were never the same. The movie is widely considered to be one of the worst ever made. That raises the question, how and why did this movie get made? That's what we'll be looking into as we dive into the development and legacy of this holiday classic.

This movie is in the public domain. Quite entertaining.

Christmas Tree Aurora by Jingyi Zhang

https://apod.nasa.gov
It was December and the sky lit up like a Christmas tree. Shimmering, the vivid green, blue, and purple auroral colors that formed the tree-like apparition were caused by high atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen reacting to a burst of incoming electrons. Collisions caused the orbital electrons of atoms and molecules to jump into excited energy states and emit visible light when returning to their normal state.
The featured image was captured in Djúpivogur, Iceland during the last month of 2023. Our Sun is currently in its most energetic phase of its 11-year cycle, with its high number of active regions and sunspots likely to last into next year. Of course, the Sun has been near solar maximum during this entire year, with its outbursts sometimes resulting in spectacular Earthly auroras.

'Tis a fine story, of a miraculous flight across the Channel, one Christmas Eve long ago.
Don't start listening unless you've got the half hour it will take to hear it all.
Re: Up At The Ranch And Beyond
It's probably kinda silly, but this is a Christmas tradition for me, to watch "The River of Stars", Episode 12 from a 90's short-lived sci-fi series that I liked, Space, Above and Beyond. This version has the quality of the imagery remastered via AI enhancement. It's much better than the 480 version I've been watching for years.
Sharing my tradition ...

After the death of her husband, rocket scientist and occultist Jack Parsons, Cameron became an icon of the Beat scene in Los Angeles. Kenneth Anger cast her as The Scarlet Woman in his underground masterpiece "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome." Many thought her a witch or sorceress. Here is a sampling of her art featuring commentary by her friends, sculptor George Herms as well as directors Kenneth Anger and Curtis Harrington ("The Wormwood Star").

Popeye, Tintin and More Will Enter the Public Domain in the New Year
http://npr.brightspotcdn.com/dims3/d...6121907468.jpg
Jan. 1 marks the dawn of a new era for Popeye and Tintin. It's the day the nonagenarian cartoon characters officially enter the U.S. public domain, along with a treasure trove of other iconic works.
The copyrights of thousands of films, songs and books expire in 2025, making them instantly available for people to use, share and adapt. The list includes classics like Virginia Woolf's book A Room of One's Own, the Fats Waller song Ain't Misbehavin, and the Marx Brothers' first feature film, The Cocoanuts.
The main thing they have in common is their age — under U.S. copyright law, their terms all expire after 95 years. All of the works entering the public domain next year are from 1929, except for sound recordings, which (because they are covered by a different law) come from 1924.
"Copyright's awesome … but the fact that rights eventually expire, that's a good thing, too, because that's the wellspring for creativity," says Jennifer Jenkins, the director of Duke's Center for the Study of the Public Domain.
Once in the public domain, these works become fodder for remakes, spinoffs and other adaptations.
But these artifacts don't only become material for Hollywood directors and authors — they're available for anyone who wants to use them, from artists to high school orchestra directors. In other words, the impact of public domain works extends far beyond the box office and Billboard charts.

Songs include: Arthur Freed's Singin' in the Rain, George Gershwin's An American in Paris, Maurice Ravel's Bolero, Jack Yellen's Happy Days Are Here Again (the campaign song for FDR), Cole Porter's What Is This Thing Called Love? and Tiptoe Through the Tulips (the original 1929 version, not the 1968 Tiny Tim one).
"But if you felt like singing like Tiny Tim for some reason, and you could, you can record your own version of Tiptoe Through the Tulips next year because that song's going to be public domain," says Jenkins.
